  • In this video, I’ll throw out to you an engaging abstract painting warm-up challenge with a simple landscape prompt. Get ready to unleash your creativity and explore the world of abstract art with me!
    ➡️50 Abstract Warm-Up Painting Prompts etsy.me/49utFsk
    In this challenge, you will have 15 minutes to create a captivating painting using acrylic paint. To start, choose a color and its complementary color as your main palette. For my example, I've used Titanium white, Mars black, Phthalo green, Green yellow, and Light olive green as my acrylic paint colors.
    To begin the exercise, grab your favorite tools such as markers, paintbrushes, pencils, charcoal, or pastels-anything you feel comfortable using to make marks on your surface. The goal here is to experiment with different textures and create interesting marks using your complementary color. Feel free to let your imagination run wild as you explore various techniques and approaches!
    Once you've established a dynamic and engaging foundation with your complementary color marks, it's time to introduce the landscape prompt. Keep it simple, yet captivating. Consider elements like rolling hills, a serene beach, or a cozy cabin nestled among trees-let your creativity guide you.
    Remember, this abstract painting exercise is all about expressing yourself and embracing the freedom of interpretation. Don't be afraid to push boundaries and explore new techniques during this challenge.
    After explaining the guidelines, I will demonstrate my own interpretation of this art prompt. You'll see how I incorporate complementary color marks into my landscape composition using alcohol-based markers (amzn.to/3qPmeeb). Follow along, be inspired, and see how a simple exercise can yield exciting and unique results.
    So, are you ready to take on this abstract painting challenge? Grab your favorite art supplies, set your timer for 15 minutes, and let's dive into the world of abstract landscapes together. Get those creative juices flowing, and let's create some magic on canvas, paper, wood panels, or whatever you have!
    Don't forget to like this video, subscribe to my channel for more art challenges and tutorials, and share your experience in the comments below. Let's embrace the beauty of abstract painting and have a blast exploring our artistic potential!

    I really love this one because it showed me I’m not the only one who blends with her hands! Also, I never thought to apply the paint on edges with my hands! I’ve always used a brush the way I was taught. I’m going to try the edges with fingers, it looks cool. Great job Chris, beautiful.

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks, Susie! I love blending paint with my hands. It's definitely messy, but gives a different look sometimes than using a brush. I'm also a little impatient and like to jump right in whether I have a brush in hand or not...haha.

    Hi Chris - wow - what a result - I know we are not supposed to expect masterpieces, but I really loved the result here, and it resonates so much with what i want to do. So often I want to abstract landscape and end up with bad landscape! You made it look so simple, as always. Anyway, beautiful colours, and orientations 2 and 4 were my favs. Especially 2.

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Emmanuel! Thank you so much! I have done that as well, many times. It's easy to start abstractly and start adding details until you end up with a poor representational piece. At least that's the problem I run into now and then. 🤦‍♂️

    I really enjoyed watching this video. The more I watch your videos the more im understanding and building up a bigger picture of how to approach abstract art.
    I like how the red can still be seen peeking through, but not so much that it takes away focus.
    I was interested to see the way you hold the pens further up, creating less precise marks.
    I also really liked the point you made about the fact that you know what it represents, but it doesn't matter if the person looking at it does.

    • @chrisloudart

      Thank you so much!❤️ I'm glad the videos are helping you build a better understanding of abstract art. I love that you noticed the subtle red and the technique with the pens-it’s all about finding what feels right for you. One of my favorite aspects of abstract art is the personal interpretation that each person has with each piece.

    Love the painting, of course living in Tasmania, I wouldn't know the geography of where you are but it looked landscapish to me. I love doing representational landscapes streetscapes. However, I've been looking into non representational work to break out of my comfort zone, I think it's a good thing to do because it keeps your work fresh, also you start thinking differently I think, and experimenting, well it's fun. Yes please keep the exercises coming one day I'll get the knack of it. As always thank you for sharing. Cheers!

  • @dawnarobertson9577
    @dawnarobertson9577 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The colors are so seductive. What would YOU do to turn this from a “warm up” to a show-ready, piece of art? When you used the red marker, I thought this was going to be a mistake, but it really is enticing with that glorious Thalo green and light green.

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, I wasn't so sure the red marker was going to work either, but thought it would be fun to try. It ended up working well with the background in my opinion. What would I do? Excellent question. My initial thought is to add a few bits of darker blue (maybe Prussian, or possibly Winsor to go with the phthalo green). I think that will provide it with more depth and contrast. This is actually one on my table to revisit this week.😊
