I wish the OGs of Pandemic nothing but happiness for all the entertainment and joy they gave me in my childhood. You guys are everything the industry should've been, and I still play quite a few of your timeless gems to this day.
@@liddz434 Indeed! been hoping for years to see a Mercenaries 1 remaster happen, or at least a functional PC version! Army Men RTS, Battlezone, and their battlefronts were games I sunk countless hours into!
I would love to see series of commentaries, in which developers would share their dev stories from the days of SWBF1/2 and 3. Ohhh... wouldn't that be a treat!
OG Battlefront II is a masterpiece that still holds up today. It takes me back to a simpler time when game developers focused on fun first and foremost.
I'm so bored of the blatant nostalgia this game holds over people's objectivity.. how is a game that was forced out the door with a 12 month release schedule in order to coincide with ROTS DVD release and resulted in game assets being used as marketing such as every 501st legion being on every map, complete Temmura Morrison voiceover and the map fun quality taking a severe dive due to needing more PT maps going to be called "focusing on fun first" It could be said for 2004 though.
@@CarterDarter because the game is still a vast improvement over a the good game released in 2004. It would be like if Halo Infinite released feature complete a year after another Halo game that had an inferior forge, a splitscreen that failed to function Infinite had fixed(instead of Infinite giving up) and something instead of a grapnel with a full campaign that was functionally different... And both the games worked.
@carterdarter I think your grievances are fair. If I were to review Battlefront II with a fine tooth comb, I could probably find many areas where the developers took Shortcuts. However, that doesn’t change the fact that I played the crap out of this game back when it came out. I proceeded to play the crap out of this game 10 years later with the boys in college. No micro transactions. no pay to play. No EA tomfoolery. Just simple wholesome fun. I’m sorry if you didn’t have the same experience.
I remember following the progress of BF3 during free radical released the trailer for it. Those years stood still when it got cancelled. When DICE had released a trailer of battlefront, most of us thought they were gonna take the concept that free radical created. DICE made 2 games, but couldn't give us the ground and space battles. Such a shame, especially since we know they've made similiar modes for battlefield titles.
Episode III, Battlefront II and Empire at War coming out all within months of eachother was probably the best time period for Star Wars (not much else for me, but man, SW was killin' it back then)
Jedi Knight II, Jedi Knight III, Starfighter, KOTOR 1, KOTOR 2, Galactic Battlegrounds, Clone Wars and Jedi Starfighter were all pretty good, as well, IMO. Each movie release had its slew of good games around its release.
The OG games worked because they were sandbox war games set in the SW universe. They gave us the vehicles and weapons from the galaxy far, far away...put us on a familiar battlefied... and let us go crazy. The newer ones worried too much about being cinematic and delivering experiences tailored to modern pvp shooter fans. The sublime mix of infantry, flight vehicle, and ground vehicle action just wasnt there. Nevermind the excruciating monetization missteps made by the EA higher ups. It boggles my mind til this day that they fumbled such a straightforward concept. The blueprint for the experience was there in the originals. All they needed to do was expand the scope
@@Tinfoil_Hardhat yep, i just dont get it. As the craftsmen of the Battlefield franchise (off which the original Battlefront was patterned), Dice shouldve been able to knock it out of the park.
it was there on battlefront 2015 instatn action single player with bots with all vehicles and also support split screen. it was better and bigger than og battlefront maps but sadly space section dlc not added that mod. it playable with mod offline for space section but only 2 player. on battlefront 2 they remove that and offline arcade maps bcouse of small section of maps no vehicles mostly.espcialy air vehicles. they do that choice bcaouse of space have air vehicles on arcade sections but in the end make game smaller compared offline section of battlefront 2015. battlefront 2015 no matter what it look even better than unreal engine 5 games. fans have suppose to support that game instead of wanting battlefront 2 so early. what ever which game out fans go next game doest matter how the game. og balltefront 2 stay good bcouse of not battlefront out long time that game.
So many amazing game studios, just gobbled up by larger, soulless, corporate dominated devs/publishers. Late 90's/early 2000's I was literally buying a dozen if not *two dozen* different new video games coming out (depending on the year), dozens of different studios trying to outdo each other in quality and quantity much like how old car manufacturers used to be in the 1950's-60's (if you happen to know anything about the insane lengths they went to outdo the competition), now the AAA market-much like the MSM or Hollywood-is dominated by but a few companies who couldn't possibly give less of a f*ck about their games/established titles or the devoted and longtime playerbase.
@@CommanderLongJohn And even the studios that still exist, the OG developers of the 2000s are mostly all gone. That era of gaming is gone forever and will never come back. Sad but true.
@@CommanderLongJohnThat explains why in times like these, we the old school will gravitate more to the indie scene. 1 game = 1~5 devs. Understanding the limitations and in the same time embracing the creative alternatives! "The gaming industry surpassed the music and movie industry, even on the corruption and hubris."
@LegioXXI Yeah, even the studios still alive from that time, they're virtually unrecognizable, Rockstar/Activision/Ubisoft and the rest are full of people who never worked on their previous titles and don't give the slightest **** about them or their core audiences. In short, the AAA gaming industry has turned into Hollywood, these soulless CEO's and shareholders and executives, even lead developers/programmers/managers etc, empty suits who literally saw the money being made and the scummy potential to turn $1 into $1.10 at ALL costs, c*nts who've likely never even held a controller in their hands before, yet somehow wormed their way to the helms of the biggest gaming studios in the world . . . And even worse, with how cancerous our culture has become, if they're not purposely doing the bare minimum for the greatest return-churning out lackluster mediocrity at best for $70 a pop-then they're infusing politics and "diversity" and "inclusion" into whatever it is, like Alan Wake 2; the game where you have to spend the first 4 hours playing as a never before mentioned black woman FBI agent before playing as *Alan Wake* who you then play as for like 30 minutes . . . Which reminds me of The Last of Us 2 . . . Another horrible trope, instead of creating something BRAND NEW, that coincidentally has a black woman protagonist, yet another previously established piece of entertainment is recycled and "uPdAtEd FoR mOdErN aUdiEnCeS." Alright I'll stop babbling on now 🎃
The issue with EA battlefront II's progression was not just the lootboxes. It was also that the star cards were straight upgrades. This makes it very unfriendly to new players. Compare that to the progression in call of duty, or battlefield - You get new guns and equipment for your loadout, but they are rarely straight up better than the original kit just allow you to play in a different style. also still no return of galactic conquest
i played battlefront 2 EA 6 months ago and the playerbase is dwindling to the point i'm playing against veteran players with high tier star cards and weapons. the game to me is a downgrade to the original battlefront 2 in terms of the size of the maps and freedom you have.
@@adrianmennie2137 the star cards don't make alot of difference. Unlocking the guns and using the right gun at the right time. I use different guns depending on the maps and at different phases of the game. Also depends on your play style. The game is very nuanced. Also have "loadouts" enabled, Google enable loadouts battlefront 2 to find out how to activate it. Star cards need to change depending on the map and phase.

I still play Battlefront 2 (2017) it’s great man. Shame the start was so controversial. I’d probably game all day everyday if Battlefront 3 was ever made
I still can't believe Battlefront 3 was cancelled but the worst thing was what Lucasarts did to Free Radicals. They knew Free Radicals had no money so they stopped paying them. Free Radical didn't have the money to take them to court for breach of contract and went bankrupt in Christmas day.
Pandemic being shut down by EA is among the greatest crimes in gaming history. We only got a tease for how great BF3 could be. Does anyone know if they planned on adding on to the Galactic Conquest mode? I loved that with BF2. It was a bit shallow, but still so much fun, especially splitscreen.
The OGs can’t be beaten (although EA’s BF2 ended up good after 3 years). Words cannot describe how much the world missed out on with BF3’s cancellation.
We don't even know how it could have been. All I've seen worries me. BF3 would have failed. Harder than EA's Battlefront 2. All the footage we can find is the footage you would dream of. And this dream is the only reason why fools keep holding on to the idea that this game would have always been this magnum opus of Star Wars.
@@TurKlack What are you on about? The footage we seen of Battlefront 3 was amazing, yet you say it would've failed harder than EA's Battlefront 2? Lay off the death sticks, mate.
@@TurKlack even if Free Radical's BF3 was mediocre on release it still woulda been liked more than DICE's shit.... also free radical was the half of Rare who walked out after Goldeneye 64, they made Timesplitters trilogy which woulda owned gen 6 gaming completely had it not been for Halo....it'd be TS that we'd be singing the praises of now....and their battlefront 3....but something tells me Pandemic woulda taken the battlefront job over mercenaries 2....and Mercs woulda remained at LucasArts I mean in a decently run universe indie devs woulda remained independent.... all EA and DICE know hw to do is drop the ball, make bad games and sweep their failures under the rug.....
@@TurKlack PC gamers have access to the BF3 mod. We've seen what could've been. Yes, a mod isn't the same as a full release, but if the footage isn't good enough for you (which, as everyone else said, it was great), then the mod gives us a better idea of what we lost, and it's still leaps and bounds beyond Battlefront EA.
You think what EA did to Westwood and Pandemic was bad it is nothing compared to what EA did in 2020 and sad part their not their not the only company that did heinous act aginst law-abiding citizens...
Seeing the OG Battlefront 2 fills me with so much nostalgia. I hope everyone who worked at Pandemic landed on their feet somewhere. Two of my favourite games growing up on my Xbox were Mercenaries and BF2
OG Battlefront and Battlefront 2 felt like legit great war games where it was a matter of skill that determined how well you did. While the new ones were basically about which guy had the best cards.
This reminds me how much I miss Pandemic Studios. While we have so much more processing power and graphical power most games today lack the passion that games 15+ years had. There are some exceptions for sure but damn I miss the era when for every crappy game we had ten or so amazing ones, today I think it has flipped. I guess what I mean to say is I miss preordering games with little to no risk.
This has been the best gaming year in a long time in my opinion. Jedi: Survivor, Spider-Man 2, and Alan Wake 2 were all pretty phenomenal in their own rights. Fingers crossed that Frontiers of Pandora is decent to cap off the year strong.
@@Solo13508I actually do agree, regardless that we have seen our fair share of crap too (Redfall, Gollum, Kong, and now I have to add The Day Before now too) even with those shortfalls dare I say we have seen more bangers than we have in the past decade. RE4 and Balder's Gate were a calling to decades past and Tears of the Kingdom is going strong. I've heard nothing but praise about Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and Jedi Survivor, though I have yet to play them. Is it on par with 2004/05's library? Still don't think so, but it stands well when compared with anything since 2016 or so. That said still great considering 2016 is near two years shy of a decade.
@@Solo13508I disagree as that's what all normies say we've had some good and bad games besides lords of fallen and Elden Ring but classics games will always be better not including the bad games like Superman 64 , ET aswell
@@AlexanderJoneshttps Saying that all classic games are better excluding a few is on the same level as saying that all new games are bad excluding a few. It's unjustly overgeneralizing.
Now we have a remaster of the first two Battlefront games coming. Hopefully Electronic Arts and dice will play these games and realize where they fell short.
The saddest thing is how much effort EA/Dice put into making their Battlefront 2 right. Only to abandon it as soon as public sentiment had turned positive. They should have kept going.
Their game was bad on a foundational level. They butchered how vehicles work. Reinforcements were just straight up better infantry rather than specialized classes (more health and damage). Most maps were filled with choke points. Capital supremacy played nothing like conquest as there was no reinforcements and there was a forced mini galactic assault phase for some odd reason. They focused more on pretty graphics and hero gameplay than they did the core of a battlefront game. It’s herofront now, not battlefront
You deserve a few million subs with how much work you put into each video, idk how you dont have more subscribers, honestly. It's definitely one of the best when it comes to game franchises that sadly died.
I play battlefront 2 and it is a crime that they stopped supporting the game getting canceled to try and save BF2042 battlefront 2 was at its peak and has so much more to offer redeeming alot of the negative stuff they started with. Wont be the same as og battlefront but it was starting to be a good game. I hope we do get a bf3 one day and done correctly
@@Solo13508 I'd say it's still Disney's fault, at the end of the day, for shutting down Lucasarts and handing the property to EA, a company with possibly the worst reputation in all of modern gaming. I will say I enjoyed the Jedi Fallen Order, but I only bought it second hand and it was good in spite of EA not because of them.
What they did to mercenaries was just vindictive! EA not only rushed it out, but provided absolutely zero support after release outside of consoles. They also released it with heavy encryption and failsafes to prevent modding the game and have repeatedly refused to even allow people to make mods for it too. It's like EA just wanted the mercenaries IP to die as publicly as possible and humiliate pandemic as much as they possibly could. They even shut down the only update, which gave cheat codes almost as soon as they released it like they just wanted to fuck with people one more time and removed the game from all storefronts, including origin. Greed I can understand, but this just comes off like mental illness aggression... They really are the most psychopathic company in the world when you think about it and that says a lot.
Oh man this is fantastic, I’ve been waiting for a new video covering the whole series. GVMERS knocks it outta the park again, you always deliver top quality content.
It's very strange that the 90's and Prequel eras gave many of the best Star Wars games. But when Disney got Star Wars they somehow cannot make anything classic or bombastic like their predecessors, despite being a billion dollars company.
@@maskednil I think Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor and Battlefront 2 are better than older games in terms of gameplay but in terms of writing, yeah, KOTOR and KOTOR 2 had great writing, but haven't played the ones you're talking about yet to see how they hold up
Loved Pandemic's battlefronts. My only gripes with 2005 BF2 are how the vehicles were severely nerfed, and how the absurd AOE from vehicle blasters weren't carried over
@@microsoftpain haha same- in the OG battlefront on Hoth, if you spawn as rebels in the base you can fly really fast across the map to the Imperial base and steal an AT-ST before anyone hops in. You can then proceed to have an absolute field day rag-dolling all the infantry lol
Battlefront 2 (2005) was released when I was in college. I remember everyone in my house being addicted for a while. Even though I haven't played it in years, I still remember that game as being one of the most fun shooters that I have ever played. We were all so bummed out that the third installment was canceled.
Does anyone remember being able to command squads in Battlefront 2? I remember you can have up to 2 or 3 soldiers follow you around and give orders to for tactical applications
It was really beautiful! The graphics and sound were perfect, the controls and gameplay were smooth, and the HUD was very simple/minimalist. It felt immersive; less like playing a game and more like being in a Star Wars movie! All it really lacked was the class system to give players roles and teams a bit more organization. Also space battles. Heroes were difficult to obtain, and it made more sense for the more skilled players to be able to earn them (as it was in the OG Battlefront games.)
2017 bf2 got so much free love post-launch... until they were all moved over to a certain disaster. Now every time I see 2042 I think "battlefront 2 died for this".
Amen. At least it looks like their plan worked with BF2042. Sadly. Trust me when I say that Battlefield fans are also wondering wtf they have been doing the past couple years.
I think one of the largest issues with BF 2018 that for some reason no one talks about was false advertising. Shows scenes that never happened in the game to advertise it as a true “Empire Perspective Story” that Star Wars fans like me want since we’ve already have 15 million rebel perspective stories and the Empire is just awesome (Before Lucas Arts/ Disney ruined them by making them ungodly stupid and useless).
Their ‘story’ was nothing short of a desperate sad excuse of a sequel trilogy marketing campaign. Do you really think this game sold that many copies because people were excited to see that imperial chick? She was on the cover, but I guarantee you people were only interested in George Lucas’ Star Wars. The prequels and original trilogy. People wanted to be a stormtrooper partaking in the events of HIS movies. One who’s going to die for the Empire’s ideals without being a pathetic traitor. But we can’t have that in this new princess era of Star Wars.
I swear, every time a game looks amazing with its trailer/game tests. There is always something going on in the background between two companies that lead to a canning of the project. Imagine what would have become of the Battlefront series if Battlefront 3 came out?
I remember when the reboot was announced, I couldn’t believe that Battlefront was coming back. As a kid I heard rumors of Battlefront III and while I enjoyed EA’s attempts at Battlefront, the originals stand strong. If any of you have a modded Original Xbox (which is easy to softmod) then you can play the original two Battlefront games online again through the Insignia service! I got the first game for Christmas of either ‘04/‘05 because I first saw the box for the game in a Circuit City back in the day (feel old yet?) and I got the game that Christmas, played it every day as a kid.
For me the first battlefront was better. I liked that you cannot play as Jedi. Meeting Darth Vader as common soldier in a cave knowing I cannot do anything against him but find another way around was genuinely scary and I loved that. I also think that maps in BF 1 were better.
The story of Battlefront III is a tragedy, & it bewilders me that they've yet again canned the idea despite the flourishing BFII modding community *proving* that demand is still there. I started a Game Design Document for a possible BFIII before EA announced their Battlefront II, & I shelved it out of hope that somebody at DICE would've had some of the same ideas I came up with. Needless to say, I was let down, & my GDD remains on my Cloud drive.
It comes down to this for me; Bf1 (2004) is VERY good, best maps! So many vehicles including flying vehicles on maps and FIRST PERSON view vehicles! It’s essentially a battlefield game with Star Wars outfits to me, incredible (still play today) Bf2 (2005) is only better to me personally cuz of the variety of game modes and DLC. Only 1 map with flying vehicles (Hoth) and only on one team, so bf1 has the best maps to me personally for that. Space mode is lame without Mods and I can’t do mods I only have Xbox One Bf (2015) I do love the skirmish modes and that it’s also split screen, only 2 factions and 7 maps which is lame but I can’t lie, I love the vehicles! Shame there’s no a.i. for the heroes in this game. Bf2, while I do applaud their efforts post launch for instant action mode, no maps with flying vehicles is a major shame, since they have them online. And no split screen = not truly instant action to me. And I of course LOVED the Galactic conquest modes in the old school bf games!! Keep in mind I only have Xbox / Ps2; I’ve never been able to experience mods Bf3 would’ve been incredible to see based on the footage that was released.
Well, thanks to increadible modding support of 2005's Battlefront (or almost any game of that era), you can easily get all BF1 maps in BF2. There are also a ton of mods that add stuff like 1st person vehicle or even whole new eras like "The Old Republic". Modding is actually the thing i miss most about 2000s gaming. Even when a game itself was mediocre or simply overplayed, modding added so much creative stuff. And all for free. And nowadays people pay up to thousands of bucks for weapon skins in Counter-Strike. Gaming is simply not the same anymore. Some things obviously improved, but the lack of modding in modern gaming is such a huge step backwards.
@@LegioXXI I get it, and I agree, but me personally I am a console gamer, I suck with computers and I don’t really understand how to mod anything; but I like seeing people’s mods online and yes, they are game changing (double meaning)

I was a little kid when I learned to mod and was just as intimidated but once I forced myself to learn, I havent looked back and modding became apart of the experience. Modding is so much easier in this day and age with modders creating installers and other tools that do the work for you. You owe it to yourself, just one hour of reading a tutorial, downloading the mod, following the steps to install, and bing bang boom, after installing a.couple mods you'll know how to it and wonder why you were so intimidated.
That little man showing off the arcade cabinet was adorable! Kinda like a lil Ewok without the fuzz. But seriously, as a long time player of Battlefront i am emotionally involved in this video. As such, I am steeling myself for what will almost certainly depress me a bit.
What we had was great but what we could have gotten would have been greater! I've always loved the Battlefront games but losing part 3 was heart breaking and seeing what EA did to part 2 just hurts. I did enjoy EA's part 2 eventually but still the damage was done. Here's hoping someone makes a Star Wars Battlefront sequel that we always want.
My brother and I played Battlefront in the PS2/3 days. What always made us laugh was when he played the demo for BF2. He entered onto the Utapau map as General Kenobi...only to be ran over by a Sep Tank just as he appeared. We joked after that: "General Kenobi has entered the field!" 'Yeah, as a hood ornament...
What I remember about the rise of the rat is... is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Fox Wars, the 501st Legion was discreetly transferred back to Orlando. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts? Any private traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the flight to Florida, not when Order 4B came down, and not when we marched into the Skywalker Ranch. Not a word.
Imagine being in middle school and patiently waiting every E3 for the announcement of SWBF3, then it gets cancelled, then you see a bad ass leaked trailer of what looks like a finished game, then only getting psp titles instead of big boy games on consoles. Then you wait years and EA gets the hold of it, fcks its up with no clone wars or story mode, then they fck it up twice with microtransactions at launch of their 2nd attempt and right when they fix their fck up and we get what's is almost a decent game after a few years they stop supporting it. Lol, man we got mistreated for a long ass time.
You may be interested in Battlefront 3 Legacy. It adds nearly all assets from the canceled game to classic Battlefront 2. I have just uploaded updated gameplay on my channel.
Good video, as a DICE and EA Battlefront aficionado.. I think the only thing you missed on 2017 BF2 was that there was tweets after development about how much they planned such as the Ahsoka, Ventress, Mustafar prototypes as well as plenty other gameplay dreams but I understand that is not necessary to the overarching story. Thanks for covering it!
Galactic Conquest could be a game in of itself if done correctly. Could support full online multiplayer as well as single player and co-op against the AI as well. But I don't have much faith in current day AAA companies to do it correctly and the ones who might do it correctly have little to zero chance of getting the license. Though if Disney keeps at it, it might be real easy to buy the IP soon.
god I can just imagine the amount of micro transactions that they can put into galactic conquest. I would rather someone port the game and modded it and have gamers run a server through steam.
If the system comes back then it needs to copy red orchestra multiplayer campaign as the base and then add the stuff that a normal galactic conquest battlefront should have (buying items and troops)
When did that happen? I had the celebration edition, but the game never satisfied my tastes. I wish we could’ve got BATTLEFRONT 2005 with 2015/2017 graphics remaster it would’ve been a perfect game that would’ve sold spectacularly. Too many cooks in the kitchen at EA and aDICE killed BATTLEFRONT.
That's not actually him. The one who narrated the Empire of Dreams documentary was Robert Coltworthy. The narrator here is someone named Steve Petitt, who used to do voice work for another gaming channel who used to do similar analysis and documentaries known as Gamer Spawn, who I believe at least the founders and some of the members at GVMERS worked for previously including Steve himself.
No love for the Galactic Conquest mod for BF1942 where Battlefront got that name of it's mode from? I would have thought it impossible to mention the Galactic Conquest mode without mentioning it! In the original I only played in First Person.
The lack of any mention of Battlefield 1942 at all is downright bizarre. The Galactic Conquest mod showed the way, and the first Battlefront was a near carbon copy of Battlefield 1942. And for the record, that was a good thing.

Always nice to see someone mention the "x-ray" feature in WT. I've spent at least a few hours total simulating shots with various shell types against armour I find myself facing in typical matches. Being able to see exactly how each shell type interacts with various types or armour/varying thickness and what effects the post-penetration damage does to the enemy crew, has helped me formulate strategies when confronting the enemy. Sorry for the long post and I'm not a paid shill, i just spent over 1,000 hours of my life on this game lol

Not really surprised it wasn’t mentioned here, but in the starship fights you also had the ability to dismantle the ships from the inside. They almost got it, but stopped at just mentioning you could just board enemy ships.
The voice over in this vid gives it the feel of a late 90s/early 2000s documentary. I just feel like I should be in class with a checked-out substitute teacher playing this from a television strapped to a cart.
I grew up playing the original BF1 and 2. Despite the mediocre reviews, I enjoyed BF2015 a lot. I still play it to this day and it has a decent player base on Playstation for an 8 year old game. BF2017 wasn't my cup of tea and the class system ruined the dynamic of custom playstyles through use of hands from BF2015.
Just want to chime in, although many dont realize, star wars battlefront (2015) is the highest selling game in the entire franchise history, with over 25 million copies sold. Much more than BF2 (2017) and any other. Sadly, it means little as we can no longer get daily death star games.
I'll never forgive EA for finally getting Battlefront 2 into a good place and then immediately dropping support in favor of Battlefield 5. They could have made something really special.
Rebooted Battlefront 1 was such a shame. It had such phenomenal graphics and sound design that they forgot to make sure it had any replayability. I played through everything it had in like 3 hours. I normally only play single player stuff anyway so you can imagine how crushingly disappointed I was when this game not only had no campaign but no galactic conquest, no heroes vs heroes, no split screen co-op, and no Ai command post or firefight type game modes. They literally just made a hollow shell of the prettiest looking game they could and nothing else.
12:19 The AI was silly sometimes, but calling them incompetent is such a terrible and nonsensical take lol (assuming the difficulty wasn't on easy), especially when such dealbreaking issue is completely ignored in BF2005, where they were completely dumbed down even on the hardest difficulty, there's so much nostalgia bias it's ridiculous
Yeah that offended me too. It wasn’t Order 66 level difficulty but they would come and find you. These reviews are clearly done by people that didn’t invest much time playing the game
I remember when Battlefront came out for Xbox, it took over my life. Then the second one came out and I got it for ps2 and that was it. I played that game like my life depended on it. Still one of the best games I’ve played right next to Kingdom Hearts 2
2024 and still no Battlefront 3… Literally one of the most important and profitable intellectual works that ever existed and are you telling me no one wants to try and put some real passion into it…? I can’t understand what happened to this franchise… just take it away from EA if it’s going to stay dead. They even have all the models on frostbite engine, wtf… are they that lazy???
If you are interested in checking out one of the closest attempts to recreate Battlefront 3 by FRD (Using original assets from that game), you might want to search up for: Battlefront 3 Legacy.
Honestly at this point I’d even be satisfied with a Battlefront 3 where they combined both the original Battlefronts together with updated graphics and giving us that because man I love the maps we got on both games and it’d be one hell of a game if we had that many maps. One can only dream nowadays.
The 2015 reboot was soulless garbage that didnt deserve half the credit it got just because people were desperate for the battlefront name. It simply didnt have the breadth of scope that battlefront is about. Also, totally shameful that EA had exclusive rights to a literal goldmine for a decade and cancelled more games than they released. Like, there's battlefront, the jedi fallen order games, and some mobile stuff plus small projects. They totally blew it, they are an absolutely stupid company only coasting on preying on mouth breathers whaling in madden
That was such a mess, i remember laughing at the 'Surprise Mechanics' and 'Pride in Accomplishment' comments. It's sad that too many companies think consumers are stupid and by making games harder to enjoy, they'll just throw more money to just finish a game...if it even has a story mode, not just multiplayer.
The initial games in the series are legendary and still hold up even if the multiplayer has long vanished for the consoles, I have mine on the OG XBOX. Even the PSP titles are solid and dependinable, Renegade Squadron is still one I enjoy. Then came the lootboxes and play to win, it's tragic how innovation and fun has been replaced by that.
yep OG battlefront and Spin off always to be best battlefront 2005 on xbox is 9/10 definitive version because Map pack DLC battlefront 2005 on ps2 is 8/10 battlefront 2005 on psp is 6/10 has less content than console version battlefront 2004 is 8/10 battlefront renegade squadron is 6/10 battlefront elite squadron 7/10
I feel like almost every major franchise has gone through this now. And it's not necessarily that newer iterations/games in a long standing series are bad. It just feels like there is so much "baggage" along with them. Dealing with broken launches, lack of content, aggressive microtransactions. And often eventually many of these games get fixed, look at Halo Infinite now, lot of people as of recent have been enjoying it and praising the new direction/content. And even though I will play it or games that had similar situations, I feel like we are just conditioned to deal with "yeah it's kinda frustrating or problematic at launch, but a year and a half later it will be so much fun!" Also a command post is under attack!
Halo Infinite is a weird case to bring up though because while people are praising it again, it still has a severe lack of players and what's more is some of the more dedicated fans are finally leaving because they realize that Infinite's engine is not good and has 343 won't be able to replicate several gamemodes as well due to gimped physics and collision. For example: Rocket Race and Grifball. Halo Infinite was kind of doomed from the start precisely because of the initial direction they took and it would take much more to actually reverse that course. Even with forge introduced, a very small percentage plays Infinite compared to the titan Halo used to be in the Gaming Industry.
at least we have 6 battlefront games battlefront 2004 battlefront 2005 battlefront renegade squadron battlefront elite squadron battlefront 2015 battlefront 2017 also battlefront 2005 always to be best battlefront game

I refuse to play any game that does not have a single player campaign, that was my old standard for games in general. Nowadays I have added an additional requirement for Star Wars games: They cannot have anything to do with Disney. Disney's trash Star Wars fakefiction has ruined anything good they might have enjoyed and now I sadly stay away. I do remember playing the OG BF2 and it was so fun I unlocked the permanent upgrades for my favorite classes including the basic soldier and the pilot and during the story I remember breaking the lore a bit when Ki adi Mundi stole the doohicky that was supposed to be a secret from the Jedi order.
Since 2021 or so I've been going back and playing almost every Star Wars game from the past 25 years. It's made me really disappointed in how little post-launch support Battlefront 2 (2005) recieved. There are dozens upon dozens of fascinating infantry units and vehicles featured in games like Jedi Power Battles, Battle for Naboo, Galactic Battlegrounds, Starfighter, Rogue Squadron, Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Xbox and countless other games that would have been brilliant to have in Battlefront 2 (2005)'s decently well-tuned sandbox. Thank the Force for the modding community that's been able to bring some of these dreams to life when major studios couldn't.

OG Battlefront II is a masterpiece that still holds up today. It takes me back to a simpler time when game developers focused on fun first and foremost.
OG battlefront games from 2004-2005 always be timeless
Even the demo of BF1 was a great game.
I'm so bored of the blatant nostalgia this game holds over people's objectivity.. how is a game that was forced out the door with a 12 month release schedule in order to coincide with ROTS DVD release and resulted in game assets being used as marketing such as every 501st legion being on every map, complete Temmura Morrison voiceover and the map fun quality taking a severe dive due to needing more PT maps going to be called "focusing on fun first"
It could be said for 2004 though.
@carterdarter
I think your grievances are fair.

It truly was a golden age for Star Wars games. Republic Commando came out around that time I think.

They literally gave the project to DICE, the developers of Battlefield, and yet somehow messed up the entire formula of the original games.

The canceled Star Wars Battlefront 3 game by free radical would have been one of the best Star Wars games man what could have been 😢
The issue with EA battlefront II's progression was not just the lootboxes.
You can just grind it out in coop to get upgrades. Biggest issues are exploits and cheats, aimbots, wall hacks and damage mods.
Not only star cards but also the guns. The only useful sniper is the last one to unlock.
i played battlefront 2 EA 6 months ago and the playerbase is dwindling to the point i'm playing against veteran players with high tier star cards and weapons. the game to me is a downgrade to the original battlefront 2 in terms of the size of the maps and freedom you have.

Not just Pandemic but Visceral too, they could’ve cooked up the craziest Star Wars game ever, but both got shut down cause EA hates quality…
Pandemic pitched a bf3 with space to ground but where told they had to do it in year again so they declined

Absolutely, unforgivable...

Battlefront 2015 is so underrated. Spent 2 years grinding on that game, and I loved it.
Both new battlefronts were great. People tend to hate things that aren't exactly like the originals or a previous game they liked when they were 10.
Where did you guys go? I miss your high quality vids!
2017 bf2 got so much free love post-launch... until they were all moved over to a certain disaster. Now every time I see 2042 I think "battlefront 2 died for this".

Trust me when I say that Battlefield fans are also wondering wtf they have been doing the past couple years.
Did not see this one coming, but very intriguing.
Thank you for covering this series. Shame it went out in a whimper no thanks to EA.
I think one of the largest issues with BF 2018 that for some reason no one talks about was false advertising. Shows scenes that never happened in the game to advertise it as a true “Empire Perspective Story” that Star Wars fans like me want since we’ve already have 15 million rebel perspective stories and the Empire is just awesome (Before Lucas Arts/ Disney ruined them by making them ungodly stupid and useless).
they could have easily introduced Thrawns faction of the Empire then. and have the character join him rather then first order.
Don't open the Kathleen Kennedy pandora box. Its over. And giving EA the rights...games died too
Their ‘story’ was nothing short of a desperate sad excuse of a sequel trilogy marketing campaign. I remember when the reboot was announced, I couldn’t believe that Battlefront was coming back. As a kid I heard rumors of Battlefront III and while I enjoyed EA’s attempts at Battlefront, the originals stand strong.
I will always agree that BF1 had superior maps. I

Yup. 2 had a few QOL improvement and space battle, but the first had better map design, UI, and tone. Let's not forget the loading screen.
Both have their charms and individually are better than both EA instalments combined.
It’s essentially a battlefield game with Star Wars outfits to me, incredible (still play today)
Bf2 (2005) is only better to me personally cuz of the variety of game modes and DLC. Only 1 map with flying vehicles (Hoth) and only on one team, so bf1 has the best maps to me personally for that. Space mode is lame without Mods and I can’t do mods I only have Xbox One
Bf (2015) I do love the skirmish modes and that it’s also split screen, only 2 factions and 7 maps which is lame but I can’t lie, I love the vehicles!
Keep in mind I only have Xbox / Ps2; I’ve never been able to experience mods
Bf3 would’ve been incredible to see based on the footage that was released.
@@adambomb51You won't get in trouble, you're not gonna damage anything, it's literally just dragging and dropping or running an installer. You owe yourself the 1 hour it'll take to learn to mod a game, once you get past that it'll feel so liberating, you'll feel like you've unlocked a new game, and end up getting addicted to the shitloads of different mods that'll make you feel like you bought 10 games for the price of 1.
BF2 2017 does have flying vehicles in maps.
@@danaolsongaming not in instant action mode, specifically though.
We joked after that:
"General Kenobi has entered the field!"
'Yeah, as a hood ornament...
I still play battlefront (2004) to this day
Battlefront 3 needs to be revived and it has to be a combination of Battlefront 2 (2005), Renegade Squadron AND Elite Squadron.
never happen because Disney/lucasfilm and modern gaming
PSP was one of my favorite online places to play this masterpiece
Galactic Conquest could be a game in of itself if done correctly. Could support full online multiplayer as well as single player and co-op against the AI as well. But I don't have much faith in current day AAA companies to do it correctly and the ones who might do it correctly have little to zero chance of getting the license. Though if Disney keeps at it, it might be real easy to buy the IP soon.
god I can just imagine the amount of micro transactions that they can put into galactic conquest. I would rather someone port the game and modded it and have gamers run a server through steam.
Honestly this game mode doesn’t even need Star Wars to be great. Although that would be ideal, I think any sci fi setting can work
If the system comes back then it needs to copy red orchestra multiplayer campaign as the base and then add the stuff that a normal galactic conquest battlefront should have (buying items and troops)

I’m glad you include the clip from Reviews On The Run/Judgement Day about the game
Battlefront 1's maps were just perfect. There's a reason why there's mods trying to add them into Battlefront 2.
You forgot to play the Imperial Marche when first mentioning EA
Battlefront 2 (2017) having it's live service end was a massive tragedy...
The fact that this is the narration voice from the old Star Wars documentary is actually such a huge W to the video
Which old star wars documentary
@@rpgs6218 Empire of Dreams
That's not actually him. The one who narrated the Empire of Dreams documentary was Robert Coltworthy. The narrator here is someone named Steve Petitt, who used to do voice work for another gaming channel who used to do similar analysis and documentaries known as Gamer Spawn, who I believe at least the founders and some of the members at GVMERS worked for previously including Steve himself.
@@StarEximus fair enough man but damn it's close.
@@_Braised You could walk around inside the millennium Falcon as well as fly it... Something none of the Battlefront games managed to do. and something that only Star Citizen and Starfield really do now, and to a lesser extent X4.
Not enough people talk abt Battlefront 2015. It was wayy ahead of its time. To be good you needed skill and it was not pay to win. Great game overall.
Although I do watch your channel I sometimes don't manage to watch videos promptly and don't comment. I watch several gaming channels ad each has it's own style. This has a very linear presentation and is very easy to follow. You have good narration and great pacing with your editing. Covering gameplay mechanics as well as the challenges and successes of the people who make the game.
Can't believe most people don't know about Battlefront 2 Legacy Edition. It turns the game into the original Battlefront III campaign, ground to space battles, and all.

Not really surprised it wasn’t mentioned here, but in the starship fights you also had the ability to dismantle the ships from the inside. They almost got it, but stopped at just mentioning you could just board enemy ships.
lol you had the option to man the turrets outside of the ship too and to assassinate the guy manning the turret. The depth was just nuts....

You NEED to cover the DISASTER of a game The Day Before. Not even 1 week after launch and the studio shut down and abandoned the game
Battlefront 3 getting cancelled still hurts to this day.
The voice over in this vid gives it the feel of a late 90s/early 2000s documentary. I just feel like I should be in class with a checked-out substitute teacher playing this from a television strapped to a cart.
EA's Battlefront 2 was genuinely really damn good after years of updates. A damn shame they completely abandoned the game.
I’m just a little disappointed that the also canceled and fascinating SW Battlefront 4 wasn’t really covered in this.
At 30:00 but that’s about it.
@@Sosanatorz33 Yeah, just a brief mention. No real details on the interesting "What If...?" scenarios the game was poised to explore. Oh well.

Real, real bad.
I'll never forgive EA for finally getting Battlefront 2 into a good place and then immediately dropping support in favor of Battlefield 5.
They could have made something really special.
Where are you guys? Pls dont stop making videos!
I'm not into Star Wars but Pandemic Studios made with Saboteur one of my favorite games.
I always say this, but this is the most underrated channel on youtube.
45:57 anyone know from what channel this is?
Then came the lootboxes and play to win, it's tragic how innovation and fun has been replaced by that.
yep OG battlefront and Spin off always to be best
battlefront 2005 on xbox is 9/10 definitive version because Map pack DLC
battlefront 2005 on ps2 is 8/10
battlefront 2005 on psp is 6/10 has less content than console version
battlefront 2004 is 8/10
battlefront renegade squadron is 6/10
battlefront elite squadron 7/10
I feel like almost every major franchise has gone through this now. And it's not necessarily that newer iterations/games in a long standing series are bad. It just feels like there is so much "baggage" along with them. Dealing with broken launches, lack of content, aggressive microtransactions. And often eventually many of these games get fixed, look at Halo Infinite now, lot of people as of recent have been enjoying it and praising the new direction/content. And even though I will play it or games that had similar situations, I feel like we are just conditioned to deal with "yeah it's kinda frustrating or problematic at launch, but a year and a half later it will be so much fun!"
Also a command post is under attack!

20:40 the original battlefront also had a demo that came included with the original trilogy boxset. it was actually based on a beta build of the game with some interesting removed and changed features.
