  • Hello Viewers
This year has been crazy for me. Just recently, a very good friend of mine offered to take me on a cab ride in CRRX 403. I for sure said yes. I drove to Canon City and caught the arrival of the 9am breakfast train returning back to the depot. After walking around for a bit, it was time to walk over to the locomotive. I climbed the ladder to the B unit and walked through both the A and B unit. I then walked into the cab, and what a view it has. I sat down and go my camera stuff ready, also taking in the sounds and vibrations of the locomotive. It had the low rumble with the spirts of air from the air reservoirs. We chatted for a while and then it was time to depart town. After leaving town, we get to hear the locomotive at work. I also got to quickly blow the horn at about the 34 minute mark. I blew a warning sequence to let the rafting photographers know of an oncoming train. After we stopped at Parkdale, we performed some braking tests and maneuvers. I then walked all the way to the other end of the train, and rode in 3104. I didn't get as many clips of the eastbound trip because the views are mostly the same, plus I just wanted to sit back and enjoy it. And boy did I! After a pleasant trip east, we arrive back at the depot and the trip is complete. This by far is the best thing I've ever done, and recommend it to anyone into trains. This experience also helped me on a professional standpoint, because it allowed me to see my potential future work environment. Anyways, that is it, and I hope you enjoy it. I do apologize for the shaking, the tripod I was using is terrible but it got the job done. Thank you for watching, and Ill see you next time. Joint Line Railfan out-

I love this train! The diesels are no exception either.

It was interesting to see how the engineer made throttle adjustments base on how far down the track he could see. Essential technique for areas with high probabilities of rock falls.

It was that and also the grades on our section of the pass range from 1.5 to 2 percent and they change throughout the route. So that plus a 17 car train equals toying with the throttle. But you are right

Crossed the Gorge in 1962 - was and still am, very impressed, took the inclinded rail down to the River & of course went a 1,000 feet across the bridge also it was a 1,000 feet straight down to the river. There is the bridge, which we drove across in our car.

Awesome cab & operation footage! Just hearing the sound of the F units on the headend brings me back to so many early memories from watching the America by Rail series featuring this railroad. My personal favorite horn was the All bells forward M5 that the #402 wore back around 2000. I really wish I knew the heritage of it because it sounded angelic during the time.

Awesome, glad you enjoyed! You should definitely visit again, because the Royal Gorge is going to have new locomotives on the front pretty soon. Cheers

402 is unfortunately just a parts horse. It probably wont run ever again

Cab Ride looked fun! I'm planning to take a trip there in July, hoping to either book the Vista Dome, or Cab Ride.

I wonder what happened to F7#402. Because 403 and the B unit just doesn't look right to me :(

    • @jointlinerailfan403

So 402 has been deemed out of service. Which means the likelyhood of it running ever again is slim to none. Currently 403 and the B unit are our only functioning F units

    Interesting one. Thanks.
For those who are not from USA would more info be appreciated. I was struggling to find the route info: both in your video or at train official site.
    Starting point? Where it goes?
    Finally I found it.
    Beautiful nature.
However - I would not like to make any comment about the train.
    Cheers from Europe.
