Lvl wise, its also cheaper to combine the books before putting them on. Just make sure the book you make each time is always in the first slot, being added to a book with only one enchantment. Its a lot cheaper this way, than adding them one at a time to your armor.
I find soul speed II and III too scary to use in the nether. It's to easy to be scooting along over the soul sand and career off a hidden cliff into a lava lake or whatever!
Fair enough, I usually try to have fire resistance the whole time with elytra equipped so there's no instant deaths, then its a ton of fun to sort of surf through the soul sand valley!
14:22 Having two pieces of armor with one type of specialized protection is still inefficient as that totals 96% damage reduction in that type, with 16% wasted after the 80% cap. Having one piece with projectile projection and three pieces with general protection still provides the full 80% reduction to projectile damage, with 48% reduction to all other damage types. Because only one piece of armor needs to be specialized, I like to dedicate that special protection to the head slot with projectile protection on a turtle shell, fire protection on a gold helmet and blast protection on a diamond/netherite helmet.
@@Skuzzyyyy Exactly! If you want to maximize protection against a specific damage type it only takes a single piece of armor with that enchantment, so long as the other three have general protection.
Bedrock has an advantage over Java in terms of fire protection. The reduced burn time for fire protection is 15% times the level. This stacks in Bedrock so that you can get 100% less burn time if you have fire protection IV on one piece and III on another. However, in Java, it caps out at 60% no matter what, so you really only benefit from having level IV on one piece of armor. I'm not sure whether this difference in platforms applies to knockback reduction for blast protection.
@@Skuzzyyyy The idea behind using a gold helmet is that gold prevents piglins from being aggressive toward you and fire protection is useful in the nether, thus a gold fire prot 4 helm is good in the nether for exploring. I think I'd still prefer regular protection for exploring the nether fortresses and bastions as you'll be encountering melee mobs in there no matter what you do, but if you're just mining in the nether, the gold isn't a bad idea if you already have a villager hall and xp farm.
15:12 Also a fun note, because the enchantment’s damage reduction is applied after the armor, the value of the enchantment is reduced on stronger armor types (because the remaining damage is lower), meaning that Protection IV on a set of iron armor is putting in more work than the same enchantment on a set of diamond armor. So while there is a considerable difference in durability, the difference in damage reduction between fully enchanted sets of iron and diamond armor is relatively insignificant.
I started playing Minecraft in 1.18 so it was initially overwhelming having such an abundance of possibilities with regards to armor, weapons, and farms. Your videos perfectly breakdown both the mechanics and potential applications of the game into both comprehensive theory and actually gameplay context which is intellectually satisfying and has massive practical value. Your approach is much appreciated because of the concise nature of getting right to the point whilst providing exhaustive analysis of how and why things function as they do. I find myself constantly referring to your videos particularly with regards to brewing and villager trades which has in turn enriched my Minecraft world exponentially more than anything I would have ever anticipated. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!! I definitely try my best to keep the videos focused on what's practical and important and how to use these features most effectively.
Also, inorder to get these enchantments that he is, on the table, you need 15 bookshevles facing the table in a C around it. That is the max lvl enchantment table. 👍
You'd be surprised how much I have to leave out too, I've had 45 minutes of info on topics before, but oftentimes some of it isn't relevant to normal gameplay
It’s a complicated mechanic but basically after you have protection IV on two pieces of armor it will not register the the protection effect anymore. So basically go for protection IV on two pieces of armor and on the other piece do either blast, fire, or projectile protection.
@@tdworwoodno he's just a noob and it's a common misconception everyone always says that but EVERY good deep dive video that is about enchanting armor always says put all 4 with protection IV and that's been the exact same over all the years of Minecraft
Protection IV is never a waste even when on all 4 pieces, its specialized protection enchantments that are a waste to put on all four pieces, because it is SO effective that it hits the upper limit of 80% damage reduced after its on only 3 pieces, the max damage reduced from Protection IV only goes up to 64% (16% per piece) so it never hits the limit and is therefore always effective.
16:40 the turtle helmet also allows you to instantly regain all your breath by peeking above water for any amount of time. No more waiting to catch your breath while swimming!

My personal recommendation: have a couple of armor sets for different purposes. For example, I like to have a set with chestplate, leggings, boots and turtle shell, with enchantments for water exploration. I also usually only use Netherite armor for the Nether and Overworld, as it won’t be destroyed in lava, but if you fall in the void in the End, your stuff is gone.
I know for a fact they're going to change the fact that special types of the Protection enchantment are worth less than the main Protection enchantment. Mojang are not idiots.
You actually only need one piece of armor with a specialized protection enchant to reach the 80% cap. So 4% damage reduction x Level 4 x 3 Pieces = 48%. 8% damage reduction x Level 4 x 1 piece = 32%. 48% + 32% = exactly 80%. That's why a Fire Protection IV gold helmet or boots make sense for the nether because you still get almost full armor bars and get max fire protection and pacify piglins. (Also if you do boots instead of a helmet you'll get more durability and the ability to swap out Depth Strider (useless in the Nether) for Frost Walker to walk safely on magma. You're also more likely to be able to get Soul Speed III on gold boots.) Of course, that's without Elytra, so it may be worth it to have 1 piece of standard protection + 2 pieces of special protection which also equals exactly 80%.
Currently, fire resistance potions are cheap, and completely obliterate wasting an enchantment on Fire Protection. A shield mostly aids against blasts and projectiles. Once the fire, projectile, and blast Protections are revamped completely, that might make a use for them other than regular Protection IV.
Only thing that irritates me is that they did more work with armor, but they didn't decide to release copper armor and tools at the same time? That would have been sick
I always sort of hated how linear armor upgrading is in the sense that the player is always incentivized to go for netherite. One possible solution for that imo could that they could make "chained" versions of armor where it would not have any travel penalties. For example, wearing a full plate diamond armor provides more protection, but it would make the player travel 4% (or some amt.) slower or something similar to that. This way, players would have consider the tradeoff between safety and speed, which would make the game less linear and more interesting.
* An enchantment to make the Armor mostly invisible so a players skin that you worked hard to make shows through needs to be made. ** NOTE to point out: Leather boots allow you to walk on powdered snow and possible save your life. ** I fully enchant a gold helmet for the Nether since the normal helmet I wear does not help much in the Nether.
I thought netherite armor also gave a small amount of natural fire resistance compared to diamond armor. might just be a false thing I've heard, but it definitely feels like you barely take fire damage while wearing netherite, even without fire prot 4.
The easiest way to find a bastion is to locate it with chunkbase, and the easiest way to raid it is to ride a camel there and capture the piglins in boats, I also have a bastion guide: th-cam.com/video/P-kvGRmAruQ/w-d-xo.html That has even more info on how to raid bastions.
So if I understand this right if I want to make let's say another exploring set with fire protection I only run two pieces with fire protection and two pieces with protection to get the most overall Fire Protection
1 Fire 4 and 3 Prot 4 on diamond gear will let you swim in lava for over a minute before the armor gets destroyed from taking durability. You just have to have something like steak or golden carrots to keep your hunger bar filled
you don't even need fire protection. standard protection 4 on netherite still allows you to swim in lave until it breaks, given you have some food on you. more than enough, even if you fall into a massive lava pit in the nether.

The best netherite armor needs to have 2 peices of armor with fire protection with that you take no damage in lava
With 2 prices of fire protection on my armor I can stay in lava forever can u say the same with your all protection
Before I fight the ender dragon I often use half Netherite & half diamond armour. I don’t want to waste a lot of time grinding for Netherite.
3 protection and 1 specialized is 80%
16+16+16+32=80
Definitely one of the best combos
