Honestly if they didn’t strain their men so far and in between (Island Hopping) they would have had a better chance. It was hard to send fresh men to send so many islands that were so far from one another and the US was ripping through them left and right. Their best chances were at Midway and Pelilu, and maybe Okinawa, but they had some very egotistical and prideful generals that were their downfall. People should not take this as a terrible movie... It has a love twist, that we may find unnecessary, but women like that stuff, they made a movie that couples could watch together. My girlfriend had never seen the movie before and while this is a war movie, she really enjoyed, even the combat phases, she was hooked, and the historical look of the machines used are great to flavor our thirst for WW2 content. Japanese is epicly beautiful here, I feel like drinking a cup of sake, tying a headband to my forehead then eradicating the corrupt politicians of my country.

I really like to root for the underdog in any story, but I also have to keep in mind that the under dog in this story was conducting human experimentation and replacing European imperialism with something even worse.
