I had to revise my comment because I do realize sadly some cars don’t come with jacks and wrenches but.. word of advice, always cover the surrounding area (fender, bumper, etc.). Even plasti dip becomes extremely hard to remove when it’s not a thick layer. Plasti dio overspray is as hard to remove as tar spray.
Chris Golden the reason most people keep there’s on when using a spray can is because they’d have to prop up the wheel anyway so they can shoot straight and not pointed down

Thank you taking your time to show us your method and techniques. I was wondering why you put the spray can bottles in a bucket of water. Is that warm water? Does this help with the plastic consistency? I have never done coating, and I am new, but want to explore this option. Thanks again.
The right way is you should mask the rim emblem perfectly round with painters tape then peel it off when dry, that's how I did mine and it looks better showing the emblem. 2nd you should mask the tire so there's no paint residue on the tire they will flake off when dried and it looks ugly. 3rd you should also cover your car paint next to your tire, the over spray paint will stick to the paint since your car is white, over spray is more obvious, the over spray paint will come off but it's more work taking them out and sometimes from scrubbing too much it'll leave a scratch on the paint.
I would've covered the center caps and the tires and stuffed more plastic inside of the wheel for extra protection. And showing the end result would help. My only question is should each wheel take one whole can?
"The right way" my ass. This is the "It's half-assed but still looks nice" method. even if the back of the wheel doesn't show, the dip will last longer if you paint the whole wheel because just painting the front leaves a seam half way that can allow for brake dust, etc. to eventually get under the dip. Plus the overspray. Plus you're painting at strange angles to get the wole wheel and it's harder to see some spots. Plus you're spraying the lug nuts so good luck fitting the right socket on those.
Use rubbing alcohol to take the oils of the cleaner off. Take the rims off the car. Deflate tires if you can’t take them off. Remove center cover. Use real paint because spray on plasti dip will peel and crack remove wheel weights because dip will just bridge it leaving air to bubble. Just a few recommendations if we’re talking the right way
I got a 1990 Volvo 760 and the rims are a pain to clean when we had them white. It has like 30 small spokes and brake dust made it look horrible, we took it off and we're switching to black so it looks mean instead of classy
The point of plasti dip is to temporarily change the color of your wheels and overall protect the original rim from any further road damage. If you were permanently changing the color of the rims then yes, painting the inside of the rim would be necessary. But you get the exact same results doing it either way. And you can see on our Instagram page @throwsomediponit.

Yea as long as you’ve got solid coverage you’re good. Plastidip isn’t like regular paint. It’s pretty thick stuff. One to two coats of it is like equivalent to spraying 5-6 coats of regular water based paint. Plastidip is a solvent based sprayable rubber. It’s not paint really at all.

The right way would be to take them off and get them powder coated, which is still removable and is 1,000,000,000x more durable than Plasti dip. But ok.
My rims have damaged spots where the previous owner hit a curb. If I wanted to do this, would I sand them and put the puddy on and primer them before I dipped them or would I have to paint them as well before I dip them?
yes dont waste your time with plasti dip on wheels, Ive done it 3 times and no matter how well you prep or how many coats you use it WILL come off or peel
I took off my 4 wheels, started in the morning to be able to get them max sun exposure to dry them, put around 10 coats on it, put them back on car and maybe in a month or two it started to peel, but only in the areas where there is curve/angle less then around 90 degrees. In those areas it started to create bubbles. The flat surface areas, the plastidip is fine and dandy. If you want a permanent paint coat, I would suggest to avoid plastidip and just get some permanent paint which is what I am thinking of doing soon to fix the wheels.
I am Perfection alot of people who say good things about dip are mainly people who don't even daily drive the damn car or let alone drive it more than 6000 miles a year. How many cans did you use? I have 2, should I get 1 more? And how do I get the glossy look?
☆кυωαιтι - єαgℓє☆ i think you should get one more just incase , I only used like 60 percent of each of the four cans I have , I didn't go for the glossy look and went just for the matte look (: so I didn't apply anything else
How long do you wait between coats and before you're able to drive on the rims
If it’s kinda hot outside only about 3 minutes between each coat
The right way would be to take them off and get them powder coated, which is still removable and is 1,000,000,000x more durable than Plasti dip. But ok.
People like to hate, I appreciate the conten., You did a good job explaining the coats needed. Thanks much.
BMW drivers be like
" i BoUGhT NiCE cAr so NoW IAm meCHanIC"
You can mess up a dip job and still make it look good. Unless you're doing it for a car show or something.
This is like The Verge's video on how to build a computer.
This needs more likes
I reported this video as “spam or misleading”
Does the overspray just come off of the wheels or do you need to cut it?
I over sprayed I think and it dripped/smudged fml🤦🏼♂️
My rims have damaged spots where the previous owner hit a curb. If I wanted to do this, would I sand them and put the puddy on and primer them before I dipped them or would I have to paint them as well before I dip them?
My boy plastidiped half the tires as well 😂😂
Ensures longer tire life
The tires are black anyway
Nice job, but I would of masked of the bmw center cap and that would have looked alot more better but they still look nice though
The right way would be removing the wheel and tire for my car
Awesome work! Do you use a special cleaner for wiping down the wheels before spraying them?
how durable is this, will it come off as it drive and stuff hit the wheels.
yes dont waste your time with plasti dip on wheels, Ive done it 3 times and no matter how well you prep or how many coats you use it WILL come off or peel
It all depends on how and where you drive your car. All I heard was good things about dipping
ilovevipers101492 thx for that info, was thinking about doing it on my E90, think I'll fall back
I took off my 4 wheels, started in the morning to be able to get them max sun exposure to dry them, put around 10 coats on it, put them back on car and maybe in a month or two it started to peel, but only in the areas where there is curve/angle less then around 90 degrees.
Trust me that dip sucks paint or even the cheapest vinyl wrap is better. Only place dip holds up is emblems and spoiler and thats it
How many cans did you use for each rim? I'm going to be using this method but rather get the right amount. (17" rims)
I wonna know if power wash remove them
"Plasti dip your rims the right way" ...oxymoron.
Getto way
No...... Just a Moron
Did you paint the barrel? And how come you didn't protect your tired
Looks real good, nice car, I'm picking up my CTS coupe in 4 days, can't wait to dip the rims
Ktonrider that's gonna look sick!
Thanks Man!!!!
Ktonrider did u get it?
If it's not a CTS V then u wack
Don’t kid yourself,Your not picking up anything
Will these get scuffed peeled easily from driving on highway?
djmocok no, they're real durable and stand up to most road conditions. Check out my Instagram: instagram.com/throwsomediponit
Thanks
Good shit bro gonna dip the rims on my 325 now
The plasti dip, do we need to re apply after some months or years or its till the car die??
1. tires still on the car. 2. didnt protect the tire itself.
Angela Cassano dude I cringed to this entire video
Do u take out the lugs or can u leave them there?
You can leave them on, and can remove the dip off of them after if you prefer.
Lmao this is totally the wrong way, wmif you want your rims plasti dip the correct way the whole rim has to be painted hence the wheel comes off, unless you don't mind being a ricer😂
Why on earth would you leave the wheel on the car to do this? Takes 5 mins to take it off.
Because not everyone has jack stands ;)
What makes your way, the "right" way? You sprayed the lug nuts, and center caps...
Does it come off or does it stay like that for a very long time?
I think "The Right Way" would be taking them off the car
Thinking about doing this to my chally, it's already black, but it does have some scuffs and chips... maybe fill them out first. And fully clean it.
Follow the steps in this video and you will be good. Plasti Dip is the most forgiving "paint-like" material out there. Check out my Instagram (instagram.com/throwsomediponit).
That track is tight nice video
Hey buddy what brand of plasti dip and glosser u used for the rims
jakob get 3-4ish doing it like this
jakob no dumbass
DrinkWaterMo. Not be songs
So does plasti dip come off If water gets on it or is there a specific type of plasti dip that is waterproof?
Laughoutcereal plasti dip dries and holds up like regular paint. it can stand up to almost all road conditions.
I feel like I just watched a graffiti video. That can play and wrist movements
