Thank you all so much, I released this video over a week ago and I now have 500 subscribers!! I have a question for you all: what would be the title of this game?
I decided not to put a ton of detail into the open world as that would've just been too much to undertake for a video lol. But I completely agree, I even pictured Peach's castle being in a sort of valley (like SM64) but this time with "gaps" in the valley's walls that lead to the three bridges I mentioned.
Bomb-Omb battlefield is a good idea, it can serve as the military for peach's part of the kingdom, and in 64 you had pink Bomb-Ombs that were on your side so they can act as peach's troops along with military toads with spears
But instead of fighting King Bob-omb, you sit next to him while he reflects on his past. And Bob-omb gives Mario a star or moon. You sit on top of the ruins of the mountain with Bob-omb, and you gaze at the distance. I feel like instead of fighting him, it can be a calm atmosphere. I feel like that would be a better approach, plus it will be more emotionally rewarding.
I was thinking the same thing! Maybe it could also heal Mario if you grab a second power up that matches the active power otherwise it doesn’t heal and joins the inventory. That can also replenish power hp. I think there should be a secret power up based on the other 3D Mario games. Like we find Winged Cappy (not our Cappy) trying to deliver a prototype Fludd to Egadd. It’s a one-time mission that will give you a secret reward if you can make it across the map without losing the “Flying Fludd”.
First thing that came into my mind when I heard "Open World Super Mario Bros" was Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. Such a neat concept for the Kirby series. Maybe not 1-to-1 for a Mario game, but something similar to it would be neato.
I feel like the Koopalings are divisive because they make the bosses too samey. But they are still fun to have around. I think the fix is to have the Koopalings have team up bossfights. You could have 3 fights of 2-2-3 or 2 fights of 3-4. That way you still have old favorites, but make room for new bosses too. Also, the haunted woods should absolutely have a Wario boss fight. And there should be a pirate fight either with Captain Syrup from Wario Land. And a 3D Reznor fight could be awesome.
I really think they could make the Koopalings a lot more interesting since they'd be in 3D for the first time. And you don't just have to be fighting them directly, have some spectacle to it like Bowser Jr. had with Megahammer in SMG2.
I mean he literally blew up after permanently fusing himself with an otherworldly god of destruction and turning into a bug-thing so idk if they *have* to bring him back That said, I'd love to see him back as well! They're Nintendo, they could just make up a reason for him to be back again!
I could definitely see a lot of secrets and fun easter eggs hidden in this game. One that i’ve thought of is a Paper Mario book hidden somewhere in Peach’s Castle (probably a library of sorts).
A one-time challenging side quest where Winged Cappy (not our Cappy) is trying to deliver a prototype Fludd (weaker Fludd) to Egad. You essentially have to glide multiple times across the map without taking damage and Egad will provide a secret reward.
6:52 missed opportunity to make it sunshine airport from mk8 👺 Jokes aside, awesome video! I love each and every idea mentioned in the video. I think King Bob-Omb, Goomboss and other bosses should make a return, maybe as mini-bosses or something like that, while the Koopalings are obviously the main bosses. I also think it'd be cool to put in some Mario Kart locations, like Neo Bowser CIty, which I think would work great in an open-world theme. Nintendo should take notes of whats listed here. (EDIT: I just realized how many subscribers you have. My GOD, you are underrated.)
Not trying to overwhelm, but here's what I see should be bosses besides the koopalings: Boom Boom and Pom Pom Big Blooper thing (Super Paper Mario, Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario Origami King, one of those) Hooktail King Bob-omb King Boo Thwomp King Bouldergeist Petey Pirahna Kamek Some sort of Eyerock or the guy from the Inverted Pyramid Goomboss Mole boss from Mario Galaxy Reznor :) Wiggler(s) King Kaliente Metal clown from 3d world Some sort of Shy Bandit, Nabbit, or the like Dragon from odyssey (not practical, but it was awesome in Odyssey!) Maybe some Hammer Bro duels or something, idk Technically not real (from Super Mario Bros. 2): Tryclyde Mouser Wart Plot-Changers: Any main villians from Super Paper Mario, any broodal, 90% of enemies in Mario and Luigi games, such as the shroobs
i feel like a cool idea instead of having a fun house or circus for lemmy, have it be luigis mansion all filled with koopas and stuff instead of ghosts
I thought about that actually, I decided I didn't want to go any more into unrealistic expectations than I already had (Isle Delfino is a very unrealistic expectation unfortunately).
I really like the addition of DK Island! As a massive Donkey Kong fan I feel like that would fit perfectly in a Mario game and would make for an interesting and fitting setting.
I’d love to hear more about this potential game, especially what you think the story could be. Mario isn’t known for it’s crazy stories, but with a huge open world game like this, there’s definitely gotta be some sort of plot driving things forward
When you brought up the Koopalings returning it made me shake my head no, but after hearing you out about how they would control different Kingdoms (I love Bowser Jr controlling Yoshis Island) I was sold!
I’d love it if each area had a painting that you could activate, which would link it back to a different room in Peach’s Castle. Then the castle could be a fast travel hub and it would double as a Mario 64 reference. That said, I think Isle Delfino in this concept is way too ambitious. In Sunshine we only see a select few spots around the island, and the open world approach would necessitate the entire island to be fleshed out- which could be an entire game’s worth of content in its own right. I say save Isle Delfino for DLC or a second quest like the Special Worlds from 3D Land or worlds mushroom, flower, and star from 3D World. Of course, that leaves a Koopaling without a castle, which might necessitate us taking a page from Breath of the Wild’s book and having Bowser Jr. seize Peach’s Castle. Then the fast travel points would simply be different entrances into a piecemeal dungeon that you spend the entire game chipping away at, slowly opening paths to take on the penultimate boss who holds the key to vanquishing Bowser and saving the Princess.
I definitely understand that, I was definitely exercising my frustration with the fact that Isle Delfino was on Odyssey promotional material, only for it to not appear in the game. It's a lot to add to an open world game. I really like your idea with Peach's Castle tho, it could even be a more "linear" part of the game in that upon completing the other dungeons, Peach's Castle is seized suddenly.
Yeah something like it could happen when you got a midway amount of stars before bowser, peach's castle could be taken out by kamek and you have to do their story line if you want to get back your fast travel hub zone. There could also be another way to fast travel once you unlock certain pipes.
2:36 I think power-ups should work like the life mushroom in galaxy, but instead of adding on to your health, it more so serves as a way to tell the player how many hits they can take before losing the power up (like how you traditionally lose power ups in most mario games).
Good idea. I've even been reconsidering my health count that I brought up in the video; maybe instead of 8 hit points, Mario has 5 in this, with each power up adding 3 hits until Mario loses it.
I feel like Isle Delphino would make for a good basis for an open world. It’s already set up so that you can see how each area is supposed to connect, so they just need to build off of that by allowing traversal in between areas and creating new areas in between.
What about locations from Super Mario 64? It is implied that the paintings act as portals to locations around the Mushroom Kingdom, as opposed to the worlds being inside the paintings themselves. I envisioned an open world Mario game similarly to this but with all (or at least most) of the SM64 locations being found as organically part of the greater entire Mushroom Kingdom. Like Cool Cool Mountain and Snowman’s Land would be part of the greater snow region, and Shifting Sand Land part of the greater Desert region. And of course, Bob-Omb Battlefield is somewhere out there as well, part of one of the grassy regions. I’ve never actually played any of the Paper Mario games, but I’m sure there are plenty of locations to take inspiration from too. Don’t forget Mario and Luigi’s house, of course! I expected Yoshi’s Island, but you went even bigger and even more beyond, including Isle Delfino AND DK Isle. Isle Delfino itself was obviously meant to be an open world, and very easily could have been without the hardware limitations of the Gamecube era (all a tropical theme, and you can EVEN SEE different parts of the island that are simply locked behind invisible walls….. I remember always trying to jump over the hill in SM64 in the front yard of the castle, always wondering what’s beyond there. This game would answer that. Haven’t seen it yet, but there could probably be inspiration from the movie too (but not copying it, it’d still be GAME Mario, not movie Mario, that’s an alternate universe/timeline that should stay separated from the games). Plenty of locations from other games to integrate organically into the open world Mushroom Kingdom though. And there can still be new stuff too. We still need Odyssey 2 first though. Ideally still on the Switch. Open world Mario (it could simply be called *Super Mario Kingdom*) could be the big 3D Mario game for whatever comes after the Switch.
Honestly, I really freaking live this idea. Even if some of the areas were literally big enough to make up whole games, mostly the islands, I'm sure they could be scaled properly to make up their own courses. I'd love to see Isle Delfino in full open glory, but especially Yoshi's Island!! And for DLC, I already know what's next: Sarasaland! Now that's one kingdom I'd love to see return!!
Neat! Coincidentally, I had a similar Open World Mario concept, with the core gameplay loop being star collecting with 64's health system, Mushrooms as healers, the Cape Feather and Tanooki Suit with the statue appearing as powerups, the setting being the Mushroom Kingdom, the Koopalings being major foes, etc. The main differences, however, is that I decided to take on BoTW's gameplay method of allowing you to go straight to the final boss once you've beat the tutorial area, while the stars merely weaken the final boss, in this case Bowser. I also instead made the Koopalings have their own regional quests where they grant Grand Stars from Galaxy.
I feel like a nice way to transition the Mario formula to a open world formula is by making it a reconquer the kingdom type situation. You can travel anywhere but you won't gain support because of the koopas. you reconquer an area by beating the dungeon, boss and capturing its flagpole. Whatever collectables you find serve as currency or gimmicks to make the game less tedious like opening gates or gaining transportation. Maybe even giving you npcs that help fight the enemies in the open world. enemies and obstacles become more abundant in other areas for each area you reconquer. Thus making the last area you choose a challenge. Bowser is huddling all his forces around his fortress that serves as the final dungeon.
I was thinking Sarasaland could be added, as a postgame area (like such areas in Dragon Quest) or it could be an optional area, where Tatanga once again wreaks havoc and Princess Daisy is a damsel in distress and King Boo as another optional boss, but he has managed to turn the tables and kidnap Luigi.
I have a few ideas. 1.They should expand on Mario's moveset, like giving him some combat moves, like he has in smash bros. 2. They should make a interesting story with voice acting and cutscenes. 3. A new health system for mario, enemies and power ups, for example, mario starts with 100 HP, if touches a power up he gets an over shield (which is the power up's health bar) for about 75HP, it may have more or less HP depending on which power up he gets. And if he gets a super mushroom, it will restore HP. 4. A skill tree, character upgrades and special abilities. 5. Multiplayer (local and online). And lastly, Multiple playable characters (Waluigi included lol). That's what I would LOVE to see in the next 3D Mario game.
It might start straying a little too far from what mainline Mario is, but I agree on your second and last points the most. The movie did amazing, let's try a story for the games now.
The only "fighting game" I've played is Smash, which isn't even a traditional fighting game, so if a Mario one came out I'd probably only play it if it looked really unique in some way.
The !-Switch idea is kinda genius. Gating progression by using literal blocks is a fantastic idea, and I think it would even lend itself well to a 2D Metroidvania Mario game or something. Regarding bosses, I think it would be cool if each open-world area has its own Fortress, alongside the main dungeon. Like maybe you fight King Bob-Omb on an armored ship at some point during the Water World. Or Petey in a desert cave. I think there could also be room for unique overworld bosses that we've never seen before. Maybe minibosses in the dungeons as well! There's always that Koopaling fight at the end, but halfway through, maybe you have to fight a special enemy. These could be as simple as variations of a Boom Boom fight, or as complex as a brand NEW enemy. Overworld bosses could be a blend of old and new. I'd imagine they'd be optional, akin to stuff like Hinoxes and Taluses in Breath of the Wild. Imagine stumbling across a giant Goomba in the forest, an Ant-Lion boss in the desert, a Gooper Blooper in the ocean, or a wall-climbing Monster in the canyon. I think the nature of an open-world game really lends itself well to having both familiar _and_ exciting unique enemies we've never seen before.
Hey, I've seen you on Twitter sometimes! Nice to see you here! And thanks for the ! Block compliment, once I realized that, I felt I finally figured out where the difficulty and progression of the game could come from. And yes, I'd love for there to be lots of new stuff. I didn't include concepts for those since I figured it would be too much to try to balance those in this video, so I stuck to what's currently established. And it's not exactly new, but I did just think of potentially having a giant Wiggler in the canyon, since it would be similar to 64 and could be a nice subtle callback.
For the powwr ups: Mario has 6 hp, getting it to 3 hp left makes you become small mario, a power up adds 3 hp to your health bar, get hit 3 times and the health bar returns to 6 and you become big mario
I honestly feel sticking to the Mushroom Kingdom and only having established characters as bosses really makes this kinda boring. After Super Mario Bros. Wonder and everything THAT brought to the table, I feel an open world game will take place in a new location. Or if it still is the Mushroom Kingdom, there will be heavy alterations to it that make it feel original.
What if Mario only has 5 health, when he goes under 3 he becomes little, when he gets a power up he gets 5 additional health and when that goes out Mario returns to normal and loses his way to replinish the 5 health from the power up
To give an answer to the question from the beginning regarding the power ups, I think a good solution would be for each power up to take a set amount of hits, like a fire flower could let you take 4 or 5 hits, and maybe even add an upgrade mechanic to each power up to allow you to take more hits, each upgrade costing more and more so it makes you think about what power up you wanna use more often ❤
I swear I’d buy this when it comes out if it ever becomes a game , you got me so excited I’m so hopeful if Nintendo ever does make a open world game , amazing video btw :-)
the power meter might work better for an open world mario game! rather than mario losing his item once we get hit and having to backtrack to get the power up again if we wanted it xD we need the propeller mushroom. ayyy yoshi's island and isle delfino!! mario sunshine my fav 3d mario game. we need the koopa bros from paper mario as a mini boss!! the whomp king, king kaliente, kingfish for sure in the ocean somewhere. bouldergeist, the ruined dragon. would be also really cool if the world had some mario kart tracks scattered around some time of racing mini games would be cool!! amazing video!! i havent played bowsers fury yet but now i reallly wanna haha acutally i havent beaten mario odyssey i need to get on that as well!!
An open world Mario game makes me imagine, like open world Zelda, Speedrunner Mario skipping all the star gathering and heading straight to Bowser to kick his ass.
I want to imagine that the cape would functionally be more similar to the wing cape as in you can really gain height, but swooping up and down can still gain speed and keep you in the air but won't let you go higher than when you started.
Honestly I don’t care that much about an open-world Mario but your narration and editing kept me watching to the end. I feel you could have even made it a longer video than what is actually is. A part 2 wouldn’t be a bad idea if you want some easy watchtime, you could elaborate more on areas such as the story and how other characters such as Luigi come into play here.
id love to see your take on a hypothetical direct sequel to super Mario RPG as opposed to spiritual sequels like the paper Mario series or the Mario and luigi series
If it also had a way to incorporate existing mario kart tracks, that would make the whole world very immersive and would give a sense of all the games being connected.
I'll be honest, I was utterly confused when I realized, that the video is about 3D Mario. I always associated the name "Super Mario Bros." with 2D Mario Games. Nonetheless, the idea of an Open World 3D Mario is very amazing! I'd love to see a game in the style you presented.
Love these kinds of videos, this is the type of concept I adore coming up with and documenting myself, but that I've never gotten around to presenting in the TH-cam format. Would love to see more stuff like this!! Liked + subbed (Would be a good idea to link Wolffe's channel in the description until his follow-up video comes out btw so we remember to come back to it)
i had an idea for how powerups could work: they are permanent and one obtains eatch after eatch boss, with you having the ability to switch between them at any moment for puzzle and fighting, for an example you could be in a enemy room with enemies from afar so you use the fire flower to attack them, then turn into cat to go over some walls and then turn into normal mario to fix a pipe with your big ol' hammer to let a current go through and get a start
That could definitely be interesting and a new approach at using power ups! Wolffe hasn't worked on his video much yet but he had the same idea as you when it comes to fixing pipes and such for traversing!
I'd love to see something that's like the sunken ghost ship in Super Mario World or Booster's tower from Super Mario RPG, and when you go inside it has the isometric perspective but still has the platforming mechanics instead of rpg ones. And also what if some areas had the gallomba instead of regular goombas and you could stomp on it and throw it just like in Super Mario World, maybe used to find some extra stars.
There should definitely be a jungle area, idk where on the map, where you have to help out Wario find on an Indiana Jones temple thing. The thing would have tons of powerups, rewards, and you'd find some sort of key to one of the bosses. A common thing in video games is some unlockable for the boss, and looting a pyramid would be perfect. (Extra idea: Waluigi could explain that his brother got stuck in the pyramid while looking for the 'legendary treasure')
Areas in this game: Peach's Castle Toad Town Mushroom Harbor Mushroom Airport Peach Beach Fire Flower Field Mushroom Gulf Koopa Cape Koopa Submarine (Wendy’s Castle) Dry Dry Dessert Dry Dry Ruins (Larry’s Castle) Mushroom Valley Koopa Cave (Morton’s Castle) DK Island (Roy’s Castle) Delfino Airstrip Delfino Plaza Bianco Hills Ricco Harbor Gelato Beach Sirena Beach Noki Bay Pianta Village Corona Mountain Pinna Park (Iggy’s Castle) Woody Woods Woody Mansion? (Later changed to "Lemmy's House o' Fun!”, Lemmy’s Castle) Snowman Land Cool Cool Mountain Cool Cool Peak Cold Cold Crevice (Ludwig’s castle) Yoshi's House Flowery Fields Shy Guy Lake Crystal Cave Yoshi Mountain (Later changed to Yoshi Volcano) Cloudy Peaks Bowser Jr.'s Castle (Semifinal Battle) Koopa Kingdom Grumble Volcano Bowser's Castle (Final Battle) Post-game extra areas: Starry Sky Mushroom Space Station Flowery Space Telescope Land of No Return (Later changed to Champion's Kingdom)
Wow, interesting video! I'm literally working on a Mario Open World project, but in 2D. I don't know if it's a good thing or not, but I've already planned (and implemented) some of the ideas you mentioned in the video. I've also got a few more ideas but... I can't say anything, no spoilers 🤫 I hope to be able to show this project one day!
Awesome! After seeing the trailer for Super Mario Bros. Wonder and seeing the "You got a Wonder Seed!" text, I really hope they're thinking of going that direction. I'm interested in that video btw, so I'll be looking out for it!
Idk how big a fan of other Nintendo/Nintendo-like franchises, but this seems to be your biggest video yet. If you want to continue bringing views to your channel, maybe make a follow up to this video. Some ideas could include: Open World Kirby Game Open World DK Game What a future Open World Zelda might look like? Etc. People will recognize you again, especially if you make a similar thumbnail, and they’ll be more likely to watch your video. Just thought I’d throw that out
I'd definitely wanna do a video on a future Zelda game and how I might make it a little LESS open than TotK lol. I've played several Kirby games but I wouldn't consider myself a "fan", so I wouldn't be able to do one for that. DK? Maybe. I honestly think DK should stick to 2D platformers personally. I'd rather make videos about game concepts that I'd actually want to play.
I think the biggest issue that Nintendo would have in making a Mario Open world game is to make the game as good as Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom, but at the same time not too similar to them. So, while in the Zelda open world games Links evolves during his adventure, in a Mario open world game Mario would always stay the same, but the world around him would change under his actions. New path and short cuts would be created. New power ups would be unlocked. Rescued characters would take turn in the action, each one with their perks and weaknesses. Heck! Power ups could even affect the characters in different manners. And also we need new power ups that fits a open world better but still fits in a Mario enviroment, no matter the crazyness. The crazier the better IMHO.
Am I the only one that doesnt want a open World Mario? I think it wouldn't work because you can't change the themes of the Worlds so drastically an d. Just think about how you would connect every Mario Odyssey Kingdom in just 1 World - it wouldn't work. They would have to make a wide transition between the themes, which would make the world boring and empty. I enjoyed SMG and SM64 because there are so many different themes and the worlds don't get boring after a while because you don't stay in one world that long
I can imagine that Nintendo will eventually make an open world sandbox Mario game like bowsers fury. Since it could have lots of Easter eggs, Troll moments, An Awesome Soundtrack and many many more. However I can see that happening when Nintendo reveals like a whole new console in the year 2026 or 2030
I think that peach wont be the one imprisoned anf its up to peach and mario to rescue: toad, luigi, daisy and yoshi would be locked up: After completing the main story more puzzles would appear, those require the new characters: Toad: can fit into small spaces, runs fast, low hp & attack power Luigi: jumps higher like in smb2, same damage as mario but doesnt run well Daisy: can float like peach for longer, low hp, low damage, high jump Yoshi: flutter jump, tongue, mario hp, slow run, damage makes yoshi run faster, no powerups are able to be used
Donkey Kong playable when you free him since he can use power ups too as shown in the movie? Maybe more unlockable characters in some of the other areas with each being unique like in Mario 64 DS or Mario 3D World? If we got a new character in each world I'm thinking: - Toad in Peach's Castle/ Toad Town - Luigi in the Haunted Mansion of course - DK on his island - Yoshi on his island - Rosalina in the Ice Mountains (she's from space but rosalina had an Ice track in Mario kart 7 so there’s that) - Wario on the Dessert Ruins - Peach on Bowser's Castle - Daisy on Delphino or Bay (?) - Waluigi on the Canyon (?) I don't know who else could be playable, Pauline is there but having to come up to unique movesets IDK, maybe it would be Toadette.
I think some cool locations and mini bosses could be a bob-mob battlefield with King bob-omb, A King K rool area on DK island akin to DK64s area and final boss fight, a bonus world in space with gobblegut after you beat the main story, similarly possibly some sort of old ruins behind bowsers castle with the ruined dragon. I think seeing some of the more iconic but less common enemies like these could be really cool. Maybe if you were to return to some locations after beating a boss you could have new bosses? Like King boo in place of Lemmy, Dry bowser in place of Bowser, the Broodals in place of Roy, Gooprr blooper in place of Iggy, and some new bosses too.
i think having the giant eel be either a repeatable set encounter or a chance encounter either near or when your passing over water. possibly a last ditch effort from bowser to get mario while he makes it over to the castle other than that maybe an area with the giant wigglers aswell.
Woulda liked a sorta secret haunted forest area. Luigi’s mansion-based castle would be rad and could easily place king boo (as well as some NSMB or 64-style traps like trick blocks or the notorious piano). Also would have played with his moveset; 64’s combat moves and the vault from Mario run come to mind. Movements always been fun for me in open world games Finally I will rest my unqualified back-seating by suggesting a mushroom sky-based area. It’s never complete without one. Needless to say this video was amazing and I feel like it’s a thought that crosses every Mario fans head once in a while
I would *LOVE* to see an open world-Mario-Game, too. But I really want it to be fully open world. Not like Bowser's Fury where you had to unlock specific areas. I think it would be awesome if it was like BotW or TotK, so that everything is accessible right from the beginning. I can't agree with your idea with the switches, because this just limits the player and kinda destroys the concept of an open world. I would make the main-collectible make something like this: You can go whereever you want in every possible order in this world, except of the final boss. Bowser is behind a great gate and the player needs to build some kind of weapon (a big hammer for example) in order to break the gate and enter the final boss. Every main boss has a specific element which you need to build this weapon. So you have to defeat every main boss and beside this collect many of the main-collectibles (but not every) to enter the final boss and beat the game. Or you need just 4 of the 7 main bosses and the main-collectibles. These are some of my ideas to this. And I think an open world-Mario-Game would be the ultimate videogame. 😊
I think mario should have six health or four with an additional two when he has a power up, for example: he is at 5/6 or 6/6 health when he has a power up. 3/6 or 4/6 health is without a power up. And you are mini mario at 1/6 or 2/6.
Really good video now I really hope and wish for Nintendo to make a 3d mario open world or even an official 2d mario open world. It would be amazing to have lots of easy stars like in odyssey and lots of complicated secondary quests stars or multi stars for story driven zones like in the 3 first paper mario and the mario and luigi serie, or even having a tinier luigi mansion in the game as a quest would be awesome.
Thank you all so much, I released this video over a week ago and I now have 500 subscribers!!
I have a question for you all: what would be the title of this game?
Where's the e wolf video link? has it not been released yet?
No it hasn't, he's been busy with other things and may not get to it for a long while. Sorry about that.
Super Mario: Expedition
@@moldomre4838 ohhh ok, just let the comments know once its up :)
@@moldomre4838 No worries, he can take his time.
King Bob-Omb needs an apearance. I think having a Bob-Omb battlefield in the open world would be amazing.
It should be a side boss like the gleeok in totk
I think he would be like Kohga from totk
But instead of fighting King Bob-omb, you sit next to him while he reflects on his past. And Bob-omb gives Mario a star or moon. You sit on top of the ruins of the mountain with Bob-omb, and you gaze at the distance. I feel like instead of fighting him, it can be a calm atmosphere. I feel like that would be a better approach, plus it will be more emotionally rewarding.
The power ups could add an extra health bar, and once that extra health bar is depleted, Mario loses the power up.
This should be turned into an actual game right now, there are so many good ideas in here, and this vid should have more views!
Thank you so much!
Id like to see Fawful in this game. He last apeared in 2019 in the Remake of Bowser's Inside Story. Nintendo HAS to bring him back one day
I mean he literally blew up after permanently fusing himself with an otherworldly god of destruction and turning into a bug-thing so idk if they *have* to bring him back
That said, I'd love to see him back as well! They're Nintendo, they could just make up a reason for him to be back again!
I could definitely see a lot of secrets and fun easter eggs hidden in this game. One that i’ve thought of is a Paper Mario book hidden somewhere in Peach’s Castle (probably a library of sorts).
Or some of the Paper Mario characters as NPC with side quests.
A one-time challenging side quest where Winged Cappy (not our Cappy) is trying to deliver a prototype Fludd (weaker Fludd) to Egad.
You essentially have to glide multiple times across the map without taking damage and Egad will provide a secret reward.
This really feels like a mix between Pokemon Scarlet + Violet and Super Mario, this would be amazing to see nintendo actually do!
I've never played any Pokemon games actually, so I'm somewhat surprised to hear that comparison, but I'm glad you liked the idea!
ew dont associate those games with mario
Yea…idk if scarlet and violet is a good example of an open world
As a Pokémon and Mario fan, don't put the two together to make a game an open world game 😭
You're right, i would love to see a mario game with tons of glitches.
Leaving a comment for the algorithm, I'm shocked that this only has 3k views. Really enjoyed the video!
Your content is very good for only having 724 subscribers I expected you to have thousands Great video
6:52 missed opportunity to make it sunshine airport from mk8 👺
Jokes aside, awesome video!
Thanks! And yeah Sunshine Airport is actually a great idea, I didn't think about Mario Kart locations when making this but those would be cool!
Not trying to overwhelm, but here's what I see should be bosses besides the koopalings:
Boom Boom and Pom Pom
Big Blooper thing (Super Paper Mario, Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario Origami King, one of those)
Hooktail
King Bob-omb
King Boo
Thwomp King
Bouldergeist
Petey Pirahna
Kamek
Some sort of Eyerock or the guy from the Inverted Pyramid
Goomboss
Mole boss from Mario Galaxy
Reznor :)
Wiggler(s)
King Kaliente
Metal clown from 3d world
Some sort of Shy Bandit, Nabbit, or the like
Dragon from odyssey (not practical, but it was awesome in Odyssey!)
Maybe some Hammer Bro duels or something, idk
Technically not real (from Super Mario Bros. 2):
Tryclyde
Mouser
Wart
Plot-Changers:
Any main villians from Super Paper Mario, any broodal, 90% of enemies in Mario and Luigi games, such as the shroobs
i feel like a cool idea instead of having a fun house or circus for lemmy, have it be luigis mansion all filled with koopas and stuff instead of ghosts
I'm not particularly great with coming up with stories but I would love to see what this game could bring to the table with a more unique story!
When you brought up the Koopalings returning it made me shake my head no, but after hearing you out about how they would control different Kingdoms (I love Bowser Jr controlling Yoshis Island) I was sold!
The Paper Mario series had good stories and nice NPC. We need that kind of stuff in the main series.
I've been wanting this game for some years and it's nice to see someone making concepts for it
I could definitely see an unlockable game mode where after you rescue Princess Peach you play as Peach herself to rescue Mario.
Or as Mario you have to rescue all your friends and then you can play as them. Each one with their perks and weaknesses like in Super Mario Bros. 2
@@SalamiSelimboAnother way to fast travel? You mean like the WARP WHISTLE???
2:36 I think power-ups should work like the life mushroom in galaxy, but instead of adding on to your health, it more so serves as a way to tell the player how many hits they can take before losing the power up (like how you traditionally lose power ups in most mario games).
Good idea. I've even been reconsidering my health count that I brought up in the video; maybe instead of 8 hit points, Mario has 5 in this, with each power up adding 3 hits until Mario loses it.
We need to have a big Bowser Junior fight if he’s gonna be taking over Yoshi’s Island. Either through a power up or Kemek.
I feel like Isle Delphino would make for a good basis for an open world. It’s already set up so that you can see how each area is supposed to connect, so they just need to build off of that by allowing traversal in between areas and creating new areas in between.
It could be like Super Mario 3D World but instead of walking on a map he could walk in a real world.
I would love more elaboration on the idea, so far it’s really good!
I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO SEE SOMEONE DO THIS!!!
There's tons of ways to execute this concept, and I like this! I've seen so many ideas in the comments and I love how creative everyone is.
This one’s cool, though what would be the incentive to return to other areas.
And have the wario bros as one of the main grunts of mini bosses in the post game arena
@@sahilhossain8204 I was thinking of having Wario and Waluigi
Interesting idea but I feel that will be too big for post game
Just curious, How would you like to play a 3D platform / fighter Mario game? Would you like it or nah?
The only "fighting game" I've played is Smash, which isn't even a traditional fighting game, so if a Mario one came out I'd probably only play it if it looked really unique in some way.
I agree, cause I always thought it would be cool to see Mario fight and have a darker tone in his games like it is in smash.
It’s about time someone brought this up!! THANK YOU!!!
this is so simple and plays it safe but honestly that’s the perfect step for a completely open world mario game
That's why I made it that way lol
For the powwr ups:
Mario has 6 hp, getting it to 3 hp left makes you become small mario, a power up adds 3 hp to your health bar, get hit 3 times and the health bar returns to 6 and you become big mario
I agree. The script of this video was made prior to the announcement of Wonder, and mine does indeed pale a little in comparison.
Great video it's always nice to see another person who enjoys open world games
What if Mario only has 5 health, when he goes under 3 he becomes little, when he gets a power up he gets 5 additional health and when that goes out Mario returns to normal and loses his way to replinish the 5 health from the power up
That could be interesting; just from a personal standpoint I would prefer there being no small Mario but I could see Nintendo going that direction.
Now this is some quality content. Keep it up and you'll get big
When I was looking at the backgrounds of Mario Wonder, I wanted THAT to be an open world!
Losing power-ups should probably be similar to how losing abilities works in kirby games
I swear I’d buy this when it comes out if it ever becomes a game , you got me so excited I’m so hopeful if Nintendo ever does make a open world game , amazing video btw :-)
the power meter might work better for an open world mario game! rather than mario losing his item once we get hit and having to backtrack to get the power up again if we wanted it xD
we need the propeller mushroom. ayyy yoshi's island and isle delfino!! mario sunshine my fav 3d mario game. we need the koopa bros from paper mario as a mini boss!! the whomp king, king kaliente, kingfish for sure in the ocean somewhere. bouldergeist, the ruined dragon. would be also really cool if the world had some mario kart tracks scattered around some time of racing mini games would be cool!! amazing video!!
i havent played bowsers fury yet but now i reallly wanna haha
acutally i havent beaten mario odyssey i need to get on that as well!!
Am I the only one that wants to see FLUDD return as a power-up?
An open world Mario game makes me imagine, like open world Zelda, Speedrunner Mario skipping all the star gathering and heading straight to Bowser to kick his ass.
mario odyessy in the corner:
Adding Shy Guy Falls from Mariokart as a location would be a great idea, you could even maybe buy items there
I like that, maybe Yoshi falls too (I think that's the name of the DS course)!
If you have a power up, you gain an extra health system, and when that ‘dies’, you lose the power up
Lore of How an Open World Super Mario Bros. Game Could Work momentum 100
I want to imagine that the cape would functionally be more similar to the wing cape as in you can really gain height, but swooping up and down can still gain speed and keep you in the air but won't let you go higher than when you started.
Yeah that's what I was thinking, which is basically how the cape worked in Super Mario World.
Yeah the wing cap was already a 3D version of the cape feather
this would be the perfect 3D mario game for the cape power-up from smw to make a return in
great job man wish the video was a bit longer! awesome ideas
That's something I'll look into, but we'll see. I'm no storyteller so I may not be the guy to make a plot out of this lol
Why would being open-world make it the "ultimate" Mario game? Being open-world doesn't make things better.
I'm somewhat surprised they haven't already tried smth like this it would work so well with the Mario universe
id love to see your take on a hypothetical direct sequel to super Mario RPG as opposed to spiritual sequels like the paper Mario series or the Mario and luigi series
If it also had a way to incorporate existing mario kart tracks, that would make the whole world very immersive and would give a sense of all the games being connected.
Imma gonna back to this video when it happens
Great content! Greetings from Italy!
Thank you, nice to have you!
Liked + subbed
(Would be a good idea to link Wolffe's channel in the description until his follow-up video comes out btw so we remember to come back to it)
Oh that's true, I totally forgot to link it! My bad.
i had an idea for how powerups could work: they are permanent and one obtains eatch after eatch boss, with you having the ability to switch between them at any moment for puzzle and fighting, for an example you could be in a enemy room with enemies from afar so you use the fire flower to attack them, then turn into cat to go over some walls and then turn into normal mario to fix a pipe with your big ol' hammer to let a current go through and get a start
That could definitely be interesting and a new approach at using power ups! Wolffe hasn't worked on his video much yet but he had the same idea as you when it comes to fixing pipes and such for traversing!
Im in love with this. Amazing thinking cheif! ❤ hopefully that's what will see next for Mario :)
I think that could be somewhere on Yoshi's Island; that's a fun idea and a unique reference to Wario Land
Very cool!
Instead of just having bowser as the only main villain, I would love to see a team up between him and Wart from Mario Bros 2.

I miss the cape feather. Speaking of it, I guess SMW was kinda open world. You could enter the Star road in the donut plains and go straight to bowser
Mario really doesn't need to be open world
4:35 "Or even how a crafting system could be used-"
NOOOOOOOOOO
Wow, interesting video!
I'm literally working on a Mario Open World project, but in 2D. I don't know if it's a good thing or not, but I've already planned (and implemented) some of the ideas you mentioned in the video. I've also got a few more ideas but... I can't say anything, no spoilers 🤫
I hope to be able to show this project one day!
Awesome! After seeing the trailer for Super Mario Bros. Wonder and seeing the "You got a Wonder Seed!" text, I really hope they're thinking of going that direction.
I'm interested in that video btw, so I'll be looking out for it!
Would love to see what it will turn out to be. Sounds awesome.
Interesting, I’ve also got a similar ish thing with a few friends, though it is mostly spritework, I hope to see or hear more in future
Mario galaxy already did this with the powerups and a health meter
Bee mushroom, spring mushroom, boo mushroom, cloud mushroom, rock mushroom, etc.
Idk how big a fan of other Nintendo/Nintendo-like franchises, but this seems to be your biggest video yet. If you want to continue bringing views to your channel, maybe make a follow up to this video.
Some ideas could include:
Open World Kirby Game
Open World DK Game
What a future Open World Zelda might look like?
They attemped it in Bowser's fury, i could see a comeback from it though
I've been thinking about an open world Mario game for a while now, I think it could be genuinely interesting.
We should definitely have king bomb omb back as a mini boss
Did the other guy never post his video?
The cape power up could be a glider type of thing
Where's Wolf's video?
Unfortunately he's been very busy lately so it may be quite a while until he's able to work on it. My apologies.
I enjoyed SMG and SM64 because there are so many different themes and the worlds don't get boring after a while because you don't stay in one world that long
Great vid and idea
I can imagine that Nintendo will eventually make an open world sandbox Mario game like bowsers fury.
Since it could have lots of Easter eggs, Troll moments, An Awesome Soundtrack and many many more.
However I can see that happening when Nintendo reveals like a whole new console in the year 2026 or 2030
I think that peach wont be the one imprisoned anf its up to peach and mario to rescue: toad, luigi, daisy and yoshi would be locked up:
After completing the main story more puzzles would appear, those require the new characters:
Toad: can fit into small spaces, runs fast, low hp & attack power
Luigi: jumps higher like in smb2, same damage as mario but doesnt run well
Daisy: can float like peach for longer, low hp, low damage, high jump
Yoshi: flutter jump, tongue, mario hp, slow run, damage makes yoshi run faster, no powerups are able to be used
Interesting!
Donkey Kong playable when you free him since he can use power ups too as shown in the movie?
Maybe more unlockable characters in some of the other areas with each being unique like in Mario 64 DS or Mario 3D World?
If we got a new character in each world I'm thinking:
- Toad in Peach's Castle/ Toad Town
- Luigi in the Haunted Mansion of course
- DK on his island
- Yoshi on his island
- Rosalina in the Ice Mountains (she's from space but rosalina had an Ice track in Mario kart 7 so there’s that)
- Wario on the Dessert Ruins
- Peach on Bowser's Castle
- Daisy on Delphino or Bay (?)
- Waluigi on the Canyon (?)
I don't know who else could be playable, Pauline is there but having to come up to unique movesets IDK, maybe it would be Toadette.
I really like these ideas for a new Mario if one like this ever happens
i think having the giant eel be either a repeatable set encounter or a chance encounter either near or when your passing over water. possibly a last ditch effort from bowser to get mario while he makes it over to the castle other than that maybe an area with the giant wigglers aswell.
Oooh, great idea! Giant Bloopers could be a thing in the water as well!
great vid
Look it’s the guy that made a game in total isolation
Thanks!!
Movements always been fun for me in open world games
Finally I will rest my unqualified back-seating by suggesting a mushroom sky-based area. It’s never complete without one.
Needless to say this video was amazing and I feel like it’s a thought that crosses every Mario fans head once in a while
Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the sky! A sky area that's spread out across the map similar to Skyward Sword or TotK would be really cool imo
I would make the main-collectible make something like this:
You can go whereever you want in every possible order in this world, except of the final boss.
The power ups could add an extra 3 points to Mario, if you lost the 3 extra points you go back to normal Mario
Sonic already did this so I'm surprised Mario has not even attempted it.
Hey, they've both got 2D games coming out this year, maybe they'd like to have a couple open world games coming out in a couple years!
@vutwindowsxptwo5348 That isn't an open world game.
@Wasserkaktus What’s the difference between odyssey and an open world game?
Metal Mario would make an awesome secret boss.
I think mario should have six health or four with an additional two when he has a power up, for example: he is at 5/6 or 6/6 health when he has a power up. 3/6 or 4/6 health is without a power up. And you are mini mario at 1/6 or 2/6.
This is amazing, well done!
Thank you very much!
