It goes back to him choosing ND state to play QB over big names programs that wanted him to play safety or some other position, to barely playing any college ball and still becoming a heavily hyped draft prospect in an incredible QB class that may or may not turn out to be as good as they say, then his turbulent NFL career up until this point and all the QB drama that has accompanied it. If he ends up succeeding it's an inspirational movie like the one they made about Kurt Warner. If he's a bust it's an interesting story about how ridiculous draft hype blows up and the sports news industry runs with things of little substance (like Trey Lance and Zach Wilson if they turn out to be busts), sort of in the spirit of The Big Short, or something like that.
Trey Lance's story is going to be similar to Jordan Love's? "Well we'd love to start you, but see we got someone who plays better"

This was taken from Monday's show, before Kyler's injury. I remember hearing this conversation that day.
People saying he only played 1.75 games, obviously didn’t watch those games and maybe don’t realize who they were playing. That dolphins game was one of the most anticipated games of the year and everybody was saying how the bucs had way too much of a defense for him to repeat what he did in the dolphins games. Not only be he repeat what he did, he surpassed it in such a way where he was sat for the entire fourth quarter because the game was so far out of hand.

Dude's played in 2 games and everyone's annointing him the next Tom Brady/Joe Montana. Yet, analysts be like "He's gotta prove it" when talking about Jalen Hurts -- although Rich Eisen has been fair with Jalen. As for offensive ROY -- both Olave and Garrett Wilson will both be over 1000 yards, already pretty close.

Garrett Wilson is a top 20 WR this season, so Burdy basically needs to get Top 15 maybe Top 10 numbers to justify the RotY hype. 230 yds/g, 10+ TDs, under 5 INTs. Go 5-0

I think it's more likely Shanahan wins coach of the year than Purdy winning ROY. Not enough games played, and even if he wins the division the voters will say Jimmy G did most of the heavy lifting this season.

I feel like the only way Purdy can be rookie of the year is if he has a 350+ yard 3+td game in which he has to carry the team. He could win rookie of the year without a game like that but I think the “system qb” narrative would kill his chances.

Seriously? The kid played like 2 games so far. Beside, you dont need an elite QB to do good with the 49ers offense. When you have a rock solid OL and elite RBs/WRs like the 49ers have, it makes the QB job a lot easier.

Garrett Wilson's offensive rookie of the year numbers are weak compared to Chase's. The Jets get Garrett Wilson the ball as much as Jamarr Chase gets the ball, but Garrett Wilson does far less after the catch. Garrett Wilson scores much less than Chase.
Garrett Wilson 2022: 119 targets. 71 receptions. Catches 59.6% of targets. Averages 0.26 TDs per game. 1 TD every 18 catches
Jamarr Chase 2022: 110 targets. 71 receptions. Catches 64.5% of targets. Averages 0.8 TDs per game. 1 TD every 9 catches.
Chase's numbers to win offensive rookie of the year in 2021: 128 targets. 81 receptions. Catches 63% of targets. Averages 0.76 TDs per game. 1 TD every 6 catches.
Purdy is really poised and he seems to be good. It's a great narrative that Mr. Irrelevant has gained such significance. But SF is successful because CMC is ballin out. Purdy is getting the typical QB appraisal but without CMC the 49ers wouldn't have blown out Tampa, LA or had their sensational win streak. The same goes for Jimmy. Could you see Purdy being successful if he were behind Carolina's or Chicago's O-Line or if he was in the Patriot's offense? 49ers are stacked, have been for years and this might be their year to win it all.
No, He has been a solid player, but this year there have been some amazing rookies, even as a Niners fan, I am going to say morally it wouldn't be right for the players who actually been working their behinds off all year.
