I spotted that 'K. Smith' on the grid and realised that he is, in fact, the same Ken Smith who *still* races the New Zealand Grand Prix (now in the Toyota Racing Series) to this day. He'll compete in the 2021 GP at the age of 79
Dude, you're spoiling the hell out of us. As someone who only cares about historical sim racing, watching your backlog during the lockdown was a shining light during a very dark year. Suddenly having a video nearly every day has been overwhelming (in a good way). Just try not to burn yourself out, man.
This man is spoiling us, Good to see someone doing a Tasman Season. Not many sim racers give it much attention. I’m looking forward to the Lakeside race
Ferrari didn’t participate in Tasman until ‘68, when he was convinced by Amon to do so. Amon got a car, a Dino 166 F2 ‘67 chassis joined with a Dino 246 engine from the ‘66 season 😉 the version used by Bandini at Monaco and Spa, and Scarfiotti at Nurburgring
Brilliant! When I did the Tasman Series with one of the older carsets in GPL I replaced Pukehoke with Ardmore, which held the NZ GP until 1962. Great stuff nonetheless!
Amazing to see you Sir not only back in fashion, but also to see again the good ol' Jake starting series after years of waiting! If I was you I'd also consider as a sequel the GPL 1968 Champ or otherwise (I talk as a sportcars of the past fan) the 1967 World Sportcars Championship. That would be amazing Sir. What do you think?
I’m seriously excited for this (currently still watching) but Lakeside is one I’m seriously looking forward too, Fast with nasty elevation and camber in the last corner with Sub minute laps potentially.
Just as a note - Pukekohe is pronounced POOK (rhymes with "book")- A - Ko- Hee Maori and Japanese share a pronunication scheme, so if you can say it in Japanese you can say it in Maori :)
I mean, with Romaji, the ke would be like kay or keh, and the he would be similar. Though one of the reasons they're similar is probably that the Romanisation was made to try to follow the pronunciation of Latin characters closer to Latin than English.
Definitely surprised that no one has done a Pukekohe mod for GPL. I will note, for 1963-66, the first 4 years of the circuit, it was the 2.2-mile layout at Pukekohe, and I really don't know if any sim has that version of the circuit.
Leo Geoghegan (pronounced Gay gan). A well known Australian driver, who raced at Bathurst with his brother Ian. As an aside, Longford exists in rFactor, rFactor 2, GTL & GTR 2.
I’m psyched that you’re doing the Tasman Series! Most of the tracks that it went to still exist, unfortunate that Pukekohe isn’t in GP Legends because it’s very unique compared to the kind of track that GP drivers would go to at that time.
hay bro I'm a kiwi and ive raced there and you can find a pukekohe version in v8 supercars game 1,2and 3 and it was called race driver in other parts of the world but it still miss turn 2 and 3 from the Tasman series in the 60s so ya this is kind of like it but not really.. and it's a horse race course like Sandown in australia..with the race circuit around the out side..
Disappointing that New Zealand tracks aren't in more games, they're all a blast to drive. Also competing against Ken Smith in the race. Because the NZGP has been running in other categories over the years (F5000, Toyota Racing Series, and a few more) 2021 will be his 50th attempt at the race, true NZ racing legend.
1 week to get from SA to NZ no wonder Jack didn't make it initially. you need to edit the gplai66.ini or whatever it is called, as usual the ai has 10-15 kph up on our physics.

Also a mentor to Scott Dixon, Brendon Hartley and many other current generation Kiwi drivers.
That’s awesome, just read he started racing in 1958, that’s before senna was born and he’s still competing
He's such a legend!
His 50th New Zealand Grand Prix in 2021, true Kiwi Legend
I'm intending on attending it as well!

Indeed! 🏆

And we still have Can Am Sports 67 and who knows what more! 😎

One of the only TH-camrs whose every video I watch front to back, so you giving us these daily uploads is incredible.
I remember playing GPL in junior high and just struggling haha....it's a joy to watch this again! Well done :)
Woot woot! Another Aussie here pumped for this series!

Ha ha ha yup, was going to mention the same thing I wasnt sure if he was taking the piss or didnt know. Follow kiwi here man, hello from Palmy north

@@n8pls543 what? Are you a New Zealander. Do you know any of the Maori language
One of the interesting names K smith, Kenny Smith is still racing today and has mentored several others racers eg Scott Dixon.
Gplaps you're the best can't get it enough of your videos! The best sim racing content in youtube!
That looks to me a reversed version of the Albi circuit in France
It's DEFINITELY a mirror Albi.
Yes indeed, no secrets is Ilba, Pukekohe doesnt exist for GPL
@@GPLaps luckily going reversed makes T1 much easier than the normal way around.
@@GPLaps It does now! Released februari 2021

Hell yes, Jake is tackling the Tasman Series! As an Aussie, this is going to be awesome.
As a kiwi I'm pretty pumped myself! Hell yeah!

What made it unique?
As a kiwi i really appreciate this
I wish we had a motorsport scene like this today
duuude i love your videos, so dope!!! love those cars, love gp legends, background music in the intro is nice too!

Love your channel. Love NZ and OZ as well.
This has to be the most fun name of any track ever.
Leo Geoghegan is pronounced "Gay-ya-gan" he was a great racer down here in Aus, very talented touring car driver too.
Thank you!
No worries 🙂
Considering how Pukekohe remains New Zealand’s premier racing circuit to the present day, I’m surprised a GPL mod of the track doesn’t exist.
It does now, released februari 2021

What's the name of the background song you used on the video?
Geoghegan. Pronounced Gay-gan. Good driver from Australia. Him and his brother Pete were real good steerers.
This is actually the Albi circuit in reverse. Albi is a real circuit located in France - not a fictional one.
Would we be able to get you to do a video with how you have your game set up - ie which mods/base copy of the game you use yada yada?
Does GPLaps have a video that goes into how to get GPL running in 2020?
Just go here for what you want

Or here: www.gplworld.de/en/grand-prix-legends/gpl-easy-installation-guide
You made me buy GPL lmao thank you
Looks a biiit like symmons plains in tasmania.
So there are tacks that do not exist in GPL?
Check out GPL track data base!
Marmite or Vegemite?
New Zealand or New Holland?
Will Richie be Able to conquer the Tasman series...
Jake were did you find Pukekohe? The link I searched is dead. Many thanks!
This is where i got Ilba srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=7049, the updates to make it look more like pukekohe are in the tasman threads
@@GPLaps 👍
I really enjoyed the long duel with the other Lotus!
Btw do you use the clutch on upshifts?
Thank you! Yes I use the clutch on both up and downshifts
@@GPLaps Thanks very much for answering! So I'll fully use the clutch too when I have my simrig ready.
I was 5 years old then

Which Car are you driving in the series? Is it a current Car or an older model?
Im driving the bt11 with the 2.5l Climax engine. Not the fastest car but not the slowest either
Goeghegan is pronounced like Gagan (Gay-gan). It’s an Irish last name.
Game in the intro?
Grand Prix Legends
It's the completely redone Spa67 track for GPL. He shows it off in this video: th-cam.com/video/9r9Y8rgp9N4/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=GPLaps
Premieres at 2am NZ time...
What, no Bathurst??
3:20 No way! My birthday is January 8th lol

Pukekohe is pronounced Pooka-Kohee. The maoris will eat you if they hear how you say it.
