    Also, the BCP KILLS it when it comes to streaming, offering WAY more than any other card (side eyes Propel). The list of accepted services is impressive. We have Netflix, HBO Now, Spotify/Hulu, Disney+ and Audible, and even separate purchases through Audible receive the 6% back! This is THE CARD for Tauruses who just want to stay at home and consume content (and groceries).

    Great video, Sebby. What is the correct way to calculate the rate of return when the $95 annual fee is factored in if you spend the $6000 in groceries for the year? I plan on using the BCP just for groceries. I came up with 5.9% as follows: $6000 x 6% = $360 statement credits. I then added the $6000 in grocery expense and the $95 annual fee together because that is my investment. I then divided the $360 by the $6095 investment.
    $360/$6095 = 5.9%
    Is this correct? If so, that is a very good rate of return.

    I used to have the Amex BCE but then I read a blog that put the BCE vs BCP into terms that clicked with me. In short, with BCP, need to spend $32/week in groceries to pay for the annual fee. With BCP, need to spend $64/week in groceries to break even with the BCE. Everything above $64/week is 6% gravy, plus 6% back on Spotify, TH-cam Premium, etc.
    However, I have found what looks like a loophole. Apple Music and TH-cam Premium are eligible for 6% cash back. I have discovered that in-app purchases in iOS and Google Play also get 6% cash back. So paying for a Super Chat for a YT streamer appears to get 6% cash back.

      Yes, x < 0.06 when:
      x = (0.06s - $95) / s
      where s = spend (capped at $6,000)
      Same way how Costco prices are "technically" not accurate since you -- for most items -- need a Costco membership.

    • @DugrozReports
      @DugrozReports 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's true that the max "effective" cash back when looking only at grocery is roughly 4.6% when the AF is factored in. However, I'd argue (strongly) that it doesn't mean the BCP is a bad choice. It all depends on how you spend and other cards you have.

    Yes, I have this card. In theory its a good card, in practice at the 5 places I shop for groceries, 1 just doesn't take American Express and 2 others are not classified as grocery stores. I'm going for the PenFed 5% on gas and 3% for groceries in a Visa card that is good at most all places I shop for groceries.
    As a 'relationship with American Express card', I'm going to try out the Wells Fargo Propel with American Express and see how that does.
