    Saw the comment from Milton Purdy about golfing for 57 years and just thinking he would never be long in golf because he was an old man. I’m 59, been playing for 48 years and have never hit it very long consistently. After using these concepts now for about a month I had the “aha” moment yesterday and pulled my flying right elbow into my side on a 45 with palm up and toe up with a little turn through the ball and started blistering it on the range. Ran to the first tee to play a couple holes and hit my first shot about 275 down the middle and many more “career” shots with all the clubs I used (except putter). THANK YOU MB!!

      Steve O Steve O, well my spectacular results only lasted for the one, exciting evening that I described above. After that I did not get to play golf for about two weeks or get to the range (busy time for work and personal). When I did get back to the range I could not find that “gear” again and have been in search mode again with drives averaging only around 210 now. It is disappointing but I now know it is possible to hit long with the correct technique. I never record my swing and know that is holding me back by my not seeing what I’m actually doing. Resolving to start doing that now.

      @@michaelbroderickAre you still taking emails? The comment I’m replying to, you made 3 years ago, but I did see you post a video on your TH-cam channel a short while ago. The reason I ask is that I’ve been doing a deep dive into Lee Comeaux. I came across him last year, but never had the chance to follow up. Then I was sad to see he took down his TH-cam channel. 😢
      However, when digging around I came across your TH-cam page, and was greatful not only to find some of his videos, but someone who is such an enthusiastic fan and a very capable teacher. This video and the one of the proper use of the right arm are gold to me as far as I’m concerned. Mind you, I know you have lots of videos but these two - and one you did in your kitchen titled “Lee Comeaux Cmotion Spring is coming - feel like they are the most detailed to me. I have saved every video from your channel page that I could find regarding Lee, but if there any others that you think really standout, please let me know (as there are quite a few). If I am rambling, I’m sorry. I’m just a huge fan of your work and have become a Lee Comeaux disciple, and I see you as the most prominent AND understandable authority on his swing.
      So please, any recommendations will be welcomed. I haven’t yet been able to make it to the course (ironically I cover the PGA Tour for a living), but when I do I will make some videos to see if I am performing the swing/motion correctly. If I don’t see the proper results, I’ll know I’m doing something wrong and if I have you to turn to for guidance that would be awesome. Have a great day sir, and thank you for reading this.

    Guys I am 67 years old and I have been playing golf 57 years. I have always hated being a medium length hitter, though I could muscle it out there pretty good when I was young. Having read every golf book and watched every golf video for years and hit a million balls and played a million rounds I was just convinced I could not get any better or longer. I started watching Michael's videos very skeptically weeks ago. My normal FULL swing PW was 100 yards. And I though, well I am just an old man and that is all there is to it. I played today after practicing what Michael teaches in the back yard and on the range. I am SCARED to hit PW from 130 yards because I will go over the green. I have to almost hit a half shot to ONLY hit it 130!!!! I am in awe and so grateful I gave it one last try with a teacher. You should have seen the jaws drop on the first hole when I smoked driver about 260 right down the middle! I kid you not! Michael, I still have one small problem with occasionally hooking the driver, ONLY the driver. I bet you can straighten me out. Thanks from a LONG old guy!

    What people might want to try is doing exactly what michael says except combining the move away from the ball with a shoulder turn. I've been doing this for about a year and at 72 years old, it works pretty well. As michael suggests you "throw" your hands over your right shoulder as your turn away from the ball. If you do this correctly, your shaft points down the target line and your shoulders have turned 90 degrees. It's the classic backswing but you didn't get there the way THEY teach. Once you're at the top you reverse the process but instead of unfolding your right arm toward your left pocket, unforld your right arm (keeping elbow in close) to your right hip as your turn back toward the ball and continue through to a nice balanced finish. Do this entire swing slowly at first and then find your own tempo where you finish on balance. At impact you should find that your hips have cleared as most pros clear their hips. My SWING THOUGHT for this is: ARMS GO UP AND DOWN WHILE BODY TURNS BACK AND THROUGH. Think about that! Your arms don't go.....BACK.....they go UP and then down....and then of course back up again to the finish. You'll know you got it when you feel like you can SLAM the clubhead back down as hard as you want to and still hit the ball first. You will hit pretty straight shots if you don't turn your hands or rotate your forearms. The leading edge of the club stays pretty much parallel with the vertical midline of your body during most of the swing. Do the swing in very slow motion and watch as your turn back toward impact the club face comes from the inside, squares up and impact and then closes as your pass the ball and go to the finish. What kills most golfers is they wind up swinging their arms across and past their body. If you listen to any top notch instructor they recommend your hands stay in front of your body during most of the swing and with what I'm suggesting, they do. Good luck.

    Hi Micheal! Three weeks into it now and is going well, for our friend i think Lee may of said it is more of a lean into the ball with the stance so the weight is on the mid to balls of the feet that seems best for me.
    The other lines of the stance i use is the slightly closed feet line which i find is the best part of the method, and yesterday i squared the back foot more and it helped me even more with a more soild stance into the ball, and also it helped me with clearing of the hips quicker and an easier pivot around for my back foot.
    I still find the interlocking grip best, i think the main part is to lay the club not in the fingers, but more toward the palm so one can push the club through with the right hand and the left hand is more of a guide.
    On the range i can hit longer now, but the beauty of it all is one can just hit soft around the course and go straight nearly all the time and quite long as well, with the few easy movements learnt.
    Once Again, Thanks for all the Help!!

      Paul Lowe, just something to think on regarding the grip. If you go over to Lee's site an look at his 3's and C's video, Lee was doing a great job in trying to steer the other guy into certain responses but not forcing. At around the 18 min mark in the video, the guy he was talking with starts talking about the grip and mentions interlock/overlap stating that he doesn't care as long as its locked in. I found it kind of funny how the guy responded to Lee. Almost as if he kind of ignored what Lee was stating, not once, but twice.
      Lee:"You wont leverage it. You wont leverage it. The club is controlling you then, you dont want that."
      Just something to think on. Why does Lee seem to be pretty emphatic on that point. Was the only time in the video I believe where this stood out to me. Seemed to me to be pretty important.

    • @paullowe1191
      @paullowe1191 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see the point of the baseball grip and it purpose, but i tried it for a few rounds and i could not control my shots that well with it, also i tried the overlap and i found it to be abit to riged for me but i could hit long with it but with not that much control, and then i tried the interlocking and was really good control so helped me alot.
      My wrist are very thin and flexible, also i have small hands their wrists look very thick with large hands, although i do weight training and am a fair build.

      Its all good. Your doing better than me. I never understood the reason for the two handed grip or the "leveraging" until Mikes video Lets Simplify it. For me, I found it harder to do the correct motion when not using the two handed. Each of us do have our individual strengths and weaknesses though. Whats the saying? Play to our strengths?

    • @paullowe1191
      @paullowe1191 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is my only deviation from the c motion swing maybe when i get it down better i will try it again, but still building confidence with it and of course it is much harder on the course while playing with other folk.
      I doubt if i am that good with it yet but lets say it feels i can repeat things with it when my round goes a stray, with the modern swing which i used for years and the Mike Austin swing for 3 years after things often fell a part, plus i ended up with a bad back with modern swing so had to change.
      Anyhow Good Luck!! with your progress.

    Crazy as it sounds, I had been a 3 hdcp in my 50s, but suddenly started struggling with grip and have been L-O-S-T for 4 years now. Lost ALL my feels. Haven't found a pro here locally who wants to talk "grip".
    That simple, simple, SIMPLE board demo was EXACTLY what I needed. It was like someone turned on the lights again! Suddenly the club feels right in my hands, my elbow and right arm feel powerful again (I don't feel like I'm wrestling snakes in my backwing!).

I was talking to a golf mate of 33 yrs yesterday and we both recall crushing the driver before we were competent golfers. We were hockey players so it was basically a slapshot. The shaft just kicks the ball out screaming. It was easy with persimmon woods.

    I'm getting the chills watching this video. For the last 3 weeks I have been setting up at address at such a way that I have to "sit and reach", using knee bend, but basically hitting the ball in a similar manner. It appears that I use my knees more, like Byron Nelson and Moe Norman, and use a separated neutral grip. I've looked at Lee Comeaux videos, and yours, but I should have looked more closely. It might have saved me some time. Using my knees the way I do though, and with a separated grip I don't get a fade...it's a 2-yard draw at most, but the ball goes dead straight usually. The ball is completely past the toe at address too. Since my center of mass moves downward so much, it feels like I'm "hitting it with my butt". That is amazing that we can get to approximately the same thing with different approaches, but valid nonetheless. All I wanted was to simplify my swing so everything was instinctual, especially the sit and reach part (like swinging an axe). The knee bend puts the club more behind you, and helps pull the club down with a larger flat spot at the impact zone. My hips are facing the ball for the most part at impact.
    I'm not trying to take anything away from anybody here. It's just hilarious to me to go through an entire 2 years of experimentation, find "my swing" by accident, and I could have looked at your channel and saved me some frustration. At least I can have some validation that the work I put in was worth it. Good luck on your golf journey.

    when you actually are swinging to hit a ball: do you actually have that much break in the right arm when taking it back? I saw lee's swing and he isn't using that brake?

    @donkeychickenboy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, is it possible to have high club head speed with the elbow and bicep close to the rib cage? Opposed to have them way up and away from the rib cage on the back swing? I noticed that you just fold your right arm up in the back swing and that your elbow and bicep are closer to your rib cage than Lee's. Does longer arms make a difference than shorter arms?

    • @michaelbroderick
      @michaelbroderick  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Charles Doral very high speed is possible. The piston like action and kinetics allow extremely high speed when it counts. Through the ball. The shaft kick also aids the clubhead speed. We both hit drives 300 to 350 on a regular basis yet look effortless. I'm told that all the time. How can you look like your not swinging yet hit so far? It's the sequencing and leverage. Your getting the most out of what's available.

    • @michaelbroderick

      Charles Doral also our body types are quite different but we get similar results. The arm length doesn't matter nor the body type. It's leverage.

    Looks like you're carrying the board through the whole motion. If you push down from the top of the swing the board would just plow down into the ground before you reach the hitting area. Is this the same with the club in your hand? Because Lee says in his video that a lot of golfers like to throw it down from the top of the swing. And the full extension through the ball is tough since a lot of golfers are used to placing the head directly behind the ball and pulling the club into themselves instead of letting the club pull them into the finish. Looks like the fingers are doing the carrying and supporting of the club unit on the way down through the motion. Is this correct? Is this how you have full control of the club? You and Lee look like you are in full control of your swing motion.

    • @paullowe1191
      @paullowe1191 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know with the Mike Austin Swing he said to just throw the club from the top, this is one part i could never time well when i did time it right the ball went a long way though. In this new method i like the push with the right hand from the top part it seems to suit my swing better.
      I think Mike Austin and Mike Dunaway had such great timing in their swings so it worked well for them, but for alot maybe not so easy to do and even more so on the course, for long drive or on the range maybe it could work for distance, because those two could sure hit. I have noticed Joe Miller uses a similar swing for long drive, and with a big over swing and a 50 inch shaft and of course he has the big build and height to help him also.

    • @michaelbroderick
      @michaelbroderick  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Charles Doral we turn first holding hands at shoulder. Watch Lee carefully you'll see it. The turn shallows the club. It's a small turn but very evident if you watch carefully. Proper sequencing.

    @e.g.flores2819 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just don't see any shoulder turn, left arm is all bent and if you do that then you tend to cut across the line on the back swing, the grip seems a little awkward which will not allow for a full extension therefore its a popup, low slice and not enough hit in the impact zone. I will stick to Rotary Golf, i think its the best of all.

      E.G. I have been watching Michael for several weeks and recently decided to try and work with what he is teaching. Having played golf for over 35 years it was difficult to make changes. My golf instructor probably wouldn’t agree with some of what Michael says, but when I see him next he will be amazed at how much straighter I’m hitting the ball and the flight it is taking. I’m still working on getting this more consistent and then I’m hoping to add speed so I can pick up more distance and find the distance I lost since entering my early 70s. You may want to reconsider your decision to give up the Broderick approach. Good luck whatever’s out do and enjoy golf.

      scunningham72 absolutely. All the concepts are the same. The only added thing is Lee has learned to add a small push through contact. He sped up the natural flail. Sync a slight turn to the arm movement, meaning they happen at the exact same time.

    None of this is working for me. I either hit a total slice or pop it straight up in the air. I have spent the last couple weeks watching every video and swinging the club. I finally got to the range today to try it and absolutely nothing worked. Even little chip shots didn't work as good as my normal chip shots do. I'm finding this very frustrating because I want to make it work.

      Steve O you asked to square it with the palm to sky on another video. The palm will square with extention. Grab a board and fold it up exactly as I showed. You see the fence face matches my palm...no? It squared did in not when I folded down to my front left intep? The fence face was right at the target of just slightly open. If you continue to struggle send me a video and I'll assess where you going wrong. Do the drills with the board and even do the triangle knuckle drills and others I show. Really do them. You'll find that the hands must square at the front heel line. Most people never get there hands to that point where the ball hasn't been hit already. They as you most likely are throwing early. You must keep your hands at the shoulder and turn first. Just start turning first! Don't worry its impossible to hold them up and not eventually let them go. Gravity takes care of that. If you do what I've shown you'll see you divots move up and at strike the ball in the middle of your stance....and your hands forward at the moment at the left heel line. That's the way the club is designed and 99 percent of golfers don't use it that way.
      The hands are back and you'll see popup balls, slices and dig ins.
      My divots are 3 to 4 inches in front of a ball. In lessons it's the first thing I correct in someone who sees me. The default to a ball. They don't even attempt to form a divot at the correct spot. There is no ball!!!!! The ball simply gets in the way....

      We've had rain the past few days so I've been watching some of your instruction videos. Michael, are you saying that after we fold up the triangle in the back swing it's just a matter of rotating our shoulders and the arms will unload automatically?

    • @michaelbroderick
      @michaelbroderick  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Tom if you hold your hands up as long as you can you'll feel the arms get heavy. In fact you can't hold them up. So a small turn and hands up as long as you can.
      Also see my Bustos Playlist. A lot of info to help is there.

      Do "the move" slowly, very slowly in front of a mirror. Do it a 10% speed or even less. If you do it correctly....CORRECTLY.....you will see the club face return to where it started and it will be square to the line of flight. Don't do a follow through until you can get that club to return to where it is supposed to be at impact. Hint: Your arms only go up and down. Imagine hammering a nail or throwing sand over your right shoulder. That's one move Don't twist the club or do anything fancy. Arms up and down. Once you have that perfected, incorporate the twisting of the chest back and then through but stop at impact. You will know when you do this correctly. If you still have trouble ....re-read THIS AGAIN until you can do the exercise perfectly. Once you get THIS, go to the range and start VERY SLOWLY hitting balls 10 or 20 yards and work your way to a full swing. Don't make more of THIS than there really is. It's simply two separate movements that you synchronize or coordinate.

    tell me more about why you tee it low and not high.

    • @michaelbroderick
      @michaelbroderick  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thecrunchychip to get the aerodynamics we do. The ball is hit in such a way that we get lift and horizontal spin. Go back and watch Lee's ball flight in videos. It's a low riser as we say. Dead straight or falls one way or the other. It's done by getting under the ball but just in the outside quadrant a dimple or so. To be honest Lee always told us he doesn't do anything they do. The they being what is traditionally taught by anyone else. Once you discover that his methods work so well and are so efficient you'll never look at others. It repeats everyday and you'll learn to play really good golf even at a high level.

      I believe Lee explains it recently in a video on his channel called Azmat part 2. It's similar to kicking a spiral in football. Catch it right it flies long and straight in a corkscrew manner.

    • @skipper1747
      @skipper1747 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the Azmat video Lee tells us he uses a grooved driver to get the maximum horizontal spin. Does this help create lift while teeing up low and swinging downward?

    • @michaelbroderick
      @michaelbroderick  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skip per yes skipper the club head kicks under due to a flexing shaft. In fact all clubs droop. You are spinning it and also hitting it on the underside. The flight starts out low and rises. The first thing that amazes most is how long it stays in the air while being hit so low.

      Hi Michael, I can do this ok with the irons and fairway woods now, they start low and then rise and of course the lofted irons go up more quickly.
      But with the driver if i tee it low i seem to hit the ground most times and it takes of alot of distance off my tee shot, but i agree if the ball goes high to soon it robs one of distance even more so in the wind and my local course we get very high winds nearly all the time.
      Lee mentioned Mike Austin use to hit under the ball with driver which is interesting, also any chance of a video to show more of how do this well and more accurate please.

      Maybe you are leaning back to much and lifting the ball and poping it up that way, i watch my swing in the garage windows to see my moves are correct. With your slice i was getting that sometimes as well, what i do now instead of teeing it on the toe of the club, i get the left arm stretch first then the slight closed stance position, and then place the right hand under more as Micheal states, and swing back like the axe and fire through so no manipulation much involved, i am only using about 60% power untill i get the moves well ingrained in my body, this is totally different to anything i have done before and it seems to be a good idea.
      Good Luck!!

      Steve O Don't get frustrated. It really works. If a ball is popping up make sure you grip it with a strong right hand and a weak left hand. The v's up both forearms. For Driver tee it low. One knuckle height. So roughly an inch and a quarter.

      michael broderick I read this earlier and I went to my basement and weakened my left hand and used a strong right hand grip and ball contact felt much better. Tomorrow I’m playing and will use this grip. Any suggestions on how weak the left hand grip should be?
