    Amen! They used to have one as a challenge for people to try to open at the ATC in Harper's Ferry. I have the smaller version of yours. I use a coin or washer to open it. Excellent video! 😃👊

      That should tell Bear Vault just how difficult they are to open. The coin method may be better. I’ll try it. 🦑

    When I glanced at the title I had to do double take. I thought it said '3 easy tips to open a beer vault' 😂
    Great video as usual my friend Keith!

    Never had a BV, but it's nice to know this information.

      Should have been obvious but I had to research some better methods to open it. 🦑

    I ran across a super deal on a Bear-icade canister at Unclaimed Baggage Center about a month before my kayak trip to the Yukon last August. There is no way that I could've spent that kind of money on one without finding it a UBC. It is pretty cool and all, but you have to have a knife or a coin to twist open the latches, but I just tried to keep a coin handy in my deck bag. I haven't used it yet for hiking, I'm not sure how it is going to work, fitting inside of a pack.

      I would rather have a bearicade but it’s a little too expensive for what it is … for me anyway. If it doesn’t fit inside, it can be carried on top of a lot of packs. 🦑

      @@GoneFeralWithSquidly YES! Way too expensive! No way that I would’ve ever been able to afford one! I picked up this one for less than $80! And it is the second largest one that they make.

    card method works best for me

      Yeah, I like it. After making the video, I decided it may be the best method of those three. 🦑

    Great tips! I don't carry any of those items though lol. I'm thinking a spare water bottle cap might work. Just tried it. It works lol. Can be used to drive in stakes too!

    I don't use a Bear Vault, but I know CTUG now offers a Bear Can Key that can attach to the BV.

    I have never used a bear canister but I have thought of its ability to double as a stool. Have you used it for that and if so, what are your thoughts?

    • @GoneFeralWithSquidly
      @GoneFeralWithSquidly  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’ve never used it as a stool but I’ve had the thought that I could leave the chair at home which would help offset the weight. The biggest advantage for me is not having to throw a bear line. 🦑

    • @IceBearHalfwayPoint
      @IceBearHalfwayPoint 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I've used it like that. It's not big enough for most rear-ends to sit comfortably. I'd only use it as a seat in a pinch. I'd rather sit on my rain poncho on the ground, honestly. Hope that helps. 👊

    The spoon is the best solution, but I carry it in the BV so it is not an option. I use the credit card method and have found it to be the easiest solution. I use mine as something to sit on around camp and it works but is not comfortable. Happy Hiking

      I think I prefer the spoon method but I’m not sure how I’m going to store my spoon. 🦑

    Well, I have a few questions Squidly. The first one being, wouldn’t it be easier to use that duct tape to tape down that gift card to the side of the lid while you’re tryin to open it? Also, bears might need $3 more dollars on a gift card in order to get a cup of coffee. I mean if you got some cookies in that vault they might wanna use the gift card to buy coffee and then have it with cookies for a snack. But I don’t think that spoon is gonna matter if your bears eating your cookies and drinking your $3 coffee from your gift card. The knife might though. Great echoey video as always!

      When the bears find out I keep cheap instant coffee in the bear vault, it’s over. 🦑
