    This is a great test, this is something we have questioned. Very interesting results, it does sound like the 3 sensors are added as a marketing feature rather than offering a practical benefit. Thanks for doing this tests

      'the big guys' cams are made in the same place, they are all chinese made. those makers finally decided to start making their own, since they have the technology anyway, and they play around more with their designs.

    Great Dave! I hope 5 more guys replicate the experiment and we will have good science. One obvious advantage though if we have 3 sensors is if one or two gets fucked up, you still have at least one to actuate your camera. Keep up the good work!

    Great test Dave. I just recently got 4 GardePros. I have set them up in my house, and tested them, comparing them with some of my Stealth cams. I think the 3 sensor cameras seem to be more sensitive, picking up smaller movements, then some of the Stealth cams. You see alot of reviews that some of these 3 sensor cams get alot of false triggers. I will find out more when I get these cams outside.

    • @zzz7zzz9
      @zzz7zzz9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the people who report 'false triggers', are kind of incorrect. something can be detected by the side sensors, yet still not cross into view of the lens. so it'll record a vid, but nothing comes by. one has to be aware of that when using them.

  • @TheCapitanHans
    @TheCapitanHans ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love your videos, I have learned a lot, thanks so much!
    However in this test wondering since you were so far out in your test the center sensor’s field of view or “cone” was already wide enough to cover most of the additional coverage of the side sensors.
    Wondering if the camera was perpendicular to a close trail about five feet away, the side sensors would help detect an animal coming down the trail as the sensor cone from the middle sensor would not be as wide do to the close proximity of the trail.
    I would be interested in seeing the results if you walked from the side of the camera but much closer to the camera. Most of my setups are on the side of trails perpendicular to the trail not into fields.

    • @HuntingFarmerOfficial
      @HuntingFarmerOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and for your thoughts. I did in fact walk directly in front of the camera as well as driving the cart past the cameras at approximately 5 foot away. The results were nearly identical to the footage I showed.

  • @madhuntsadventures

    Great info, Dave! I've always wondered if there was really a difference and now I know. Thank you!
    One question for you, last winter I had 2 different trail cameras out for 2-3 months overlooking a popular alligator sunbathing spot. Neither of the cameras took a single video of any of the gators walking out of the water or into the water. I had several videos of them laying there after a bird would walk by and trigger the camera but not a single gator walking directly in front of the camera at about 10 yards. Why do you think that is? Do you think it has to do with gators being cold blooded? I thought their movement alone would trigger the cameras but it didn't. I've asked different people but I should've asked you. lol

    • @HuntingFarmerOfficial
      @HuntingFarmerOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching. Nearly all trail cameras struggle with triggering when the subject is walking directly towards or directly away from the camera. I’m not sure if that’s what was happening in your case. I don’t think it was an alligator issue, but I could be wrong. Come to think of it, I once pulled a 3D target in front of trail cameras using a string. The cameras rarely triggered with that movement (apparently not enough heat). Maybe gators are too cold blooded??

    • @madhuntsadventures
      @madhuntsadventures ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HuntingFarmerOfficial Thanks for the info, Dave. 👍🏼 I guess it's also possible the gators are walking too slow to trigger the camera. 🤷‍♂

  • @FototrappoleeFototrappolaggio
    @FototrappoleeFototrappolaggio ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello excellent idea to try the lateral sensors, but I think the test is wrong because you are too far from the camera trap and therefore it is only the central sensor that detects you, the lateral ones cover an angle of 30° but in the vicinity in the distance it is canceled .

    my first cams with side sensors, were some suntek cams, many years ago. they 100% made a difference. the cam would start recording before the deer even entered the lens' view, which was fantastic, as i missed nothing. it was a way better experience, on a vid, seeing, and even hearing, the entire sequence from before the animal even stepped into view.
    i have one location that is my favourite, on a natural licking branch/scrape. the deer always cross perfectly perpendicular to the cam's set-up. it was this location that really opened my eyes to the side sensors advantages. and this season, i replaced the cam there, with one of my A3 cams, wanting better video quality for that spot. the cam is still up there and hasn't been checked since november, i think. when i get back up there to check it, i'll have to pay attention to how it's vids played out, in comparison.

    I just bought a GardePro e8 and wanted to use it for detecting a moving vehicle as quickly as possible. Unfortunately it takes about a couple of seconds before the video recording begins. So I miss the most important part of the detections. Photo detecting works much faster, but I don’t need that feature. I have tried to use the “0 Delay setting “ but that still doesn’t help

    • @HuntingFarmerOfficial
      @HuntingFarmerOfficial  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The delay setting only affects the delay between camera triggers. In other words how long the camera waits before it’ll trigger again once it’s been triggered. There is no setting to “speed” up or “slow” down the camera’s reaction time. To get better results camera placement (and mounting angle) is important. Small changes can make a huge difference. You’ll want to place the so the vehicles are moving left to right (or vice versa) but you don’t want the subject to be moving at a 90° angle from the camera. Finding that sweet spot may take some trial and error but may be necessary. Also the mounting height and the up/down angle affects the camera’s ability to pick up movement. Hope this helps 👍

    The original intent was to use multiple pir's for slow cameras in the diy homebrew trail cam building.
    I started the 3 pir setup with a sony s40 camera back in 2009 and another member of our forum took it a step further and built a unit with multiple pirs and the cam mounted on a servo so when motion was sensed at any of the pirs the camera/servo setup would track the motion. They worked as we intended them to.
    These ideas we had and built were stolen by these offshore hacks without understanding the actual purpose we had intended and they started using our info off the forum and within a couple years these multi pir and servo driven cams were being marketed.
    We had some great inventions and homebrew cam setups and it was sad to see how offshore companies could just steal your info and sell it.

    If the fov of the sensor matches the fov of the lens and you have decent trigger speed, there really is no difference in what you should capture. The only reason I can think of is maybe it cost the manufacturer more to have a sensor and lens that is the same fov. Especially if they are purchasing them from separate companies. At least that's my theory. I also own a guardpro camera and one thing I did find was I got fewer false triggers with the extra sensors turned off.

    What I have noticed the most on all of my cameras is that even the best cameras miss things that they should not miss like a person with insulated clothes or a cold started vehicle,,or red vehicles , funny thing is that the same cameras will pick up a mouse or sparrow or chipmunk ,, I have thought that just maybe cams with three sensors were just a selling point,,,anyway they catch and miss things I don’t expect.
