The Myth of the Forever Bike

- As my ownership of the Griso hit the eight-year mark. I was starting to think that the Moto Guzzi Griso was going to be a forever bike.
But as we know in life, things change and so do our circumstances.

Shame that the Griso is gone, but agree that the GS is an extremely good bike that can do anything. My R65 is my forever bike, owned it for 25 years, can’t ever imagine my life without it in the garage.
My Darmah is coming up to 17 years that i have owned it. Sadly, 10 of those years it has been off the road.
good friend
Nice bike, nice styling. Love the way it shakes when you start it up and the engine noise as well. Guzzis are just authentic bikes.
Yeah. It is an amazing bike. Was very back and forth putting it up for sale. But the new owner would be riding more than me. The whole Guzzi experience is awesome. From start to the end of the ride, you just smile.
Great video Matty, enjoyed that one.
Thanks mate.
So sad when you finally have to say goodbye, bittersweet and love the flow of this vid Matty x
Thanks. Although it is sad the Griso is gone. It opens up some other fun possibilities.
I compleeeeetely understand. It's never fun letting them go but having to register everything every year and all that does really add up sadly.
I'll miss the Griso, it sounds amazing and is a beautiful bike. But......I get it.
It's why I always try keep my daily bike as something I'm ok with putting miles on, and trading and selling. I'm an overly emotional person when it comes to bikes sometimes so having a bike I REALLY love as a daily, like you with the griso......I'd never let it go.
Great video.
It was tough. I think if I did not buy the GS, the Griso would still be in my garage.
@@RoadsOfOz big, comfy, powerful ADV bikes are hard to beat. I get it.
Love the piano music! 😢
Thank you. It can be found on Epedemic sound. I will see if I can find a link for it.
Sorry to see it go mate, however one way or another you’ve probably made the right decision in relation to being practical and having value in what you ride.
IIt was tough mate. But I am sure practicality may go out the window in the next few weeks.
All you need to do now is sell the GS and get a V100...
The Stelvio would also be tempting.
😢 not the Guzzi
I know. Very rare for people to sell their Guzzi's. I now get why.
Sometimes the head has to trump the heart. All bikes would be great to keep. It will be missed, but not forgotten.
Being a responsible adult sucks. Making decisions due to finances may be a sign of maturity, but (I suspect) that is about to go out the window in the next few months.
I was looking for a grisso last year, hahaha
The other maps are much better than the BMW maps (I will have a video on that soon). But there are other issues I will be talking about in an upcoming video.
I thought my Street Glide Special was my forever bike too but not to be
These things happen mate. With motorcycles, at times our needs evolve and we move on. Sometimes we even come full circle.
The cost of ctp is a big factor...and the biggest scam perpetrated on the motoring public. The cost is based on the type and capacity of the vehicle and the license holders record. How many bikes or cars can anyone drive at one time? The insurance companies have been ripping us off for over 80 years. CTP should be one charge on the operators license.
The argument that ' what happens if you don't have a license is bs. Cyclists don't have a license, neither do pedestrians. Yet those groups dp receive ctp payouts when necessary, as they should. Although cyclists should also contribute to ctp.
Dont get me started on CTP rorts insurance companies have. My personal opnion is that the CTP should be attached to your licence. But there is no way that will ever happen.
Shame to see it go, your channel has shared a lot of memorable moments with it. I used to think my V7 was my forever bike, but it is just a bike, and costs me money and I no longer ride it, so am hoping I can find someone who will enjoy it as much as I have for more than a decade... be 12 years this year if it doesn't sell by October!
Yeah i will have saved about $1500 annually in insurance and rego alone.
12 years. They get harder to sell when you have had them for that long.
@@RoadsOfOz yup, it is worth more to me than it is to others sadly.
I am pretty sure that this wasn't your last Guzzi. How many km did you cover with it? Enjoyed the video. A very relaxed one.
Close to 60000 kilometers. I can see a V100 or an older 1100 sport in my garage one day.
I agree. Great models, both.
Wow I was not expecting the Grizzo to go 😮
I was shook when I saw :O
Neither was I. But I had to take stock of what I had. I am lucky enough to have multiple bikes and felt it was time to have a bit of variation in the garage. The GS changed the whole dynamic of what I needed to keep.
Those Griso's tend to get under your skin. Let us know if down the track you end up regretting it, or wanting another one. But motorcycles are motorcycles and we change them up all the time. I'll be selling my Speed Twin for something else, but will hang onto my Griso for a bit longer. Loved your video's on the Griso.
Thank you. There were plenty of Videos of me on my Griso (my original channel was called GrisoGuy). I am sure at some point I will regret selling my Griso. But cannot see me getting another one.
Sad to see it leave... I would be devastated.... but you have some mighty fine machines in your garage still. Awesome memories to hold though.
Spot on. I have great memories with these bikes. Looking forward to the future memories life/motorcycles has install for me.
Will watch for the future endeavors😀
Found your vid due to TH-cam's algorithm. Maybe it knew that I've been in a funk and thinking about the three bikes in my garage and how it just feels like a lot of mental luggage keeping all three of them. After watching, I feel a little more okay about trying to simplify... but I don't think I'd leave it up to chance for me. Cheers.
Glad you found my vid and hope it helped motivated you. It is always tough selling bikes. It is something that I do not like doing. But I can assure you. Even though the bike is gone. My good memories of my time on it are still with me.
You must have comp ins with one of the big insurers to get to 2.5k! I have 2 guzzis fully insured and serviced below that.
Insurance was about $850 a year for the Griso. The registration was close to the $750 mark (based in Sydney, NSW Australia). It would be a bit cheaper if I lived more rural. Add annual service Approx $500 and a set of tyres every two years ($600-$650) and it all starts to add up.
I wasn't expecting that. Cheers
It has shocked a few people. But these things happen. Hopefully for a good reason.
I haven’t seen your garage that empty ever!! 😂😂😂😂😂
I know. I will have to fix that. 😉😁
It's a expence with one bike let alone with multiples Matt!
It was tough Nev. That bike had been with me for some big events in my life.
I had a 2016 V7 with an 820cc kit, ported heads and a custom 2:1 exhaust among the mods. It was pretty amazing. I can really relate to this video, especially the part where of loading it up on the sale. Hurts a little to think about even to this day.
I hope you have found another bike that brings you the same joy.
@@RoadsOfOz one day! Retired for riding at the moment. Traded in the V7 for a Land Cruiser. But in time, I hope big BMW GS comes my way. Or maybe there will be a more off-road oriented Stelvio one day.
It sounds good.
Thank you.
I know the Rocket is far from a forever bike. I agree. We will update when our needs change. Ideally I'd have at least three bikes. A cruiser, a sports bike and an off road bike. Can't have all of them in one bike.
Especially the cruiser. They are a stand alone bike. The GS can double for off road and sports bike duties. But does not have the same feel as riding with your friends that all have cruisers.
Ce la vie to the Griso
Still sad about selling it. But was not riding it much.
I would love a couple bikes in the shed. My gsx and a Vstrom 800 and then I would be happy. One road bike and a soft off roader. Not going to happen though. My wife will only allow one bike, so the gsx it is. I am just grateful I am allowed one 😎
I really hope that you are joking?
Grateful, whipped... same thing right?
You could always use the shoe argument. What I mean is. You dont wear joggers to a formal event, you need the right shoe for the occaision. Same goes for motorcycles. My deal with my wife is for every $ spent on a motorcycle, an equal amount is to be spent on a holiday. It is a win/win arrangement (except for our bank account).
Now get onto bike sales and buy a cruiser, plenty of R18 at a good price.
They certainly are good value. Although last time I went to look at the transcontinental, I ended up coming home with the GS.
@@RoadsOfOz lol. Hey, I’ve just had my first ride on the 1300GS. My advice is don’t bother test riding one…unless you are prepared to upgrade, sweet Jesus what a bike.
R18 do look good too!
I get it. Sold my XSR900 for similar reasons.
I think you know when it's time.
No bike is forever but I've had my M10 for 8 years
What do you think of the XSR GP?
I can see why you have kept the MT10 for so long. They are a great bike.
@RoadsOfOz I preferred the look of my Velocity moto XSR900 conversion but that didn't scratch the two stroke itch as I really wanted an RD350LC.
The GP has an interesting look. Modern retro (Hippo-Drones channel has one). It's a great triple engine, fun but not for me. Think I now need a more relaxed riding position. The MT10 position is about as much as I can take.
