    Back in 2021 and early 2022, I rode Amtrak from Roanoke, VA to New Haven, CT to visit my son in the Coast Guard and then from Norfolk, VA to New Haven to ride back down with him when he transferred to VA for electronics school. Both times, I talked with the conductors and they said that' hopefully' Amtrak will extend into Bristol, VA/TN and eventually, maybe on down to Knoxville, TN. That would be nice.

      In 2018 I rode Amtrak from Roanoke all the way to Maricopa, (Phoenix) Arizona and enjoy it. I hope to take another long distance train trip this summer. The plan is for Amtrak to extend one of the Current Roanoke Trains to Christiansburg by 2025. They are studying extending service to the Bristol Area by 2030. But only time will tell if that will happen. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment.

      Happy New Year to you and your family. I hope your son is doing well. I am a 24 1/2 year Coast Guard veteran. I was an Electronics Technician with some great tours of duty including 3 ships. It was a very rewarding career. I wish your son well in his career.

    I live near Washington and have seen MARC cars on the end of freight trains. They were being sent out for repair/upgrade. I have also seen them in videos from western New York near where the work is done. The surprise here is the location. That is not a new car. Maybe they found a cheaper facility.

      Better yet, what does MARC have to do with future AMTRAK service. I've seen AMTRAK test trains several times. If VA was testing for future passenger service, wouldn't they use a VRE car? For whatever reason it was there, I assume NS leases it or rents it or pays mileage, etc.

      Is interesting it's probably getting moved to a shop for repairs
      Was interesting though seeing it on the Norfolk Southern line now Marc mainly runs old B&o track. So if it was a CSX dragging it that could be anything but seeing it on the Thoroughbred it is interesting.

    Is that locomotive in the middle of the train under power and if so what is the term used if it is so ?

    • @SneakinDeacon1
      @SneakinDeacon1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Locomotives in the middle or at the end of the trains are called Distributed Power Unit, that are capable of remote-control operation in conjunction with locomotive units at the front of the Train.. DPUs are placed in the middle or at the rear of heavy trains (such as coal, grain, soda ash and even manifest) to help climb steep grades. Thank for watching and for you question. it's not unusual to see new passenger cars at the rear of the train new jersey transit cars come up to Allentown pa then into new jersey you have to look up who builds Marc cars and then look at the railroad maps sometimes you might see two or three could be daylight or at night and they usually go in the same train symbol

    • @robertadams6606
      @robertadams6606 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Here in Pa. from time to time we see passenger cars headed to Reading & Northern RR. Their trips through the Appalachian Mts. of Northeastern Pa. so they bought Dome cars for their Routes. Occasionally they would be spotted on the rear of Freight trains. They were from Illinois Central with orange & brown in color cars. Usually they would get spotted enroute & we would get word of them through Horseshoe Curve Eastbound & other train watchers.
