Ahm..... Excuse me? That's an event comic. Not an Avengers Comic.
It actually is. The Avengers broke up to fight against each other of each side. Example: Tony: Vison, Black Widow, War Machine, Black Panther. Some of the Marvel characters are joining them to fight which some are part of the Avengers

Dipper Fennet NO, civil war was an event. Before calling civil war an avengers story, i would call it a captain America story. Yes, civil war covered the whole 616 for 3-4 issues, but it was more of a captain America story which is why it was adapted and presented as part of the captain America franchise in the mcu. I actually believe the mcu royally screwed up by focusing on modern marvel, the past 20 years, of continuity, instead of starting from the beginning. The source material of the quesada Alonso era, is being used over the 40 years of material that came before, meaning very few stories that involved the characters that died in endgame can be utilized in the future. They have to use the all new all different material from 2014, unless the next phase is a throwaway to focus the next 10 years on the xmen and fantastic four.

Civil War is not an Avengers comic, is a great event of Marvel universe (like World War Hulk, House of M, Secret Invasion or Secret Wars). They had to put Avengers Disassembled, for example.

Uncanny Avengers is a real must read right there.
They should have included another great avengers comic called "The Siege of Asgard" where the real avengers fight the Dark Avengers, an enraged Sentry and the entity known as the Void all in one amazing arc.

I’d recommend the avengers storyline "under siege" from the 80s, it not only has the masters of evil, but it has a great portrayal of Baron zemo.

Civil War is a MARVEL COMICS EVENT not a solo Avengers comic story! Its a fantastic story, but doesnt belong on this list.

avengers vs x-men is one of my favorites. I don't understand how that's not even on this list.

I liked it. But it just wasn't with the line-up I would've gone with. Given that those were the Avengers and X-Men of the mid-later 80;s. But Still. I liked when Magneto tried to erase Cap's mind of any possible mutant prejudice only to learn that Cap dosen't have any prejudice against mutants.
Glad Uncanny Avengers at least got an honorable mention. Other Avengers books I would recommend are Avengers Academy, the first volume of Secret Avengers, Jonathan Hickman's run on Avengers and New Avengers, and Dan Slott's Great Lakes Avengers mini series.

Ultinuc Not really the case with most Superhero comics. Aside from maybe Watchmen and Daredevil.
Will Hush Ultimate Spider-Man is amazing, even if you know just about everything that happens.
Sure you have the basic knowledge of how these stories will end, but it's also fun to see the interactions between characters and everything.

I wouldn't pick Gauntlet. SPOILERS but I mean they all die one after another in lame and embarrassing ways. The only reason the bad guy gets beat is bc of a trick by a powerful space being who is not an Avenger, bc once again, they're all dead. Not their finest hour. But I can't believe your other pick didn't even get an honorable mention.
Honestly I first gauntlet wasn't really an avengers story as much as it was a marvel event.But damn u reminded how good under siege was

Under Siege should definitely of been on this list. One of the greatest Avengers stories of all time and only got a honourable mention... disgraceful.

I was hoping for Fear Itself to be here, it has some really great battles, and the scene with Captain America with Thor's Hammer is so epic.

Go the opposite way and the stories that shouldn't be read. Or do a list of the same type for Spidey, X-men and the F4.
If Uncanny Avengers isn't on the list then I am going to lose it. I would call the Apocalypse Twins/Avenge the Earth Storyline a Marvel Comic you should read before you die. It's deep story telling and dialogue along with action packed battles of an epic scale. Hits you real hard. Touches on subjects of division, harmony, tolerance, discrimination, hardship, trauma, loss, existence, and the like. A powerful piece of literature if there ever was one.
Captain America isn't assassinated until after the Civil War, on his way to being prosecuted or something like that

Pretty sure the Dark Avengers arc is more commonly known as Osbourne's Dark Reign. Could be wrong.
Tsukune Aono its true which leads up to another amazing avengers story arc, "Siege" in which the real avengers fight the Dark Avengers, a crazed up Sentry and the void which is so awesome the story arc.

Under Siege is one of my absolute favourite story arcs, the beating Hercules receives is brutal as is Jarvis'. Lots of action, emotion (Caps horror and sorrow are well depicted.) well worth looking up and reading.
I've had a couple of dark avengers comics and its pretty cool

Just wanted to mention that the X-Men didn't actually participate in the Civil War storyline. Cyclops announced all mutants would remain neutral while Wolverine hunted down Nitro.
The Iron Patriot was the only thing that truly hurt me about Iron Man 3. I thought THIS was the link between Spiderman and it was gonna be a big reveal but nope... just used the name... and broke my heart...
if they ever do this for the justice league, they need to include the tower of babel storyline

The number one choice is a copout isn't a Avengers storyline. but apart from that it's a good list.
A fairly good list with only one or two exceptions. Personally, I would have added Avengers #164-166 where the team have to fight a hyper-powered Count Nefaria. Imagine the Avengers fighting General Zod. This short storyline would make a great MCU movie.
General Zod x 2. Count Neferia is so vasly op it isn't even funny. He takes the powers of the living laser( a guy who would fight Iron man on a based and almost win) and amplifies it by 100. He also is as strong as Hulk and Thor. So ya, pretty op

I thought it was clever how Kurt Busick wrote the Avengers finally beating him, turning him into pure ionic energy and dispersing him across the planet. It'd make a good movie for Phase 4. The Avengers fight Neferia's Masters of Evil for the first half than he sucks up their powers, cue a suped-up version of the final battle from Man of Steel!
Why is Civil War is number one? It's the comic that changes everything. Also, it's crossover event where basically many superheroes and supporting characters appear in the crossover

Nights of Wundagore would probably be on my list, along with Under Siege, Avengers vs. the gods of Olympus (in the aftermath of Under Siege), Blast from the Past (Giant-Size Avengers 2), Super Nefaria (Avengers 164-166), and The Bride of Ultron. I was happy to see Red Zone and The Kree-Skrull War on your list, but The Korvac Saga loses points for me for the change in artists after the first four chapters.

Technically the giant, government controlled Sentinels kept the X-Men neutral in Civil War. That said the only reason it is number one at all is clickbait for the MCU fans. It's a Marvel crossover, not an Avengers story. Dissembled should have been number one, as that is the most important Avengers story of recent times.
Civil War should be part of a Crossovers list, not this one.

Brian Peters That too is a crossover though. Mr Fantastic plays quite a big role in the main story, meanwhile the tie ins linked every other Marvel hero to the main event also. A list of Avengers stories should only feature stories directly related to them.

+Scarlet Cameo Yue I know that book had basically redefined the "Avengers" and had paved the way for their first few steps into the 21st century not to mention it lead to the death of one of the most famous "Avengers" members "Hawkeye" and all of it later on is revealed that "Scarlet Witch" is to blame for his death and the disbandment of the "Avengers."
Umm... If I recall correctly, Iron Man goes to meet with the X-Men, and during that meeting at the X-Mansion, Emma Frost, (apparently their spokeswoman at the time) politely tells him to "Fuck Off". The same goes for Namor, The Inhumans and Dr. Strange. They all stay out of it. (Wolverine is his own decision. He joined Cap with Cable and Bishop. No other X-Men were involved)

...and don't forget the two-parter in Avengers volume 1 issue 225 "The Fall of Avalon" (November 1982) & issue 226 "An Eye for An Eye" (December 1982).
Planet Hulk and World War Hulk is my favorite story arc so far in Marvel.Hulk was always considered to be the most powerful hero in all of Marvel and this story proves this point with Hulk defeating the X-men,the Fantastic Four,the Avengers,the Inhumans and all the rest of Marvel's heroes by himself.This story shows Hulk in his more villanus role but its writen in such way that you understand,even sympathise,the Hulk and even find hes actions somewhat justifiabble.I personaly did not view Hulk as a villan in this story,I viewed him as a tragic victim of missunderstanding and misstreatment,and there is just something about tragic characters that make them so likeabble.
A cool avengers story is when the crossed over with the justice league and it's definitely memorable as hell

Far as I remember, didn't the X-men obstain from participating in either side of the Civil War? Since they were kinda reeling from a numbers loss (been a long time since I read that comic, be gentle). I remember Emma telling Tony to pretty much f-off and leave them alone and they would leave the War alone. Bishop/Cabal were the only ones to particpate correct?

What about the Thanos Imperative storyline where the Avengers team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Sentry to battle Thanos. The comic also introduced the Black Order (Ebony Maw, Cull Obsidian, Proxima Midnight, Corvus Glaive, and Supergiant) Thanos’s minions/followers.
I love how they decide to show footage of movies that we've already seen and cartoons that we don't care about instead of showing the actual art of the book. I'm fine with them showing footage of other stuff, but they only showed THREE PANELS of Breakout! This is a list trying to convince us to read these books, so show us what the books look like!!!
I haven't read the more recent of these Avengers stories, but I have read Civil War. And WatchMojo missed a rather large element in what split the two sides in CW. The people on Iron Man's/the government's side were those heroes who either had public identities or were willing to give up their secret ID's, while the people on Cap's side were largely those who actually had secret identities they were not willing to give up.

You forgot Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars (1984). That one truly brought everyone together and have since technically qualify as an Avenger to stop the Ultimate Threat. I also believe it even inspired events like the 90s Infinity Gauntlet/War Comics, 90s Spider-Man Secret Wars, The Ultimates vs. The Liberators Event, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Avengers EMH Season 2, and MCU Avengers Infinity War and Endgame.
Dark Reign, both Age of Ultron and Rage of Ultron, as well as Fear Itself those were good storylines.

Surprised Avengers: Disassembled didn't make the list. She-Hulk ripping the Vision in half was fucking iconic. And it sets No More Mutants up.

I want the first "Avengers Assemble!!!" to come out of Chris Evans'' mouth at the climax of the Infinity Gauntlet movies, and you just see all the heroes that Marvel's been establishing (Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor, Scarlet Witch, Vision, War Machine, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Spider-Man, Ant Man) all just gearing up for one more hit.

I've read a lot of DC and am trying to give Marvel a go, but it's hard to know what to try when so many lists of Marvel's BEST works keep including Civil War, which I know was considered divisive at best.
Before the MCU existed, X-Men and Spidey were way more popular than the Avengers. Hence, start w/ them.
