I live in southern Louisiana and I had Citizens. They cancelled my hurricane coverage 2 months before hurricane season. Seriously?!

I had an Ormond Beach Home during the Hurricane Irma. I had a 70 year roof with a warranty. The adjustor called for a new roof and paid for one. The roofing company that installed the 70 year roof came out and fixed the issues under warranty for free. The entire transaction was such a fiasco. Ultimately, I had to fight the Mortgage company to get the money the Insurance company couldn't get rid of fast enough. In the time I spent in Florida from 2014 - 2024, I learned that Florida is likely the MOST corrupt State in the Nation. Everything is sex and drugs and fraud. The lawyers are running the table.

Why did you file an insurance claim if your issues were being covered under warranty? Why didn't you just allow your mortgage company apply the money to your principal?

So you got the repairs done for free and you still wanted to cash the check? That’s insurance fraud and the exact reason people have to fight about getting their money is because of scammers like YOU!

There is NO INSURANCE COMPANY that covers floods. A flood is OUTSIDE water entering the house. Only way to get coverage for that is from the Govt. They sell FLOOD insurance. If you ever have a pipe brekl or water from INSIDE the house, NEVER call and say you had a FLOOD. You have WATER DAMAGE! The words matter, a LOT! If you say flood, even though you mean water damage they might deny the claim.. at least at first. READ your policy!! Ask what it covers when you buy it!!

Check out TN on the Cumberland Plateau between Cookeville and Knoxville; little in the way of weather or disaster threats, you can get modest housing for cheap, my property taxes are $200 a YEAR. Insurance on 3 bd 2bth house on 1/3 acre (2002 double wide on its own lot) is $900 a year. My overall housing costs with no mortgage are around $500 a month when the heating costs are the highest.

This happened to me ! Chase Bank refused to cash my FIGA insurance settlement check. Three long weeks of BS stories and excuses led me to file a complaint with the FL Attorney Generals Office. That led to an OK to my local branch to cash the check. Then the branch couldn't access the OK to clear the check ! Beware of these so called mortgage holders who make you realize you are nothing but a renter ! My advice ? Get your money somehow , fix your property, sell it for whatever you can get, then LEAVE Florida as I am doing ! Where in the hell are our governor and lawmakers?

Doesn’t the insurance check go to your mortgage company after you get it…then they release it to you AFTER you prove to them the work has been done! Actually they release the money directly to your contractor, not you……..and if there’s any ‘extra’ they simply keep the money….and do not apply it to your mortgage…they just keep the money….thats what happened to me…the $10,000 I got to pay for damaged furniture and personal items the mortgage company just kept…free money to them!
