David Bowie was an English singer-songwriter & actor. He constantly reinvented himself to stay current over nearly 5 decades. His first big hit was "Space Oddity" in 1969. He has had a lot of great songs including "Ziggy Stardust", "Rebel Rebel", "Young Americans", "Changes", "Fame", "Golden Years", "Ashes To Ashes", "Under Pressure", Let's Dance", "Modern Love", "China Girl", "Heroes" etc.
He Was A Fan Of Marvin Gaye & Always Wanted To Do A Tribute To Him,, But Not Until He Could Get It Just Right..And He Sure Did,, Robert Palmer "Mercy Mercy Me/I Want You"..A MUST HEAR..R.I.P. Marvin & Robert 🙏 ❤
Hey Stan you are The Man!!! This track is absolute "FIRE!!!" Back in the day when this came out & played at the clubs, the dance floor would get packed with people jammin' to that "stank-face" bass line & funky beat!!!
This song has 3 songwriting credits to it. . .David Bowie (of course), John Lennon, the former Beatle, who sings the high backing vocals and plays rhythm guitar, and Carlos Alomar, former James Brown guitarist who plays the lead guitar-finger picking counter melody. A monster of a song that has cemented its place in music history!
"Fame" is Bowie's transition to "Plastic Soul". Started with "Diamond Dogs" album. He had to kill Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders, metaphorically, to get to this point. Never a more influential artist, in contemporary music.
If you haven't done them already, I'll throw out some Bowie for your future consideration: 1.) Station to Station 2.) Stay 3.) Always Crashing in the Same Car (love the Carlos Alomar lead guitar on this one!) Also featured a young Luther Vandross on his "Young Americans" album as a song co-writer and vocalist.
Hey man. I really appreciate your letting the song play, because when you interrupt the groove people loose interest. I will come back and see more. Thank you Sir.
Albums: Young Americans (but recorded is best for this one), Hunky Dory, Diamond Dogs, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Station to Station, Low, Scary Monsters to start lol. There's good stuff on here (he kind of started the music video) from '72' like Five Years/Oh You Pretty Things/Starman through to Blackstar 2016. Careful it's an endless exploration once you start! Oh and if you do "Heroes" the video from Berlin 02 is killer.
At The Time,, David Was A Fan Of This Group,, But They Weren't Doing That Well,, UNTIL,, David Would Give Them This Song,, It Would Be A Big Hit & Become A Classic,, Mott The Hoople "All The Young Dudes"
This song is definitely channeling James Brown, seeing as his former guitarist Carlos Alomar is on the track. John Lennon doesn't do too bad, either, with his high register backing vocals and his funky rhythm guitar.
You have Luther VanDross and Valerie Simpson and John Lennon on that album....Young Americans. David Bowie said the album was a result of his stay in Philly...and he called the sound -PLASTIC SOUL- he was digging Philly Internationals label...Gamble and Huff...and the sound from that with all their artists.
Been a fan for ca 50 years #bowieforever ❤️😘🕊
Think fame is one of my top 10 Bowie favourites .So funky ..love it!

Wow, someone who actually listened to the whole song without stopping it every 15 seconds to talk. Amazing. 👍
lol
I just left the same observation that I have
Im sorry. You left. I just pulled 3, 14 hours. Tired. Sorry. Typo
Such a fabulous and ahead-of-its-time song. John Lennon did back-up vocals. Which is pretty obvious when you hear it.
This One Is Funky Like A Monkey,, Love It
..R.I.P. David 🙏 ❤
