The orchestra was so beautifully playing the work, that all I could think about was "What a dream for a piano virtuoso" to have such a lovely accompaniment. Yes it is a difficult work, and yes he did play his individualistic interpretation beautifully recognized. Thank you all.
For me, this concerto is a musical bridge betwen the lush vocabulary of a romantic near-past and the ambiguities and energies of a looming modern age. It is brilliant at this task and delivers an exotic, mysterious atmosphere redeemed at crucial moments by the 'classic' comforts of Rachmaninoff's beautiful output. It's less to be compared to the first three concerti than to be taken on its own terms. You may want to listen to Arturo Benedetti Michaelangeli's performance of this concerto (also availabe on TH-cam) to hear it in a near-perfect rendering.
For me, the best interpretation of this splendid Rachmaninoff concerto is still that of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. Alexander Sinchuk, here too, makes a beautiful figure. A huge talent, with a very mature musicality. A pianist and exciting interpreter.
oh dear GOD....speechless....why isn't this concerto played in concert halls .... amazing counterpoint...great pianist and orchestra!!! thank you for posting!
As far as piano is concerned, this is an absolutely masterful performance through and through. A few missed notes I caught were absolutely nothing when the range of expression, dynamic control, and timing were taken into account. Artwork, this one is.
You see deeply ashamed of this lamentable error, my eternal distraction is appaling. A very, very great opens before you with your immense talent wich is your and is remain your obligator .so véry thanck
I think Rachmaninoff meant this concerto to be a "response" to Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, but if falls short. His previous piano concertos are monumental though.
I encourage you to watch Tonebase’s video on this concerto so you can understand its context and appreciate its conception more. Listen again. There’s something there. This is a masterpiece in every way!
Excellent piano playing. The middle movement stands out the rest is not memorable as a composition. Shostakovich’s 2nd Concerto has passages that are similar (higher register).
What a beautiful hall. The majestic design behind the orchestra is stunning. Good sounding as well.
THANK YOU🎶

Not enough 'Attaca' for me in the opening bars of the 1st movement but otherwise very good. IMHO of course.
"Attaca"??!! You mean " attacco" (aht-tahk'koh) I presume...@@nickhickson8738

I agree. I don't feel much when I listen to this. HIs 2nd and 3rd, on the other hand, are among the greatest works ever composed.

One of the most majestic concertos ever created!🎉
The original version is so much more expensive melodic, dynamic. There is a recording here on YT.
the opening has the best bit cut - thi sis sadly not the original version

I very much disagree. The beginning is stunning as well.
