I have been playing guitar for years, I suck, but now I know how to set up my guitar so I suck less because of you , Dude you Rock I have learned so much. Thank you Sir.
That's a Great Guitar on the Cheap. Quality Pickups, Controls, Bridge, and Tuners. A little patience and effort, you got something worth gigging with. Last year I bought a Squier Paranormal Offset Telecaster, Brand New under $335. It's a Jazzmaster Body with a Tele Neck. I love Jazzmaster Guitars. My folks bought me a Brand New 1966 Jazzmaster when I was 15 (yeah..I'm a old coot). I still have it, and play it. Anyway, I love this Squier. Neck is Maple with a Maple Cap, no Skunk Stripe. Feels good. What I didn't like was the Tuners, and the Neck Pickup. Bridge was OK. I installed Gotoh Vintage Locking Tuners and Tex-Mex Pickups. Big difference! This guitar can go from Country Twang to Rock to Jazz no Problem. I'll probably replace the control panel at some point. I did ground the cavities with copper foil. Nice showing the people what you can do with just a little cheddar!😉
Once I've gotten the hardware lined up, I always use masking tape to hold the part in place while drilling holes. That way you don't have to keep lining up the punch marks.
I have a Mexican tele from 2003. Cost $350 back then, with inflation about $1000, today. It only has 21 frets. So, I am done with my tele collection. This hand built sounds just as good or better. Great vid. Happy Thanks Giving!
Out of all the Fender pickups I like the TexMex pickups the best. They're a little warmer sounding and a little less harsh to my ears. I think it sounds good man. \m/
Solid player by anyone's standards. Would be interesting to see how the Monoprice Retro Classic TL as stock sounds next in a comparison ? Since both guitars are completely assembled, they could be acoustically compared & then compared plugged in. The $ 80 vs $ 350 Tele Shootout short video ? Didn't look like the strings needed trees, maybe just the camera angle but the strings were dead straight from nut slots to tuning pegs. Scary how good random parts from eBay aligned. That's not a Player MiM, or even a Custom Shop guitar of sub-assemblies built by a Masterbuilder at Fender in the same factory/shop. A lot of if too was your drilling and alignment too. But the headstock was predrilled for tuners. This Tele appears to be a random pull of eBay parts as a partscaster. Exactly what Leo Fender intended.
Happy Thanksgiving. You've just inspired me to do another $350 build. My last build (what I play now) is a hardtail strat body, routed for humbuckers, a maple tele neck with bone nut and fender lockers. Threw some humbucker sized P90s in a pearloid pick guard. 1 Meg audio taper pots with chrome and Mother of toilet seat knobs that look special with abalone dot markers and surf green body. It's strung through body with very palm friendly bridge with 6 brass sadles. It's a total hot rod. But I think I can do better. Love your channel man.
I just built during Hurricane Ophelia the almost identical partscaster. I had ordered the Fender Tex-Mex pickups and think they were terrible (returned). Neck was 7.6 K not listed 5.8K and sounded dead. Very cheap plastic with no insulating tape around coil wire which was in contact with the chrome cover. The bridge pickup was cheap plastic with no metal base plate at 7.6K and no sparkle in sound. Bought on Amazon as new, but they had to be rejects or seconds if Fender sells such. I went with Guitar Madness 62'z Strat 50mm 5.6K for Neck and Tele A5 Standard Bridge 7.1K pickups. Other parts are similar to your build with the Kingdomuk pre-wired Control Plate with series push-pull to make it a 4-way selection, But used JinHo 19:1 Locking Tuners. I custom finished the body my ebony stain, clear urethane, boiled linseed oil, odorless turpentine. It weighs 6 lbs and is the best sounding of my 5 telecasters and it cost me $214 in parts. I am switching to these GM Strat Neck pickup in my new builds to get sound close to the Bill Lawrence T-1 Neck pickups that I can't obtain anymore.
Man, I love your channel. This was a great show and I’m just starting to build guitars from kits and your channel has been so helpful and teaching what it takes to build a guitar. Thanks.
The Tex Mex-bridge pickup probably doesn't have a base plate, because it is slightly overwound and rather dark sounding. If it came with a base plate it would take away even more high range and make it sound muddy.
Happy Thanksgiving. That is a fantastic build! You deserve that one, friend. It is a keeper. Tell that sweet purdy wife I said so. You neeeeeed that one. Perfect guitar to play while singin'/ frontin' a band. No one gets it. Don't make me whup someone and take it away from 'em and bring it back home to ya.
Have you tried using parts from a Solo Guitar kit and guitarfetish parts to build a deluxe Telecaster with noiseless pickups minus the S1 switching. It can be done for less than $500 which is not bad considering that a deluxe or an ultra will cost about $2500. It can also be done with a Stratocaster.
Hey Sean, cool video. You probably already know about hinge bits (spring loaded self centering drill bits). They would help you center your holes. Love the channel man.
For "the most part", only 2 things matter to me, the neck, and the pickups. Even cheap tuners usually work well enough. But to me, it the neck and the pickups.
Dude. You've got to watch Trogleys show tonight. He has this pristine 76 explorer that is amazing. Brand new still in the Norlyn box. Love your show man.
I recommend a centering punch to insure the punch doesn't move because of alternating hard/soft spots in the wood.....I resisted buying one for years but the first time I used it I knew I had screwed up not getting one sooner. Sometimes even old guys like me can learn something new...lol....I enjoy your channel
Sean, one of us must be psychic. Here I am, having just received the neck for my first partscaster build. I was wondering how to drill proper holes in the neck and body, which are no more pre-drilled than yours. Then, here you do the procedure on video! Thank you! A question: Would you recommend a drill press for someone not skilled in using a hand drill?
I used a hand drill because I don't have a press , but I've been a carpenter for over 30 years so I have a pretty good eye. It came out pretty decent for my first build...
Sean I have learned so much watching you and I would be willing to bet that you also could do a video of taking a hard shell case, removing the material, in adding some foam to the shape of the guitar, then adding the material back for a perfect fitting guitar. The custom fit cases are too expensive for me
Hey Shaun did the wenge neck cause any neck dive or seem heavier than an average neck? I’ve wanted to use a wenge neck on some builds but have been cautious because I’ve heard other builders complain of the weight. Thanks
I’ve picked up a lot of tips from you, here’s one in return: get yourself a spring loaded punch to mark your holes. Fast, one handed, don’t have to keep resetting the piece.
I approve of that output jack plate. I never understood the appeal of the socket mounted jacks. They make tightening the output jack in case it gets lose a nightmare. But hey, Leo Fender did it like that in the 50's, and apparently Leo got EVERYTHING right the 1st time. Anything else ever since is HERESY!
I did my searches. I'm a lefty. For me, telecaster parts would add up to around $480 dollars. For $500 bucks, I can find a decent tele out there, especially a used one.
Yes with name brand Fender pups,Grover tuners etc, gonna add up fast. The most $ I ever put into modding a guitar is about $120. Real tusq nut , cheap pots, Wilkinson tuners $30, good set of cheaper pups $30, pickguard, knobs, pup covers etc. I agree tho, I wouldn't spend alot on modding a budget guitar, I'd spend more for a Squier or Fender etc ✌️🎸
Great video as usual. I really like your sound and style. Reminds me of a country slash rock sound. I'm a complete novice trying to learn to play. I currently have a Donner gibson style HH. I'm looking at a classic vibe 60s stratocaster. I thinking of putting Seymour Duncans pickups in it. Possibly humbucker, single, single or two humbuckers and use split coil pots 500k. I like the stratocaster sound, but not sure if those pickups would change it too much. I would definitely appreciate your advice.
My main guitar has a Wenge neck, and I think it is my favorite neck of all time! I've been playing for 30 years, man. That raw wood feeling of the Wenge is amazing. Fender would charge $2,000 for what you just built. LOL
Sounds great, Happy Thanksgiving, Oh man, than you very much for this one, never played or owned a tele, I just wish my country would not have all the additional inflation fees, for that price, here you pay additional $7.50 per pound + 12% taxes+15% Musical instrument accessories or parts. so lets say $350+14 pounds all parts in its shipping boxes $105+12% $42+15% $52.5=$549.50 Used market, not purchasing (choosing) it new, you can find a squier affinity used between $200 and $300, a standard $250 to $400, no Classic Vibe, and any Fender (US, Mex) between $800 to $2000. Cheers.
Rather, install a Hipshot B bender and two Bigsby palm pedals. Sounds more like a steel guitar and no routing required. They can be removed with no marks or scars.
I wish I had found a channel like this in 1963 when I was fighting a Truetone vanguard single pickup guitar that was almost unplayable. I’d play it until my fingers did bleed. 🤦♂️
Hey, Sean. Just curious, just caught your video a friend of mine had turned me on and I was wondering. Do you sell any of these telecasters? Sounds really cool. What you and your wife do. I forgot about all the guitars. But a friend of mine. I had a custom telecaster made. Add a home bucker and the back. The bridge. But it was run on a 9 V battery. But one of the best guitars I've ever had in a friend of mine. I had been playing with for years in and out of bands with him but anyhow, he asked me if he could borrow it would to go play One Night and I and I didn't hear from him for a couple of days. So I got the wondering. Maybe something was wrong, long story short. He moved out of Florida and took my guitar with him. But that was an american tele so if you do have teles send me a link. Thanks sean
In my opinion that's best sounding guitar I've watched you demo but the fat necks is a definitely no lol I just sold a beutifull woodgrain tele with the ash tray that I should of just changed the neck on im still kicking myself for selling it thanks for another great video 👍
Hey Sean, how you doing man hope everyone and everybody’s doing well. I got a quick question for you now I don’t know nothing either I’m just gonna throw on this one buyer, but could it be that the reason that they put such a short ground wire on that lipstick pick up is because maybe they’re thinking that you can just go ahead and stick it right to the body instead of having to drill it right to under the bridge I mean theoretically they would both still work with me if you were. Attach that ground to the body inside the control plate, who says that you can’t do that? Peace out brother!
I have three dope strats.got one under 200. One for free saved from the trash compactor. And a 40$ thrift pickup. All squires. I’m telling ya. Options all around yall.
Sweet Sean, I’ve built two Tele’s myself and I’m convinced you can build a super Tele for 300-500 that is as good as a Fender, not that I don’t own 3 Fender USA Tele’s 😂😂😂. Just sayin 😎
That is my perfect Johnny Greemwood clone project. Yeah, my son turned me on to Radiohead a few months back. Sounds awesome. And as we know, all the best picker's play tele's.

Happy Thanksgiving Sean and Cathy .🙏🦃
Hey Shaun did the wenge neck cause any neck dive or seem heavier than an average neck? I’ve wanted to use a wenge neck on some builds but have been cautious because I’ve heard other builders complain of the weight. Thanks
Actually it evened the weight of the fairly heavy 4.8lb body out nicely
Nice build. Love a nice sounding Tele.
Happy Thanksgiving! Sean! Great work!
Your the man Sean, that Tele sounds great.
Sean, have you ever used inserts in the neck and bolted a neck on? I'm guessing if you don't use it, it ain't worth it. 😊 happy Thanksgiving
Do I need like a 200 watt wood burners type
I’ve picked up a lot of tips from you, here’s one in return: get yourself a spring loaded punch to mark your holes. Fast, one handed, don’t have to keep resetting the piece.
That , or just use some green masking tape to hold the peice until it's marked lol
Love the colour and the grain of that neck and fretboard 👌👍
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Hand built Hot Rodded Telecaster sounds GREAT!!!
Unreal!!!! Can't tell that it wasn't made in a Fender Shop!!!! You did it again Sean !!!! 350 instead of a 1000 Dollars!!!!

sounds great! Happy Thanksgiving!
Yes thanks for all the valuable information that you share.
Sean , you need a Vix bit . Self centering drill .

a bit of blue tape and clamps would have helped and make those holes easier jejeje
