It's not super expensive actually. I've seen used system for about $200 on Craigslist. Depends how fancy you want to get with your set up really. You can do a basic 2 pump system with batteries for a couple grand (maybe around $2500) or a very detailed system chromed out with upgraded suspension system for over $10k with batteries and have it super flashy. If you have the time to do it yourself you can build a mild system and install it at home depending on the vehicle. My previous setup was set up for longevity and reliable cruising using mostly stock suspension components.

But that's gonna be a very expensive restoration and build.... stay tuned for that. I've never built cars back to back like this before but you only live once right?
Nice car and definitely done right, its just not my thing with the rear end going up that high, for me some 10 or maybe 12" cylinders are more than enough. Sweet ride none the less, everyone likes their own style, my S10 had 10 inch cylinders and I thought they lifted too high.

@@RahFree My S10 is long sold, i typoed when i said it has 10 inch cyls, I meant it had.. It was way back in the day..1998, when lowriding was huge, I had a 2 pump setup with 10 switches, 4 Exide orbital batteries(same as optima) it was a Prohopper kit, which they are no longer in buisness but they were the best around back then. I built the whole truck myself, took me a year as I did a body off on it. Im a retired auto technician, some day soon here I really want to build a g body just to lowride again for the old skooler in me. Maybe in the next 5 years Ill pick me up a project g body from down south and do it up..well see, all depend on my health and disposable income though. I have alot of good memories and stories with the old car club and us fellas crusin' around in southwest Detroit. Lost of good times!!

@@djkillahead there are a lot of options on the hydraulics, I personally chose Hoppo's for their reputation and customer service, and quality. There's plenty of other places like Black Magic Hydraulics, and a ton of places in CA. Message me on Instagram and I'll send you some links. Pitbull Hydraulics also in KY. The place that did my install was actually another TH-camr, his channel is RJ Tickler. He's in Iowa (recently located to Des Moines from Hartford). Really nice guy. He covers the build on his channel also of my Malibu.
Yes the Blue 63 is mine also. I sold that car and picked up a few more 63's since then. He didn't end up working on the blue one. I brought it back home.

Thanks for watching! Without a car on the trailer I can do it in about 8 hours, but with the car on the trailer, more stops for fuel and traveling slower it does come pretty close to a 10 hour trip. Real nice work!!!! Love that gilding work on the frame. Seen alot on the rear but few around here do the front as elaborate. Maybe a quick scroll here n there but not the full pattern in leaf. Im actually planning to do my 77 Monte myself. I might be one of the last students of a sign painting pinstripe school in Boston lol. Only reason I went there was the Lowrider World. Since kneehigh to a turtle. Which sadly in Boston, that world is slowly disappearing. Cant wait to see that convertible build bro.....

Unfortunately the rear is getting rubbed out from the tire but it looks really good though. Keep me posted on your 77, sounds like it's gonna be real nice when done! @@JL-ti9hb I really like g body cars the Malibu and Cutlass are my favorite G body cars! I was lucky enough when I bought the car or had a fully functional Red's Hydraulics System on it (2 pump). I had to have it. The previous owner was super cool too, I believe it was his second Malibu. Lowriders are coming back man, especially g body's! I'm so glad to have this car back home! Whats the maintenance like owning this after the building of this car? As far as batteries, charging, when to charge batteries, o-ring replacing, and just general maintenance?
Good question, I honestly haven't driven it much. There's been so many other projects going on that I haven't had a chance to really enjoy this like I've wanted to. There's a ton more that I'd like to do to it still. When I do drive it, the batteries will get me about two days worth of use if I'm easy on the switches. It's very easy to go through them in a day on a full charge. No big deal though. I had to do a few things to it but, it's solid, good car to cruise. It's definitely not a daily driver though. Once I get these other projects out of the way, you will see muuuuuuch more of this car.

Hey Andrew! Thanks for watching and for subscribing! Three Hoppos Pumps, 6 batteries, 6 switches. 8" cylinders up front. The rear cylinders are 14-26 inch telescopic cylinders from Black Magic Hydraulics. Along with a full rear suspension with all available upgrades from Black Magic Hydraulics.
Maaaaaaaaaaaan.... that is a huuuuuge ongoing battle lol. I'm torn between the two options... I've never been in a juiced ride with 14's. I personally feel that if the vehicle is a daily driver with no hydraulics or bags 14's would be good for fuel mileage and overall functionality of the vehicle. BUT..... if the vehicle does have juice or bags 14's are still fine... 13's are fine also. I was never really a fan of 13's, I just got used to it over time. I drive on the freeway sometimes and it'd be very nice to have a 14" wheel at those times but, on the street 13's are ok. I'm not sure how you plan on using the vehicle, but I think 13's have such a strong demand due to them being the traditional wheel size for lowriders and how they look on a vehicle. At the end of the day, I prefer a 14" wheel for a vehicle that will be driven a LOT vs a 13" wheel. I have a daily driver that I drive 90% of the time, everything else gets driven in the summer. So, im ok with 13's just for the look and not the functionality. If I lived somewhere warm year round I'd probably have 14's and drive this stuff more frequently. So, I say all of that to say this... I don't mind the ride on the 13's, it'll look good with 13's or 14's... whatever you prefer is the only thing that matters.
@@RahFree i appreciate the detailed response.... yeah it's a never-ending battle lol. i heard somewhere that 14's are the actual "traditional" low-rider size that was used first, but that once people started using 13's it stuck and now everybody usually goes with that and believes that to be the traditional size. (kind of a what came first the chicken or the egg scenario i suppose lol). again i appreciate your response cause i'm stuck between 13s and 14s as far as what to put on this '83 cutlass i just got. leaning more towards 14 cause i do want to be able to cruise on highway somewhat frequently instead of taking the local streets all the time and i'm in Miami so it's warm all year round. even though it wont be my daily i plan to drive it a lot. idk let's see what i end up going with! like you mentioned, i'm not a big fan of 13's either but the more i see them the more i like the look.
Hey man, thanks for watching and showing some love! The cylinders are from Black Magic Hydraulics, I have the 14-26 inch telescopic cylinders. The trailing arms are also from Black Magic Hydraulics with the optional super pivot heim joints. I would highly suggest those trailing arms for a good lock up and three wheel and of course some pivot balls for the cylinders! Those three things and you can do monster 3 wheel!
Hey! Thanks for watching! Im sure there are a lot of people who run these in Cali. They may not look exactly like the ones on my car but there are many shops in CA that will make some (boxed or tubular). The two long chrome bars that you see are trailing arms from Black Magic Hydraulics. The specific name for these are Extended length chrome trailing Arms with Super Pivot joints and bushings. I purchased it as a kit, there are two more shorter arms closer to the body of the car and more centered (upper trailing arms). Black Magic Hydraulics (BMH) has these available for the G body vehicles 1978-1988 (Chevy Malibu, Monte Carlo, El Camino, Buick Regal, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Pontiac Grand Prix, and I'm sure I'm for getting another model. BMH also offers it for the X-frame Impalas and a few more vehicles. I went with their top of the line package in chrome for this build. Stay tuned, I'll be doing a break down video of the parts (prices and where I got them from) in one of the next videos coming up. The only thing I don't like about these bars is that it doesn't allow the car to lay low lile it did with the previous set up. If you check my older videos you'll see how low it layed. Oh ok, yes, that's the lower trailing arms. With them being the extended length they don't mount in the factory location so they have to mount to the frame, it's becoming more popular on the street vehicles but the hoppers have had them for a long time.

Sorry for the late reply, just getting home. The super short answer to that is the spring does travel a little bit on the cylinder in the rear. There's components that keep the spring from dropping all the way down to the axle and also from going all of the way up the cylinder and over it called cups and donuts. I have telescopic cylinders in the rear so it looks kinda weird until you see how it's set up. I'm making a video now showing the components in detail and you can see the set up very well along with the cost of the build for the car, you'll be able to see them in action in that video coming up.

Actually.... those are supposed to move like that when installed in that configuration. Back in the day they were installed differently but due to the components that need to move with the springs also when the car is lifted or lowered it has to be like this. It doesn't take away from the ride quality or safety. I'm installing a new set up in the rear soon and will show a detailed video on why it's like that. Thanks for watching!

It's not super expensive actually. I've seen used system for about $200 on Craigslist. Depends how fancy you want to get with your set up really. You can do a basic 2 pump system with batteries for a couple grand (maybe around $2500) or a very detailed system chromed out with upgraded suspension system for over $10k with batteries and have it super flashy. If you have the time to do it yourself you can build a mild system and install it at home depending on the vehicle. My previous setup was set up for longevity and reliable cruising using mostly stock suspension components.

I was saying I wanted the same exact thing you're talking about now for the Malibu, and after talking to RJ Tickler and looking at my options I kept adding stuff and adding stuff and adding stuff and here we are now lol.... the convertible 63 Impala I picked up is gonna be crazier than this! But that's gonna be a very expensive restoration and build.... stay tuned for that. I've never built cars back to back like this before but you only live once right?
Nice car and definitely done right, its just not my thing with the rear end going up that high, for me some 10 or maybe 12" cylinders are more than enough. Sweet ride none the less, everyone likes their own style, my S10 had 10 inch cylinders and I thought they lifted too high.

@@RahFree My S10 is long sold, i typoed when i said it has 10 inch cyls, I meant it had.. It was way back in the day..1998, when lowriding was huge, I had a 2 pump setup with 10 switches, 4 Exide orbital batteries(same as optima) it was a Prohopper kit, which they are no longer in buisness but they were the best around back then. I built the whole truck myself, took me a year as I did a body off on it. Im a retired auto technician, some day soon here I really want to build a g body just to lowride again for the old skooler in me. Maybe in the next 5 years Ill pick me up a project g body from down south and do it up..well see, all depend on my health and disposable income though. I have alot of good memories and stories with the old car club and us fellas crusin' around in southwest Detroit. Lost of good times!!

@@djkillahead there are a lot of options on the hydraulics, I personally chose Hoppo's for their reputation and customer service, and quality. There's plenty of other places like Black Magic Hydraulics, and a ton of places in CA. Message me on Instagram and I'll send you some links. Pitbull Hydraulics also in KY. The place that did my install was actually another TH-camr, his channel is RJ Tickler. He's in Iowa (recently located to Des Moines from Hartford). Really nice guy. He covers the build on his channel also of my Malibu.

Yes the Blue 63 is mine also. I sold that car and picked up a few more 63's since then. He didn't end up working on the blue one. I brought it back home.

Real nice work!!!! Love that gilding work on the frame. Seen alot on the rear but few around here do the front as elaborate. Maybe a quick scroll here n there but not the full pattern in leaf. Im actually planning to do my 77 Monte myself. I might be one of the last students of a sign painting pinstripe school in Boston lol. Only reason I went there was the Lowrider World. Since kneehigh to a turtle. Which sadly in Boston, that world is slowly disappearing. Cant wait to see that convertible build bro.....

Unfortunately the rear is getting rubbed out from the tire but it looks really good though. Keep me posted on your 77, sounds like it's gonna be real nice when done! @@JL-ti9hb I really like g body cars the Malibu and Cutlass are my favorite G body cars! I was lucky enough when I bought the car or had a fully functional Red's Hydraulics System on it (2 pump). I had to have it. The previous owner was super cool too, I believe it was his second Malibu. Lowriders are coming back man, especially g body's! I'm so glad to have this car back home! Whats the maintenance like owning this after the building of this car? As far as batteries, charging, when to charge batteries, o-ring replacing, and just general maintenance?
Good question, I honestly haven't driven it much. There's been so many other projects going on that I haven't had a chance to really enjoy this like I've wanted to. There's a ton more that I'd like to do to it still. When I do drive it, the batteries will get me about two days worth of use if I'm easy on the switches. It's very easy to go through them in a day on a full charge. No big deal though. I had to do a few things to it but, it's solid, good car to cruise. It's definitely not a daily driver though. Once I get these other projects out of the way, you will see muuuuuuch more of this car.

Hey Andrew! Thanks for watching and for subscribing! Three Hoppos Pumps, 6 batteries, 6 switches. 8" cylinders up front. The rear cylinders are 14-26 inch telescopic cylinders from Black Magic Hydraulics. Along with a full rear suspension with all available upgrades from Black Magic Hydraulics.

@@RahFree i seen people debate between 13s vs 14s frequently. how do you like the ride on the 13s?
Maaaaaaaaaaaan.... that is a huuuuuge ongoing battle lol. I'm torn between the two options... I've never been in a juiced ride with 14's. I personally feel that if the vehicle is a daily driver with no hydraulics or bags 14's would be good for fuel mileage and overall functionality of the vehicle. BUT..... if the vehicle does have juice or bags 14's are still fine... 13's are fine also. I was never really a fan of 13's, I just got used to it over time. I drive on the freeway sometimes and it'd be very nice to have a 14" wheel at those times but, on the street 13's are ok. I'm not sure how you plan on using the vehicle, but I think 13's have such a strong demand due to them being the traditional wheel size for lowriders and how they look on a vehicle. At the end of the day, I prefer a 14" wheel for a vehicle that will be driven a LOT vs a 13" wheel. I have a daily driver that I drive 90% of the time, everything else gets driven in the summer. So, im ok with 13's just for the look and not the functionality. If I lived somewhere warm year round I'd probably have 14's and drive this stuff more frequently. So, I say all of that to say this... I don't mind the ride on the 13's, it'll look good with 13's or 14's... whatever you prefer is the only thing that matters.
@@RahFree i appreciate the detailed response.... yeah it's a never-ending battle lol. i heard somewhere that 14's are the actual "traditional" low-rider size that was used first, but that once people started using 13's it stuck and now everybody usually goes with that and believes that to be the traditional size. (kind of a what came first the chicken or the egg scenario i suppose lol). again i appreciate your response cause i'm stuck between 13s and 14s as far as what to put on this '83 cutlass i just got. leaning more towards 14 cause i do want to be able to cruise on highway somewhat frequently instead of taking the local streets all the time and i'm in Miami so it's warm all year round. even though it wont be my daily i plan to drive it a lot. idk let's see what i end up going with! like you mentioned, i'm not a big fan of 13's either but the more i see them the more i like the look.
just feel like 14s would be better for frequent driving. especially highway.

Hey man, thanks for watching and showing some love! The cylinders are from Black Magic Hydraulics, I have the 14-26 inch telescopic cylinders. The trailing arms are also from Black Magic Hydraulics with the optional super pivot heim joints. I would highly suggest those trailing arms for a good lock up and three wheel and of course some pivot balls for the cylinders! Those three things and you can do monster 3 wheel!

What are the two chrome bars connected to the rear end? Dont see that in California. Is that innovate technology? Stabilizers???
Hey! Thanks for watching! Im sure there are a lot of people who run these in Cali. They may not look exactly like the ones on my car but there are many shops in CA that will make some (boxed or tubular). The two long chrome bars that you see are trailing arms from Black Magic Hydraulics. The specific name for these are Extended length chrome trailing Arms with Super Pivot joints and bushings. I purchased it as a kit, there are two more shorter arms closer to the body of the car and more centered (upper trailing arms). Black Magic Hydraulics (BMH) has these available for the G body vehicles 1978-1988 (Chevy Malibu, Monte Carlo, El Camino, Buick Regal, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Pontiac Grand Prix, and I'm sure I'm for getting another model. BMH also offers it for the X-frame Impalas and a few more vehicles. I went with their top of the line package in chrome for this build. Stay tuned, I'll be doing a break down video of the parts (prices and where I got them from) in one of the next videos coming up. The only thing I don't like about these bars is that it doesn't allow the car to lay low lile it did with the previous set up. If you check my older videos you'll see how low it layed. Oh ok, yes, that's the lower trailing arms. With them being the extended length they don't mount in the factory location so they have to mount to the frame, it's becoming more popular on the street vehicles but the hoppers have had them for a long time.

Hey Michael! Thanks for watching man. It's funny that you ask that.... I need to make some room for some projects and have been thinking of putting this up for sale... if I were to put a number out there is probably let it go for around $20-22k.... I made a quick video of how much it cost, I just posted it. But I'll be making another video shortly with the cost for the full build cause it's not done yet. What was going on with that right rear spring? Love the car! Always wanted a lifted G body
Hey, thanks for watching! Are you talking about when the car was going into the three wheel stance?
@@RahFree yes it looks like the spring just fell to the bottom of the cylinder. Almost like it spun off of the plate.
Sorry for the late reply, just getting home. The super short answer to that is the spring does travel a little bit on the cylinder in the rear. There's components that keep the spring from dropping all the way down to the axle and also from going all of the way up the cylinder and over it called cups and donuts. I have telescopic cylinders in the rear so it looks kinda weird until you see how it's set up. I'm making a video now showing the components in detail and you can see the set up very well along with the cost of the build for the car, you'll be able to see them in action in that video coming up.

Actually.... those are supposed to move like that when installed in that configuration. Back in the day they were installed differently but due to the components that need to move with the springs also when the car is lifted or lowered it has to be like this. It doesn't take away from the ride quality or safety. I'm installing a new set up in the rear soon and will show a detailed video on why it's like that. Thanks for watching!

Good eye Rob!!! You're the first person to mention it. When I picked it up they told me that the previous exhaust wouldn't fit anymore so they left it with open headers. It has an exhaust on it now. Good eye! Thanks for watching!
