I like this is in stark contrast with almost every major character in modern medical shows that act like a cowboy and have sex on the job while somehow not getting fired.
People keep thinking it was about the sex in the ambulance. It wasn't. It was about all the other times he broke the rules and was disrespectful about it. It was that Dave was a bad doctor and didn't seem to care.
He just made her feel very good about her decision. If he was humble, apologetic, and accepted his firing with grace, Weaver might’ve ended up feeling guilty over her decision and go on to hire him back.
Nah.... Weaver is too ambitious to take that risk. She's good doctor, but her career always come first of almost EVERYTHING, and in that Malucci, for all his fault, is right.
Exactly the reason the day I was fired, I kept a smile on my face, handed over my badge, shook my bosses hand, and was on my way. Sometimes a position isn’t meant for you. Sometimes you make a mistake that’s so damaging to the operations of a company that they have no other alternative. Sometimes you have an asshole boss that just has it out for you. There is ALWAYS the chance you may work with some of those people again. One of those people may one day be your coworker or boss at a different job. As long as you keep yourself calm and don’t freak out, you can come out on top after being fired.
Don't think most people would even find sex at work appealing.... to be real. That makes him a bit outrageous and that made her blood boil . When he called her a Nazi Dyke... he showed his true colors and how he really felt about her.
When this episode first aired, I had the feeling from the look on Kerry’s face if Malucci had just left it at that he’s got a kid she might’ve changed her mind but of course that was impossible for him. Of course, that’s if Eric Palladino hadn’t tried to pull a power move for more money which from what I’ve always understood was what happened behind the scenes on the show
I always side with Greene over Weaver because of how Weaver stabbed him in the back in that meeting about hiring Romano. Both great doctors, but Mark just wanted to treat patients and be a good dr while Weaver was a snake politician. Mark was much better with people and the kind of boss everyone likes and respects.
Exactly, thank you. Weaver may have been a good doctor, but people forget her character was a sneaky, hypocritical, backstabbing bitch whenever it suited her. Which makes me wonder if her crippled leg wasn't the result of someone running her down with their car or something.
This i can sort of understand, but still procedure should be followed. However, I hated Kerry for firing Doug Ross. Yes, he got drunk on his days off, yes he had inappropriate relationships. But at work he worked and he did a great job out of it. Saved a kid from drowning in a literal pipe. Saved a lot of other people. Got fired for saving a kid from a methadon-stealing mom. He went to Seattle and kept working and stayed in the field, apparently.
Doug resigned and went to Seattle. I’m sure that he would’ve been fired if he hadn’t quit on his own, though. But come on, he deserved it. He constantly violated policies and laws. The difference between Doug and Malucci was that Doug was actually a great doctor with a wonderful bedside manner and was generally respected by the staff.
The ambulance bay and ER entrance here is in a cul-de-sac. Meaning that Malucci and the paramedic he's banging are literally blocking incoming emergencies for leisure purposes. Come to think of it, I never seen an ambulance bay placed at a cul-de-sac. What happens where there are multiple incomings?
0:45, who else felt bad for Mark at that moment. Trying to deal with his 13 year old daughter who ran to Chicago from Seattle, and also having to be the mediator between the chief and and a resident.
Mark was a good diplomat. The only thing he wasn’t good at was administration, and that’s just cause he hated it. Him and Weaver make a great team but for the fact that Weaver was a backstabber and destroyed his career twice.
Kinda felt like a disservice to the character, he should have been fired for a more serious reason (even if I think that is no time and place for a medical professional to be acting like that).
When Kerri said "I know you're fired" I lost it. Lol. She always had a way of rubbing people the wrong way and she got a taste of that with Malucci even though he was a jerk, immature, and inappropriate.

Playing devil's advocate, Malucci wasn't a bad person or doctor for the most part. He had his good moments. Examples like when both John and Lucy were stabbed he showed his best, talking to a patient to practice safe sex in order not to get HIV from his partner despite that they didnt want him to, and especially protective of his patients who were children being abused by their parents. This I saw as personal for him which may have implied he too was abused during his childhood. Id would have liked to have seen more of him and his background explored. Unfortunately, due to his bad habits of speaking with his foot in his mouth way too many times like what he said about Benton's nephew(rightfully being punched for it by Benton), and wanting to have too much fun on the job is what caused him to lose it. Also, I'd would have liked if a character from the show ran into him, and found out how he was doing.
I see all sides of this. While he was an obnoxious character none of those doctors are perfect. I mean come on they didn’t fire Carter when he was shooting up. I could make a list. So does anyone believe that Malucci would've been able to find work in another ER after being fired for misconduct like this? I think at best he would be working in an Urgent Care center where you do nothing but non critical things like giving out prescriptions and simple suturing.
He would have to reapply again (or find an open PGY spot) but he would need Weaver's letter to do so. So he killed his ER career completely with that outburst. However, you are right in that he still has a license (only PGY-1 need needs to be done) so he can working in an urgent care, but he can't advertise himself as an ER doc because he isn't board certified (you need to complete residency for this).
I just saw this episode. In the first part, Malucci saved a guy who got stuck in the elevator with him (he behaved as cocky as usual but stayed focused and did well), and later on he was really hurt by being fired, claiming he should have seen the signs (something about a mediastinum) and Chen tried to lift him up telling him this might blow over. The thing with Benton's nephew, that was a serious problem, unlike this. Not to mention that Kovac once had sex in the ER when he was on duty with a patient’s mom in S9E4 and he didn’t get fired. Dr Green also had sex in the ER during the first season and didn't get fired either. As for the last part, if there’s nothing left to do, I can’t blame him for blowing some steam before leaving, and unfairly calling names, but at this point what difference does it make? I'll miss the guy. I think his character's storyline deserved a better approach. 😒And if you've seen the gag reel, you should know that Laura Innes and Erik Palladino had a fun time filming this episode. 🤣
you never EVER call someone that if you wish to try to save your job( and no i will not ever say those 2 words he called her) the way he acted and been through the process 5 times and when he called the other doctors nephew a "banger" and then say he was trying to apologise when the guy was in grief? nope, no way nuh uh that malucci deserved to be terminated

I like this is in stark contrast with almost every major character in modern medical shows that act like a cowboy and have sex on the job while somehow not getting fired.
Exactly. It's seems almost encouraged to have sex in on-call rooms in other medical shows. That's why ER was always on a different level.
Dr. Greene got some early on in Season 1.

RIGHT
This i can sort of understand, but still procedure should be followed.
