Hey man I appreciate the look at my great uncle he was & still is one of a kind who brought terror to the defense with every run. Hard to find anyone now a days who even has a clue who he is or how a fullback was once utilized. Thank you again!

Stephen Csonka man, you're uncle brought a lot of pain to my Bills. I got to winder, though, had he and a couple of other Dolphin players not been in the WFL, would they have three-peated in the Super Bowl? Your thoughts?

Csonka. What a great name for him. One of the real tough guys. He would just wear you out. By the 4th quarter, people didn't want to tackle him anymore.

Players didn't want to tackle him the first three quarters either.
I remember watching him, and he rarely even tried to juke defenders-- he purposely ran directly at them, time and again!

They’re sucking on purpose right now. I don’t like it but I guess they got tired of being a ~.500 team for most of the last decade and a half.
I really doubt their ability to make the most of these draft picks though.

That was one helluva backfield. Czonka, Kiik, and Mercury Morris. When Czonka needed a breather, Kiik would carry the load and continue the pounding and battering ram fest of the defense. When the defense would load up against them, Morris would burn them with scat back speed. But Czonka's mind bending and body breaking blend of speed and power made it work. And nobody had a better OL than the 72 Dolphins.
Czonka and Dick Butkis were the heart and soul of the NFL in that era. And the way they each dominated their respective positions defined the way football should be played. And this type of play is altogether missing from the modern league.

Zonk had more records than john riggin but only got recognition in the 72 dolphins season then in 73
He made Shula when coaching was , to pound the defense and wear them down. That he did well i remember zonk running through the defense in 73 season and winning the S.B. my dad was always glued to the tv on Sundays watching the dolphins , great memories jumping and screaming in the house and my mom yelling at us to be quite. I will never forget.

Larry Csonka was a Badass! Hard-nosed Fullback that punished the defenses that he faced while also defining the term that we all know as “Old Skool.” Humble guy who will always say that it was his teammates that contributed to the only undefeated team in NFL history and not just himself. There will never be a #39 worn in Miami again.

If were talking GOAT power backs... not having Earl Campbell in here is a major injustice... The Tyler Rose was the epitome of power backs who could run plain over you, or around you but he looked to run over people. Ran the ball consistently 30 to 50 times a game. Bum Phillips and the Oilers ruined his career by never doing anything but running him. His body took so much abuse... truly one of the greatest. Love Csonka though... same style of runner...

As an English fan of the NFL, but not knowing all that much about the history of the game, this was a very enjoyable video. I suppose the closest player in style to Csonka in rugby union was probably Jonah Lomu. He would simply run through would- be tacklers (see 1995 World Cup New Zealand-England). But Lomu would never actually look for opponents to run at and hit when carrying the ball!

I hope KTO makes a video on Bronko someday. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if Derrick Henry time traveled to 1933 and played in the NFL then, Bronko is pretty much the answer to that. He was a beast of a man and probably would get drafted in the top 10 if he were around today (which is just absurd when you realize how much smaller and slower NFL players were back then)

@@nick5865 - Campbell played after Csonka, so he can't be the original. Csonka wasn't even the original, that would be Bronko Nagurski followed by Marion Motley, Jim Brown and Jim Taylor. Campbell was great though, probably one of the 5 best RBs ever.

Especially since FB are the eyes and ears of the running backs. Instead of making that one man miss, the RB can get out into open space and do his thing. An unfortunate casualty of the NFL trying to cater to the passing game.

I was just thinking the same when the packers in one drive had a 1st & G on the 8, 2nd & G on the 5, and then a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th & G on the 1 and went with a pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass.
It was just about the saddest display I’ve ever seen lol... such a lack of faith (justifiably) in any semblance of a run game really shows where this league is at right now.

This arrogant generation of NFL professionals can't hold a candle to those who played in the 1960s, 1970s. Today's athletes may be bigger and faster but they are sorely lacking the heart and passion for the game. Czonka was the defination of a true warrior. Believe me, in the open field, he was fun to watch. You had to feel sorry for anyone in the defensive secondary who had to tackle this guy. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see him play. A true legend of the game.

You left out one of my favorite plays. When he was with the Giants, a Cardinals' safety hit one of our WR as he was going out of bounds. The WR, Robinson I think, was injured on the play. Csonka told him he'd get the safety if he had the chance. Later in the game Csonka broke through the line and had a full head of steam heading for the endzone. The only man in his way? That safety. I don't think he even tried to tackle Csonka, but Csonka and completely ran him down and pounded him into the dirt, left him knocked out on his way to the TD.

It's become a corporate entity.NASCAR also went corporate.Anytime stuffed pompous soy boys get involved in anything it gets cheapened.Walmart,IBM,Apple and Lockheed or our national space program getting involved in anything is turning it into a freak show where even the nonsensical is rationalized.Football was much different then. Now you can't even watch the super bowl without being preached to about how gay love is beautiful, women can play football too, only better.Gotta be a Berkley or Georgetown study.Harvard studies indicate the same thing. This was a football player tough guy.The real deal.
I can't imagine Csonka pontificating corporate value systems.Which is on its own is totally laughable.
