  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) For 2013 the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is new with a restyled and more sculpted body, a larger engine and an 8 speed automatic transmission. We recently had the chance to spend a week with the 3.8 Grand Touring model to check out the changes that Hyundai made to this sporty GT. In this drive and review Nathan and Roman have very different opinions about the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Check it out as the boys completely disagree.

    "heavy" but it's the second lightest v6 coupe in the segment with only the 370z being lighter

  • @matteo88
    @matteo88 12 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    too heavy? really guys have you looked at any of the other cars in this segment??
    Gen coupe 3.8GT: 3430lbs
    BMW 335i: 3560lbs
    Inifiniti G37: 3633lbs
    Audi A5: 3583lbs
    Acura TL (base): 3726lbs
    Ford Mustang: 3453lbs
    Chevrolet Camaro: 3780lbs
    i'm not able to find a lighter car in its class... shouldn't you be bragging that this car is light?

  • @dasgomezkanal
    @dasgomezkanal 9 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    Dumb.......
    Of course it is gonna take more time to accelerate to 60 mph since
    it is carrying an extra 250 pounds passenger on it; without mentioning the 300 pounds driver.
    Try it with a 150 pounds dude and see the difference (400 pounds less in weight) you may be surprised?

    • @Imleocalm
      @Imleocalm 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      "SEATS" are Cloth. Comfortable as long as your not overly obese. I've taken mine on many long journeys 150-350 miles. The ride is what you should expect from the caliber of car it is with non-adjustable suspension yet it's compliant.. It's NOT jarring.

    Absolute crap review. The opinion reflects step mother treatment to Hyundai. In any case, nobody is bothered about rear seats. Does German Brands offer good rear space? Review based on negative mindset. I believe some people can't digest the fact that Hyundai now produces decent vehicles at affordable prices.... And please remember the warranty Hyundai offers.... By the way I own Hyundai Santa Fe and BMW 320i. Peace of mind when it comes service and maintenance costs. Even if some cars manage 1 sec faster than Hyundai, that doesn't make them great and not worth paying additional 20K or more.... Hyundai is not perfect but not bad either.....

    I test drove a 2.0T Premium in Platinum Silver Metallic and was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to drive on both the street and the interstate. In the automatic the paddles can be used to override the computer without the shifter being in sport mode. The paddles do add a good measure of convenience when you can't be bothered to shift using the lever. The engine has plenty of low-end stomp for merging and passing, unlike the FR-S. And with eight gears to play with, the extra measure of control from the paddles will rarely go to waste on a deserted, twisty stretch of road

    Yes, I bet you did. We test our cars at over a mile up - as we said in the video. This decreases horsepower - as we say in all of our videos. That in turn slows these cars down, as we have been saying in all... I'm sure you get the point. Thanks for watching!

    The problem I have with the Genesis coupes isn't the weight. It has great power but not much usable power. The torque kicks in at like 5000+ rpms and thats just not that daily drive material.

    The dude says his problem is "what is the car" as in "who is it for" but if you go to the Hyundai site they have more options for ordering this car for what YOU want it to be. It comes with a 4 cylinder 274hp turbo motor or a 350hp v6, that really is amazing in comparison with the hp rate of its competitors and the fact that you can buy a Genesis Coupe to compete in whatever you want as long as you can get over the Hyundai name. It can do what a BRZ does or a Mustang you just have to order it.

    My 2015 3.8 genesis coupe auto did 0-60 in 4.8sec STOCK!💯 (sea level). The 2014-2016 3.8 autos come with lock up torque converters which helps shave off up to 2/10ths of a second off your 0-60 and quarter mile time. Too bad the 2013 doesn't have it.

    Entertaining review. I have a 2011 3.8 Track edition and it's been a fantastic car. Even still, too heavy...no question about it. I've made a few suspension tweaks and some basic bolt on performance mods and she does well enough at Deal's Gap. However, once the FRS/BRZ gets more power, I'm jumping ship unless Hyundai counters with something as lightweight and nimble.

    Alas, we are both cursed with the Bigfoot syndrome. The issue I often have is the space in the foot-well area and the spacing of the pedals. American and European coupes seem to work best for me. If I’m testing a Japanese or Korean car, I usually wear skinny shows, like my Vans. Big boots can often touch more than one pedal in small cars. Some of the most comfortable cars for me to drive for my feet and knees are MINIs and the Volvo C30. Despite the small size, I am comfortable behind the wheel.

    Dont think hes a big fan of Gennys. But IMO they are great. Great performance for the value. If youre a car enthusiast and dont really have grands to spend then this is a good fit. Fast reliable and easily modded for the tuners out there. I thoroughly enjoy my 13 3.8 gt genesis coupe. And dont get me wrong 370s and 350s are beautiful cars but at the price that they are the outputs are almost the same stock. Its about preference i guess. Dont hate till you drive it CORRECTLY. The torque on the genny is fun and the speed that it gains is furious. I dont regret a thing, people always are giving compliments and giving the thumbs up!

    • @Serjical23
      @Serjical23 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, excellent value for the money. I originally wanted a 350/370 but there is even less room in that and NO backseat. That was a dealbreaker for me. I have used the backseat for storage and even people when necessary. I wouldn't recommend putting people back there for a road trip, but it is there if you need it. The FRS/BRZ felt underpowered after driving the Genesis Coupe 3.8. The 350/370 are too impractical as an only car, and are still heavier cars. The Camaro/Mustang are a dime a dozen and also as heavy as the Genesis Coupe with less displacement and less horsepower. Luxury brands are too expensive if you want something newer. This car fit the bill perfectly, not to mention one of the best warranties in the business. I thoroughly enjoy my 2015 3.8

    I own a 2010 GC. The cargo room is great. The trunk is pretty big (easy to fit luggage), but the trunk opening isn't the greatest. Folding down the backseats make it very easy to carry snowboards, guitars, etc. Cargo room is never a problem.
    But why is "identity" a problem? It's only a problem if you're obsessed with pigeonholing cars into labels that people constantly argue about. Is it a sports car, a GT car, a muscle car...or...who cares? There is a lot of overlap in car "genres"

    Nathan and Roman, do you want to test a 2 door coupe that have plenty of room on the back seats??? Try the Dodge Challenger SRT8, its a great car with rear seat room for adults!!! The domestic cars industry can do it way better than the imports... You both won't be disappointed!!!

    i agree with roman. The car is furious but not fast. I mean its fast.....but it lacks low end torque that lets say the VQ engines provide. atleast IMO

    Stick that V6 engine in the Veloster! That would be sweet and solve at little bit of the back seat problems lol

    What? I am 6 foot tall and 310 lbs, I fit in them just fine. As a mater of fact I found it to be comfortable. There are only a few sports cars I can fit in, this IS one of them. Great car for the money!

    getting in and out of the genesis coupe is sorta like getting out of the last gen Vw Beetle. First time I got inside, I thought hey this isn't bad... until someone closed the hatch on my head.... OWWIE

    I love mine! But then again I'm just commuting in it and not racing, showing off, and what not.

    Well, their timing methods aren't exactly the most state of the art, and the fact that they are a mile above sea level does justify a 7.5 second 0-60 more.

    Yes, you can’t go wrong with a Honda Civic or Accord. I know what it’s like to have limited resources - I recommend used Acuras too. You’ll find they don’t hold their value like Hondas do despite the fact they are the same bones. Toyota is good too - but some of their rides are boring. Mazda (the Protégé and MX6) are pretty good too. Best of luck, and keep us in the loop!
