    Definitely good advice with the RTV on the lobes of the gasket. I failed to do this on my 540i and it leaked worse than ever.

    Being gentle is using a plastic trimmer tool, not a metal flathead screwdriver. You can break the plastic cover like that. Either way, was just curious how the valve cover is sitting on these models. Thanks for the video :).

    Did you apply too much RTV? That seems like a ton of it, what if some of the excess bleeds into the engine?

    • @SharpieEasternn
      @SharpieEasternn 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a huge deal. Oil filter will stop it from going anywere. You kind of have to gunk it on with these cars because the plastic valve cover warps overtime

    • @laserspeeddemon
      @laserspeeddemon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, that is very excessive, especially if a harden bit clogs up any of the oil galleries.

      Lmao problem is that its already in the engine.

      Sloppy Job, but helps people I suppose. No need for all that RTV. I use Permatex ultra black/sensor safe and oil resistant at half moons front and back. That's all. Overkill works for some though. Good Video overall

      Definitely too much RTV. BMW recommendations are a small amount in the
      corners of the four humps. To each his own though.

    BMW is notorious for their plastic components taking a shit after 50,000 miles

    • @utube4greenfuture

      As well as their rubber components. Research discovered that in order for BMW to get an eco-friendly/tax discount manufacturing rating they had to choose a material that would only use 'recycled material'. They chose rubber components would be made using recycled rubber for new vehicles. That's why gaskets and window trim etc decay quicker than other cars. Mind blow when I read that.

    Would you say this is similar to how to go about for the 530i model?

    Hi, thank you for making this videio. I have a problem when replacing my valve cover gasket on my 2003 BMW 525i. The valve cover gasket does not sit flat on the valve cover. It is about a couple of millimeter higher than the grove. I confirmed with the seller Autohausaz to make sure I got the right part. Do you know of issues like this? Thanks..

      Normal for it to stick out some. Then as you tighten the bolts it kind of compresses down and spreads out microscopically to fill the groove it sits in in the valve cover. A.K.A. no leaky.

    Hi, I replaced my valve cover gasket on my 2003 BMW 525i. However, the gasket does not sit flat on the valve cover. It is about a couple of millimeter higher than the grove. It doesn't seem right to me. Do you have the same issue?

    • @criticalboost9719
      @criticalboost9719 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's supposed to be like that or gaskets wouldnt be needed :). Just torque the cover down, the gasket should get thinner as it gets pushed down. Just don't torque it down too hard or you will break things.
