      It was possible in the 1960s. The first time a person rode an electric platform was 1847, decades before they rode a gasoline-powered platform.
      There's this issue called cost. What's the raw cost for producing that "Plaid" Tesla? What's the raw cost of producing the GT500? Therein lies the reason you haven't seen the proliferation of fast electric cars: they cost too much. If you're a relativist watermelon, you'd probably try to add all sorts of other costs that aren't really there.
      America's being spoonfed a line of bovine scat for the sake of that contextual fraud "climate change"; and the ends will include the masses trading their key fobs for mass-transit tokens. The government's making rules that will drive up the cost of private transportation so ordinary folks will have no chance to own and operate a GT500. They sure has hell won't afford a Tesla "Plaid".
      Yesterday, I drove a paid-for minivan to and from a major college football game. Four adults rode in this gasoline vehicle, covering about 500 miles easily in a matter of hours. Do that with the Tesla "Plaid", and see what it costs you in time and resources. The net efficacy of a high-powered electric car really hasn't changed much for the past six decades. And if you and I weren't paying for rich people to drive Teslas, there wouldn't been any at the race tracks or on the road.

    • @shanefiddle
      @shanefiddle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I just bought a used electric car and went 2000 miles on a road trip. They work great. Climate change is real, and it is coming for you, your gas key fobs and your children's lives. We need to change. Get with it, or be cursed by all future generations.

    • @DHW256
      @DHW256 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@shanefiddle your "climate change" is a fraud. And, no, I couldn't have driven an electric 500 miles yesterday.
      If electric cars are all you believe they are, then get the government out of mandating them, and demand they thrive by way of their own merit. Fact is, they won't.

    • @yemo34
      @yemo34 2 ปีที่แล้ว +62

      @@DHW256 what's hilarious about your statement is that the government isn't even close to mandating electric vehicles. And the vast majority of subsidies and tax breaks to car manufacturers making these kind of cars are mostly to increase domestic automobile production. The reality is the US for the first time in years was ahead of the curve.
      People want to buy electric vehicles. And for some reason you're mad about that and are creating bizarre conspiracy theories. Maybe in 20 years you'll be right.
      Also you can definitely go over 500 miles with an electric vehicle. You just got to charge it halfway through. Which by the way a lot of people do need to top off the tank with the normal car on a long trip, never mind bathroom breaks. But what I find even more hilarious is that it costs a few bucks to completely charge a vehicle. Well nowadays it can cost almost a hundred bucks to completely fill your tank.
      When you're talking about electrics. It's like reliving old timey gas prices. My father paid more for gas in the sixties!

    Last month a Tesla Model S Plaid in Napierville, Quebec set the new record for the fastest quarter-mile time for the electric sedan at 8.83 seconds and 161mph.
    The Model S had a stripped out interior for weight savings, as well as SV104 wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson drag radials at the rear and Michelin PS4 tires on the front.
    Not content with the blistering fast time, the same Model S Plaid has set a new record this week. At the same track in Napierville the Model S crossed the line in just 8.77 seconds at 162.55mph (261.60km/h). Unlike last time, there is a video of the record run which you can see below.
    As for what changed that allowed the car to go faster this time the owner, TMC user mulot30th, said there was an additional 60lb weight saving over the previous attempt due to someone else being behind the wheel on the run.
    Additionally he said there a slight change to the suspension.
    “Main change is suspension geometry change (slight) which reduce “tire drag” a little bit at least that is what I intended to do with that and have worked,” he said.
    Interestingly, the top speed at the end of his quarter mile run of 162.55mph is inches away from the electronically limited top speed (when not in Track Mode) of 163mph.
    As we first told you about earlier this week, Quebec-based Ingenext was able to hack their way past that limiter and reached a top speed of 216mph (347km/h).
    As for this Model S Plaid, the owner says that while the car does not feel like it is slowing down when crossing the line, he feels there is not much room to improve beyond 8.77s with the current setup.
    You can check out the record run below.

      @@mustardtiger9265 As you're a car guy I can probably have a decent chat with you about this. My point isn't really about the Mustang or it's driver at all, it's about everyone here getting excited that a 1000hp WAWD car spanked a 1000hp RWD.
      And performance car company can make a high HP family drag car, they just don't want to. Tesla do it because that's all they can make to impress as EV tech still has a long way to go, so they were smart and wanted to blind people that their cars have amazing performance, when they don't really - they just rely on massive power and AWD. If you look at the recent Plaid nurburgring time you'll see what I mean - it's AWD and has a power to weight ratio at the wheels 2.5 times that of other sports sedans like the M5 Comp and Giulia QV yet the Tesla still can't beat them. This shows how sh*t their performance really is, and how much Tesla rely on non-car normies getting all excited because they're quick in a straight line.
      What's funny is people always dumped sh*t on American muscle cars for apparently only being good in straight line. Yet here we have Tesla which performance wise really are only good in a straight line. And as you're an American muscle car fan you should see the irony in that.
      As Gordon Murray (Mclaren F1 designer) said in his anaylis of the Veyron "The most pointless exercise on the planet has got to be this four-wheel-drive thousand-horsepower Bugatti. I think it's incredibly childish this thing people have about just one element - top speed or standing kilometre or 0-60." Yet that is exactly what the latest Tesla is.

      wrong ... are you aware that elecric cars were made BEFORE internal combustion engine cars? First electric car was made in 1832. Yes that's 1832, not 19. Electric cars are just not viable and that's why internal combustion engines took over. Petrols is cheaper, quicker to refuel than to recharge electric and you can drive over 10x more distance.
      please educate yourselves people ... only reason why Tesla is getting popular, is because our computers have come further and it's now possible to optimize the electric cars to be bit more viable, but electric cars will NEVER be the future with our current battery systems. We simply don't have the tech to have a battery that would charge fast (1-5 minutes) and last 2-3 hours of drive time. This is what you'd need in order to have electric cars more viable than fossil fuel based cars. Electric cars are simply stuck behind batteries.

    That Tesla weighs 4,766 lbs - about as much as an old 60's cadillac!!* But with 1020 hp, coupled with the wide rpm range for high torque, this inertia seems quite effectively overcome.

      Shelby GT500 4100 lbs, not much lighter and it's smaller, way less cargo / human space lol.

    Pretty impressive, considering the Shelby is only rear wheel drive.

      And very consistent, but when more power more useless is the front wheel drive, because more weight transfer to rear, but Model S has long wheelbase so it has lower weight transfer. Too reduce front height (cheetah stance) for add weight to front at launch.

      It isn't tires, drive, etc. It's the brains in the concept.
      They're not born. There is a reason Musk replaced Fiskar when he took over Tesla.
      Does GM, Ford, Ferrari, Honda, etc., etc.(I'm tired), send rockets to space then bring them back and land them?
      Elon Musk does. He sold his first computer program when he was twelve. And PayPal. You get the point.
