Hi, I came here as a 14 y. o. kid, saw the legendary bike racer Geoff Perry and it really stuck, did motorsport for about 23 years in my new home of Australia as a result, great memor ies so thanks for coming here
Great video, been watching this 66 season as you create it. Enjoyable videos. A small bit of info on some of the tracks, the Levin NZ track was built within the perimeter of the local horse racing facility, hence the compact nature and feel like US short track/oval racing. It was lost when they expanded the horse track facilities. Other circuits in the Tasman Series also were built at horse racing facilities, ie Pukekohe & Sandown, but built on the outside, so still survive today [but for how long]. While Warwick Farm was built where the car track cross over the horse track and through expansion of the horse facilities, a glorious motor racing circuit gone. Anyway, looking forward to more of the Tasman Series.
@@daren42 Oh, that was probably it. He has a video from 2019 there called "1955 F1 R06 British Grand Prix - Grand Prix Legends". He also has a video at Warwick Farm but that was done after this video and comment.
The Tasman Championship, which started in 1964, used the 2.5 litre formula as used by Formula 1 prior to 1961. Hence, it was the fastest road racing in the world prior to the Return To Power in 1966. This formula, known in Australia as Australian National Formula 1 (ANF1) was also used for the Australian Drivers Championship. As such, these beasts used to even race around Mount Panorama, Bathurst, as part of that championship.
I'd like to see your interim point summaries apply the correct tie-breakers -- so after this race, listing Attwood 3rd, Axelson 4th, and Stewart 5th would have been ideal.
I’m glad TH-cam deleted my other account or I wouldn’t of found this gem of a channel. God bless the algorithm and his only begotten son Susan Wojcicki
How did you set up the custom starting grids? I remember playing nascar 2 and I wanted to do the Twin 125s, but I couldn't figure out how to set the 500 grid to match.
There are different ways to do it in each sim. NR2003 has a 'SaveGameEditor' which makes it quite simple. For GPL its also easy but very time consuming. I just wrote a tutorial this morning on how to do it here: srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=13903&hl=
Reminded me of Rallycross. Super short heats and a reasonable, but super short, A final. Although I guess Sprint Cars is similar. If you want a track to do a similar v.short style race series I highly recommend Falkenberg. Excellent layout and a great rendition too. (onboard GPL lap th-cam.com/video/LEXCNFt3biA/w-d-xo.html thanks random YT)
Yup, pretty much all of our dirt track racing here in the US runs under this type of format. A lot of times the starting grids for the heats are set by random draw so that shakes things up even more.
Its all ways abit of laugh hearing an american take a crack at pronouncing place names here. The maori ones are always tricky but even the english names are often said “wrong” haha. Levin is more like “livin” haha

And for those of you from elsewhere, horse racing in Australia and NZ is huuuuge. I guess we just love racing. And punting.
I feel like I've seen him race on a track that crosses over a horse track before.
@@Dethmeister Aintree, I suspect

Car 68 in the pit lane is a Ford Anglia - as seen in the Harry Potter films
Ah! Atleast I got the correct manufacturer though!

I can watch this championship for hours! It's something totally different but so awesome!
the true spirit of GPL is present at this video!! thank you
Great race! I kept finding myself saying "Wait to catch up a little more, you don't have to overtake yet" though.
Cool series! I shall look forward to Longford. I hope you remember where to turn, unlike me...
That’s a Ford Anglia in the pits. (No. 68)
You ve done a great job with the Heat Races format i loved it! I remember raced this track in a 64 car laps under a minute short but fun.
No man a Anglia! Wooooooow so great a race you do.
This was awesome. You are so good to watch!
Nice race, good control, I would have binned it on the first lap probably.
A blast of a new GPL Series, this one! 👍

can you explain what the tie breakers are and where you got the info from?

Yes it is a treat
That was great man well pointed haha!!
It's odd. Attwood's lap was about a second faster than Clark in the heat.
Levin reminds me of Brands Hatch Short Circuit in reverse.

holy moly daily gplaps uploads
my uncle raced in this, D Marwood. pity they turned this track into cheap crappy house's.
Only 3rd? You'll be getting a call from Dr Helmut Marko sooner than latter 😂
Tasman ! I figured 'Finally ! I'll get to see you drive a BRM !'. Nope. Sim racers never show any love towards BRM.
Positions 3,4,5 in your spreadsheet are wrong because of countback rules. Great racing though! Cool track.
how do you mean? can you explain more?
@@GPLaps He means that Attwood should be first since he has a second place, then you because you have a third and then Stewart.

That works, too. I was thinking he needs to find an excuse to race at Amaroo.

Given how long you've been doing this; how is it you're not quicker than the AI??
I make them quick enough to be competitive so its not boring
