  • This is our 7th video in our series on my 2021 Royal Enfield Continental GT or Interceptor 650 Modifications and maintenance. In this video we will show you how to disassemble your Continental GT or Interceptor step by step and then inspect and adjust your valves without having to remove the valve cover gasket. If you end up removing the gasket then you must reseal the half moon part of the gasket with RTV sealant, our method allows the adjustment without having to remove the factory applied sealant.
    The total time required to accomplish this maintenance was 2-2.5 hours from the start of removing the seat to the finish with everything installed and starting up the bike. We hope you enjoy our videos and gain some knowledge and insight into your Enfield and how to mod and maintain it. Thanks again for watching, liking and subscribing.

    REALLY APPRECIATE YOU SHARING THIS VIDEO!
    I completed my first valve adjustment on my '21 GT 650 and would NOT have been able to get the valve cover off of the engine and out of the way without using your method (prop up the ABS module, pull out the airbox vent tube, and unbolt the horns). It still required quite a bit of wiggling, but successfully removed it, and later reinstalled it - once again, having to wiggle to get it back within the space and onto the engine.
    Getting the valve gasket properly seated and mated to both the cover and the engine was almost a nightmare and definitely the worst part about the entire job.
    Thanks again for sharing Royal Enfield content on this side of the globe (North America) - hard to find modification videos in English for our bikes.
    Current mods on my GT 650 (Euro 4):
    - Booster Plug
    - FuelX Lite Autotuner
    - HealTeach GI Pro GPXT Gear Indicator
    - NGK Iridium XL spark plugs
    - NGK Racing Cables (ignition/coil)
    - MK Designs Shorty Tail Kit
    - Metzeler Roadtec tires (140 upgrade on the rear tire)
    - Hitchcock's 16 tooth front sprocket
    - Royal Enfield Premium Rider (Solo) Touring Seat
    - Royal Enfield Solo Seat Cowl
    - Royal Enfield Bar End Mirrors
    - Royal Enfield Black Magic Flyscreen
    - LED Daymaker Headlight
    - LED signals front and rear
    - S&S Slip-on Exhaust
    My GT 650 is originally the Ventura Blue but after watching you change yours from Ice Queen to Mr Clean I ordered a brand new Rocker Red Royal Enfield fuel tank and solo seat cowl.
    Thanks again for all your content and taking the time to provide the information! (sorry for the novel - felt inspired, haha)

    Thanks so much for your clear and detailed explanations. Other videos edit out the valve cover gasket placement procedure. I followed your instructions of placing small dabs of grease at strategic points on both surfaces that are sealed by the gasket and lining the gasket on top of the cylinder head (held in place by the dabs of grease). After positioning the valve cover over the gasket, I did the back first, guiding the gasket into its groove on the valve cover (with the help of a long and thin flathead screwdriver), then did both sides, and the front portion automatically fell in place, with the whole gasket held in place by the small dabs of grease in the groove of the valve cover. I couldn't believe it, to the point that I almost screwed the job checking if it was true that everything was in place (you can feel it when it is, but anyway you have to check). I didn't remove the PCV hose or the horns as some others had had no major problems without removing them, but I was ready to do so if necessary. I also followed someone's advice of rotating the engine so the left-hand side intake valves were open (down) before repositioning the valve cover from the left-hand side.
    Today I received a brand new Glitter and Dust (Chrome with Black Stripe and Gold Pinstripe) gas tank for my Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Mark III (Black) which I will feel confident installing (when I feel like it) thanks to your detailed video about tank replacement. Thanks Again!

    I've watched a few of these tappet adjustment videos and this is by far the best. Too late for me though (I did mine a few weeks ago). It would appear that I'm the only person to have a problem with the rocker-box gasket leaking oil after doing this job. The original gasket had compressed as much as it was going to with the original stand off bolts so I tried to buy another gasket but at $73 I politely told my dealer that I was not interested. Instead I used four M6 SS screws to replace the original rocker box cover screws and turned up 4 special stepped washers with groves to accommodate vitron (high temperature) O-rings (2 for each washer). So I no longer had a use for the 4 Dowty seals and the original 4 O-rings or the original stand off bolts. That allowed me to compress the original rocker box cover seal another mm or so and fixed my oil leak problem. By the time I'd done that 2 new seals had arrived from India for a quarter of the Australian price. I'll use a new seal next time.

    Take the spark plugs out Last and put them back in as soon as you can, that is a vulnerable open hole to the combustion chamber; first rule of most maintenance routines.

    Although its recommended to change the valve cover bolts and the seal washers as well inorder to prevent any seepages or leacks

    • @losttogether4ever
      @losttogether4ever  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you take your time removing the seals you should be able to reuse them with no problem. I've never read that it is recommended to replace the valve cover bolts and seal washers.

      Hi there again ,the pain is over! I managed to fit the gasket and got rocker cover back in place, I found the only way to do it was to very carefully line up gasket on the head, stuck down with a tiny amount of sealer and then even more carefully slide the rocker cover in between the frame above the tappets being careful not to disturb the gasket....the hard bit is lowering the rocker cover down onto the gasket without getting out of line or you'll end up pushing the gasket off into the engine which means starting the whole procedure again. Anyway it's very satisfying when you feel the lip of the gasket pop into the groove of the rocker cover, I think I'm going to have a party now😄..I hope that's of some help to somebody struggling .

    I find it easier just to remove the gasket. Then you can easily seat it correctly off the bike and then just apply some sealant for the half circle. Goes on easily that way and less chance of mis aligning the gasket.

    • @losttogether4ever
      @losttogether4ever  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may be easier to remove the gasket but if it can be done without removing the gasket then you lessen the chance of a leak, I hate leaks so didn't want to disturb the original factory seal.

    • @stevepalmer5670
      @stevepalmer5670 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@losttogether4ever If you glue the gasket to the cover with grease there's no chance of getting a leak, done mine twice that way. What's the point of unbolting the horns then leaving them in the way? remove them completely.

      Thanks for the video.
      I find it less hassle overall to remove the gasket & put it back in to the rocker cover when reinstalling, I remove the old sealant from where the half circle sits & smear thin fresh sealant on. No problems after 4 valve adjustments
