As usual, i love how you take time to explain, show step by step and indicate the working frame. It can realy help people in trouble with hessing ! nice tutorial
Your tutorials are easily the best. It's always relieving when i look up how to do something and one of the results is you because that means i know i will actually be able to understand the tutorial
Okay, so I watched it... It's all pretty clear with frame by frame explanation, so it really helps out, since for beginners we can start buffering it up. The other tutorial I watched showed that I only have 2 frames for the HESS to work so I was always super afraid to miss it, but it feels kinda more linear than I thought at first. Thanks a lot Arthur, you the man!
This worked out perfectly, thanks! In like 5m of trying I got it twice in a row and got it to a 15% success rate, which for 5m of practice starting from scratch is crazy! Thanks for the amazing tutorial!
can i do a regular super slide off of a backwalk bomb/chu drop without ESS position or am i getting the 4 hit sounds from the ESS position? HESSing is still a bit too difficult for me, and i want to spice up my rando playthroughs a bit and the regular super slide setup where you drop the bomb and wait takes too much time.
Hessing and supersliding is 2 different things. During a superslide you can only go straight, and yes you can do a backwalk superslide you cook one bomb while backwalking then drop it and quickly drop another one to roll into it and grab to get the superslide. Hessing takes a bit of time to get used to, but I'm sure you'll get there, just let time and muscle memory do its job :)
This vid is pretty old but man I'm 34 and just started speedrunning for the first time and chose OOT lol. Took me literally all day but I got HESS down thanks to this video thank you so much!!!!
@@ArthurOudini Oh. Maybe I wasn't paying attention to the beginning if there's a setup to approach it. I just sort of assumed the general vicinity of the sign would give you the explosion you need.
I’m probably going to get crucified for asking this but, can you do this on an Xbox one controller? I assume ess is a lot more precise on newer controllers?
hi Kellestial, no I'm not going to crucify anyone for any questions. It is possible on any controller, it's not super easy to get used to ess position no matter the controller. Something that can help is to set the sensitivity as low as possible, while still having link run for all the angles. Have fun with sliding !
It took me a bit to get it all nice, but it's me playing, yes. I was mostly missing the bomb hess ^^. It's not that crazy to be honest, you'll be that good in no time if you have fun with hess !
Arthur Oudini Thanks! Can't play the game because I don't have my pc and busy with other things right now. Thanks for being so specific, as I will need HESS for a TAS I will work on in the future.
Hi Arthur. So if I keep going forward when I try to hess its because I didn't press R And Z at the same time and/or didn't release them at the same time? Just clarifying theres no other way to go forward in a hess
there are many ways to go forward ! it could also be that you hit the explosion at the wrong time which means your roll timing was bad. Or if you did everything nicely it could be that your Z+R press was too late
Hey Will, this is a patched rom that we call GZ or the practice rom, it has an input display. Otherwise input displays are usually arduinos between controller and console.
@@yourpalwill9039 The input viewer down left of the screen is an arduino between my controller and my N64. It is also plugged to the computer and transmits my inputs to a program called nintendospy (which also is the program on the arduino). It's not very hard to do yourself if you have a soldering iron !
@@santiagovazquez1296 it depends on you drop and roll timing, usually it's 2 or 3 frames for Z+R, you have all precisions in the video and frame data in the description

My problem is that Navi keeps targeting the chu when I go to raise the shield. Any tips?

How do you get the joystick sensitivity input display?
this is part of the practice rom, you can find the patcher on practicerom.com/
How do you prevent targeting the sign so that your A press doesn't just read it?
Your position is too close to the sign if you read it, you should be out of range, what setup are you using ?

this video was recorded on N64
I'm asking for someone else that is begging to know, what is the name if your input viewer software?
it's called Nintendospy

Arthur Oudini does it usually mean the roll timing was late or early?
probabilities would say early ! ;)
Arthur Oudini loool ok. Ty
why does my hess goes really slow? am I doing it slow or something?
If you do things correctly it should always go same speed. Having it slow can be due to multiple things such as dropping the analog input
nice vid. keep it goin
im using an xbox controller any tips on threshold level and stuff like that i just wanted to try out a bunch of fun glitches
just set your range as low as possible while still having link to run in all directions.
@@ArthurOudini where do I change range?
What are the x values for ess with and without an adapter
it's [8;26] for both since those are the values received by the console. The adapter acts before the signal arrives to the console.
