If you press L3 your minimap will zoom-in to the current zone, which not only highlights all the obstacles and ledges, but also shows you all the shortcuts as well.
right. i still dont get why they would remove that shortcut. mhgu had a pretty bad director, imo i.e. monsters start their attack, before your character has loaded/entered into the section of the map. having to make multiple of the same armor piece because of the transmog system talisman trash rng (ive hunted brachy 100+ g4 coal event q, and have yet to get some useful offensive talismans) etc etc
Unsure if it still exists, but in the dunes map you could swing from tree vine to tree vine in Area 3 to find a small cave opening up on a cliff by the water, which took you to I believe Area 11, the felyne den. Nearly useless and thinking on it it may have been exclusive to the Night version of the map from MH4U
