If you're in the process of building out your credit card setup and aren't sure how many credit cards are too many, watch this video next to find out: th-cam.com/video/xkjqkdG1z0c/w-d-xo.html Thank you so much for watching! What's your current credit limit on your Citi Custom Cash? If you don't have one, what's your most successful credit limit increase so far?
Ive had my Citi Double Cash for about 5 months, limit of $1800. When I logged in to pay the balance today a message popped up asking if I would like to request an increase. I wasn't sure if it would be a hard pull or not, and wanted to pay my balance off before I requested it, so I came here to get some more info. I will wait for the payment to post before requesting an increase, then I'll be back to post the results (if I remember to). Edit: About 15 minutes later the payment posted, checked for soft pull language (which it was), and got an instant increase from $1800, to $2700. 🎉 Cheers mate
Spencer I just wanna say thank you!!! I was trying to increase my limit on my Costco visa for a while now and after watching your video I did it and got a credit limit increase! Went from 1200 to 2400 and now my total credit across my 3 cards is 10k. I’ve been watching your videos for a little while now and I just wanna say thank you!! Love your vids and keep it up!
Dude thank you so much for the comment! That really means a ton to me man. I'm happy my content has been helpful for you and I hope it continues to be that way!! I really appreciate you once again.
Nice $1500 increase! Yeah I definitely feel that on not wanting to have to consistently make early payments on Cards that you use frequently and have lower limits haha. Increasing your credit limit on that card should just continue to help you with that utilization and increase that Credit Score! Great video as always Spencer!
Thanks Matt! I just like having the comfortability in knowing that I don’t HAVE to pay my card off early and can still report a low utilization. I definitely try to still get in there early to pay my cards down, but some months I forget, do having a high credit limit will help during those times. Thanks for watching man!
Thank you so much for this video! Saw this on my timeline today. After watching it I went and asked for an increase on my Citi Custom Cash and was approved for a $1500 increase. This was my 4th attempt at an increase. Got denied at 90 days due to too many recent inquiries. Also at 7 and 8 months was denied for too many new accounts. Today I saw I was 0/6 on new approvals and 1/6 on Equifax inquiries. Got soft pull language and so I went for it. Thank you again!
Of course!! I'm glad this was helpful to you... that's all I want from this channel! It sucks it took you so long to finally get that CLI approval, but I'm really glad you finally did and I'm happy my video played a small role in that. Thanks for watching man!
I’m not happy that Josh stole my thunder….but then again I’m not second or third or fourth 😞. Congrats on the increase and cool to see that Citi also does a soft pull for that. I’m even more salty now with Chase and their hard pulls.
I'm proud of you for letting him have this one 😉 Thanks for being here at all man! It's definitely nice to be able to request a credit limit increase with no risk of a hard pull. I wish Chase wasn't so annoying about that.
Thanks for this video, I had no idea Citi did soft pull for credit limit increases!! That’s awesome! I just tried on the app and they didn’t give any notes about credit bureau so I didn’t know if it would be soft/hard but luckily I went on desktop and got a $2k increase with a soft pull. Congrats on your increase as well Spencer!
50% let’s gooo!! Though, Amex is a lot more generous, I know you’ll be doing that with your BBP at some point. Great breakdown of all the things to know leading up to it, very solid. And your face with the ⁉️❓❓🤨
Yessir!! Definitely happy with that. Of course I'd love to have gotten more, but I'm not gonna complain. I'm glad you thought it was helpful and enjoyable! Definitely trying to throw in more fun to my videos rather than them just being information based so I'm glad you caught that little easter egg.
Do you believe that it is necessary to boost all the citi credit cards credit limits higher have a checking or savings account? Can help or they are unnecessary.
Do you think one day you’ll do a vid on a CLI for a business AMEX? I’m planning on getting one in June & hopefully setting myself up good for ink cards
I imagine I'll manually request one in a few months as long as it's a soft pull and they don't automatically give me one. The Ink cards are great too! I'm looking at applying for the Ink Cash in January, so we'll see how that goes.
I just applied and they gave me a low limit for some reason $900 and on the app i notice it said “temporary credit limit 900” is this normal? What does it mean?, i have a 745 fico and i make a 6 figure income, i have 2-3 hard pulls at most. What the issue here, why a low limit?
Congrats on the approval! I don't think that's your actual credit limit though. That's probably just what's available to you until the card come in the mail. It should be higher than that though once you activate it.
Just as a heads up when Citi gives you an automatic credit limit increase they won’t let you apply for a manual one for at least six months which is so stupid 🙄
I've been a Citi customer for 5 years now. Started with a secured card with a limit of $200. Since opening this card I've opened several other cards with other companies. All of which have either started me off with a significantly higher limit than Citi or have granted me numerous limit increases. Citi has only granted me 1 $250 increase in 5 years! My income and credit has increased tremendously since opening this card. I truly don't understand. I have the double cash card
Citi can be really annoying about things so I don't blame you for being annoyed. How many CLIs have you requested? Hopefully a manual request like I did in this video would increase that a lot for you!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial over the past 5 years I've maybe requested 100s. Mostly out of frustration. Customer service is no help. They all just read from a script
@@MrDoubtful42069 Ah that could be an issue too. They do have rules with how frequently you can request CLIs so be careful with that. It sucks they haven't been helpful though!
Citi can be a bit difficult to get approved for since they're inquiry sensitive, but if you don't have too many card in the last few months then you probably have a decent shot. I believe 700+ is what most cards recommend you have before applying, but I assume people get approved with lower scores than that for this card. I'd look up data points on reddit if you're curious!
I have a high limit Airline card, which I would like to downgrade since I don't live in the region of that airline anymore. I'd like to then apply for a better rewards card. Is it possible to transfer the high limit to the new card, or do I have to "work my way up" with the new card?
Great question! If you are wanting to apply for a new card, you are going to get a new credit limit on that card if you're approved. Certain lenders will allow you to move credit limits from one of your other cards to this new one over time (from the same lender of course), but if you aren't getting another airline card within the same family as the old one, I would imagine that is highly unlikely they'll let you do that. So I would expect to have to work from the ground up with basically every new card you apply for, but your starting limits will get higher and higher over time. Hopefully that makes sense!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial So I just spoke with the bank, and was told that the airline card is not transferable to a new product, and I would have to cancel the card, then request that the credit line be transferred to any new card I get. Honestly , since it's a BoA card, I would sooner just get rid of it and none of the other BofA cards really appeal to me, however I would like to retain the high limit. Any suggestions?
Good to know! You won’t be able to transfer that limit out to any other bank, so if you want to retain the limit, I would open up one of their no annual fee cards, cancel your airline one, and request the old limit be put on this new card. You could call and make sure that’s possible before doing all that though. Also, if this airline card is your oldest credit card then it could hurt your credit score by closing it. That’s something to keep in mind as well. If it doesn’t have an annual fee, it may be worth it to just leave it open, but if you want to cancel it, then I would do what I said above.
Where's the $500 at too? 👀 In all honesty, people do have limits that high on their Custom Cash cards and a lot of people with limited credit history start at $500... it's just part of the marketing!
You can put whatever you’re comfortable with. I’m not going to ever recommend people do that on my channel for reasons you can probably understand. However, these lenders do reserve the right to request tax documentation from you do just be cognizant of that before you go too crazy.
I wouldn’t ever recommend maxing out your credit cards and letting that report to the credit bureaus for any reason. The high utilization will hurt your credit score pretty substantially for some time after that. You can always put a lot of charges on your card and pay it off before the statement close date and the banks will still see you’re using it a lot and could automatically give you a credit limit increase, but I wouldn’t let that utilization get reported to the bureaus. I’d just request a credit limit on your Citi cards manually as long as your CLI request form has the soft pull information I mentioned here. Hopefully that makes sense!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial Keep doing what you're doing! I admire your growth. I had to fall down a couple times and rebuild a couple times in order to get it. I'll share those stories as well. 🫡
