Fans of the IJN always lead with Yamato but, as the US always leads with Enterprise, the best fighting ships were the Shokakus, particularly Zuikaku which , with her sister, won the only undisputed carrier battle (Santa Cruz), fought a battle where higher ups threw away a victory (Coral Sea). Zuikaku also played a sacrificial role at Leyte Gulf but that was also thrown away by Adm Kurita off Samar. Frankly the Axis Capital ships of all three major belligerents were mostly disappointments with Scharnhorst , Gneisenau and Bismarck being exceptions
The kriegsmarine did a lot with what they had, because the difference in size with the royal navy was immense. And you can't really blame axis battleships, because the allied ones didn't do much either apart from patroling and shore bombardment.
Uss Washington destroyed the IJN Kirishima and Royal Navy battleships Duke of York, King George V, Rodney and particularly the Grand Old Lady HMS Warspite performed w3ith distinction@@hashteraksgage3281
Japanese ships had a kinda dead on arrival issue with a lot of technicalities. Subpar anti air defense, lack of proper medium anti air batteries, subpar radar equipment if any which lead to certain heavy losses, especially during the night. The IJN Kirishima suffered a fatal unexpected blow by the USS Washington in a night battle exposing her wide open when she was supposed to be concealed by the night, which turned fatal as the Radar of the local US Battlefleet had keen eyes on them. The Shokaku class was mostly out of service for a long period after the action in the Coral Sea, scoring the scuttling of the Lexington. The true unsung hero after the battle of midway however would have been the efforts of a light carrier the Zuihou which bought enough time around Guadalcanal holding the line, until the Shokakus were ready to re enter. Fire control systems on the contrary were pretty advanced for their time. However their lack of autoloading mechanisms on screening vessels meant a secured loss in a gun battle. In the end their lack of industrial prowess and ressources to utilize in a short amount of time was the final straw however, if there was any chance to begin with. In my honest opinion the Atago remains the most beautiful japanese ship to me, aswell as the Fuso. Also we cant compare Kriegsmarine and Imperial Japanese Navy ships that well, both were built with entirely different doctrines in mind and built for different waters. Kriegsmarine ships were never built with the intention of a fleet in being, but for raider fleet tactics. They simple did hit and run and tried to lure away the allied primary fleets for convoy hunting. Thats what the Scharnhorst and Bismarck mostly did, until they well didnt.
Since the Zuiho was knocked out early at Santa Cruz, the Zuikaku and the Junyo held the line. The beauty of the Fuso is an 'eye of the beholder' type of thing as I've seen it described as the ugliest ship of the IJN- lest you think I'm being critical I personally am fascinated by the photos of the converted Ise and Hyuga. so yeah@@SWSagume
Kinda wild how a country can come out of total isolation for 700 years, rapidly industrialize in under 70 years, and nearly destroy the most populated country in the world, and rival the most powerful country in the world. For all the evils committed by the Empire after the fall of the Shogunate, you gotta respect their resolve and commitment. Shogunate was a lot worse anyway
Ah! The photo at 3:15. The Mitsubishi G4M bomber skimming the sea on the far left. The pilot is Mr. Jun Takahashi. He survived the war and even in his 90s, he was flying a Cessna. I'll also include the URL of the interview video from that time. Unfortunately, on December 7, 2021. It seems the cause of death was old age. Ah! Das Foto bei 3:15. @@Kingofsea7591 They could have gotten the US out of the war if they have built multiple carriers instead of the Yamato-class battleships.
this fits perfectly with sailing the Yamato in world of warships
1:07 the part when the music just hits hard. Remind me of the emperor and his army of samurai and also a shogun
Beautiful

The only thing I don't like about BS-M is that Kaga is falsely classified as Akagi's Sister.
