Just bought a JD 302A tractor with loader and the 10 th time I shifted the left side high low it got stuck. You advised what I was thinking just attempt to see if I can find a new shifter rod or whole assembly. Long time no see how your doing well these days M..
Great video and explanation on tractor shifter problems and hang-ups. Thanks! Makes me wonder why they won't put a grease fitting to keep shafts shifting slick.
MF 135 probably 60s or 70s model. Perkins 3 cylinder diesel. Hung in one gear, I think third. Can’t get in reverse either. Prior to fatal accident one year ago, deceased brother in law, we think he said it wouldn’t go into 2nd. Never said anything about reverse issue. It sat in field next to accident site for a year before I decided to go get it working again. Did and drove it carefully for about 1/2 mile in whatever gear it was locked in. High/low works and replaced hydraulic fluid Saturday and got lift working. Need all gears and especially reverse working. Property needs major bush hogging. Saw some vids suggesting use long screwdriver in fluid entry hole to pry over a gear. Your thought please sir. Learning a lot but new to me. Any help appreciated
1979 Ford 1700, 12 forward speeds, 4 reverse, range shifter locked into highest range. I've been hesitant to take the cover off but I feel a little better about it now. How similar is my transmission? I'm thinking (if it's the same setup) it's the ball/spring breakdown you talked about. Thanks for the video, BTW.
I have a Ford 4000 gas that you have to hold the shifter in reverse to keep it in gear. Everything works fine if you hold it in place. If you let go of the shifter it pops out of gear and will grind. Any Ideas what is wrong? And If I need to replace parts where might I get them?
Ok the push pull shifter is 90% on the old body style tractors. Most likely you have a bent roll pin or worst case bent shift fork. It is not hard to do either one, just intimidating looking if you have never worked on a tractor before. I highly doubt it to be the problem.. but there is a slim chance the gears have worn teeth.. doubt this is the case as you would hear some bad music in the transmission. Best place for parts honestly is an older Ford New Holland Dealer (As in , been around a while). Yes more expensive, but also the best quality. and once fixed, most likely will never need to be touched again in your lifetime.
Just reignited my hope for my old 401C. Thanks!
I really appreciate your knowledge sharing
You're very welcome!

Should be a Shibaura (Japanese) Ford model. Will be very similar to the one in the video.

Is it the naa bodystyle or the big blue box body?
@@AtlastaFarmCo Sorry I am not sure
It has one shifter, 3 forward and one reverse. The shifter has to be pushed down or pulled up then shifted
