I’d be thrilled with one of their chasers!! It is unfathomable their monthly expense just for crew. Your videos are outstanding. I’m moving to the lake-I’ll be excited to have a pontoon!
Being a former USN sailor, I must say that Octopus is a "sailors" ship (a place for everything and everything in its place). She has beautiful lines along with being functional. They broke the mold when they made her, but with that being said, I'd love to see a newer take on a lovely classic, maybe with some design cues from Andromeda / Ulysses.
Another great video Amigo.. Lady Moura was for a time berthed about 100kms from me at Denia on The Costa Blanca(North).. Have to say though that having a crew of 60+would scare the life out of me. It's a bit like the old saying about Rolls Royce's " If One has to ask about Operating costs, One obviously simply cannot afford one".. Octopus is still The Superyacht to admire.. but for me.. I like the versatility of the converted Royal Navy degaussing ship, Explorer type yacht "Bleu de Nimes"... but really do not need 28 in the owners party, so would convert several cabins into a fully equpped spa.. As soon as my Euromillions SuperJacpot ticket come up..!! LOL
After watching your channel for over a year and seeing some of the other prices out there, the lowest two seem completely affordable. 🤣 I was a little surprised the total amount was only half a billion.
After spending time watching super yacht videos, the prices of insanely large mansions seem low. Meanwhile, moderate sized homes are getting too expensive for many people to own.
@@Primalxbeast I think when viewing Superyachts like Octopus for example, it is more practical to compare the vessel to a floating village rather than just a single mansion.. The yacht has to be totally self contained, able to provide it's own power, water, etc. and deal with waste as well, also travel sometimes considerable distances, whereas a lavish mansion on land does not...
Don't know any "infamous" stories about "Lady Moura", but when the owner and his then wife Madam Mouna Ayoub were divorced she bought herself the 200 ft. plus 4 masted single handed, racing schooner, now called "Phocea" (originally raced by Eric Tabarly as "Club Mediterranea"). She refered to it as her "Divorce Present"..!! Phocea may no longer be in "service" as she had a chequered career having hit a reef and later having suffered a disastrous fire, I believe..

so i cant remember there was a official sale but yes she was listet this year but just went off the market like madsummer which was for sale for 229million but also went off the market with no more news about ... correct me if i am wrong
How much money is actually spend on material for the crew (food/uniforms/toiletries/etc.) on those kind of yachts and how much do you think should be spent?
@@Rasscasse That doesn't filter out how much gets spent on crew pay/benefits/uniforms/etc. That's the total for crew stuff, fuel, maintenance/repair, docking fees and everything else that is required to keep and use one of these things.
@@Rasscasse That I couldn't tell you. I'm nowhere close to the sort of person who could own a vessel like that. Best I can do is take a few SWAGs - on a big-ass boat, a captain would probably be making 200-250k USD a year. Mate would probably be like a hundred+, same for the engineer. Each deckhand and steward/ess would maybe be 50-60? Seems like there's multiple types of uniform that the crew wear, and there are probably a few of each to make sure that they've got fresh ones always at the ready (I mean, what self-respecting superyacht owner wants their crew to look like someone working on a cargo vessel, amirite?). So that's probably a couple thousand dollars per crewman per year. Food, depends on where they're getting it (If the crew are running out to supermarkets to fill up the larder when docked, it's probably cheaper than if they're getting a chandler to deliver at the dock, and that would be cheaper than getting it delivered while out on the water.) But just a wild guess, $40 per crewman per day? So add all that up for a rough - though ill informed and probably inaccurate - idea of how much the crew costs per year.
It is so cool to see my hometown in one of your videos. The part where Octopus is anchored in Rovinj - Croatia. Is it your footage or where did you found it? I would like to see more. I've spent a few days in the port shipspotting her and made a lot of nice photos. First time that I have seen her in Person. I made a video of her departure also and it was an incredible scene as she was sailing away into the sunset, such a magnificent yacht. She kept coming back to Rovinj trough this seasson, now I guess they were filimng some promo material. Do you have some more info? Great video as always. Best regards :)

so i am not sure but wasnt okto 39million Euro and if i am right she was sold in 2020 and Tranquility is still up for sale with Burgess for 149mio Euro
Could you - the if the info is available - do a video on exactly why MV Solo's speed was so low on her trials and the mechanisms by which it's failings were addressed? A bit technical but very fascinating for those of us who do more than look and gawp at these vessels!
That would normally be in conflict with the contractual agreements in place between the yard and the owner. Particularly as this was the first implementation of IMO Tier III on this size of yacht. Would be giving away technically competitive data to potential competitors. The yard might be willing to a technical share given the subject matter as it may lead to wider adoption of their in house expertise.
for the same length the price of solo and Azteca is basically the same, I know Azteca is bigger in volume but still, solo is just 3 years, how is that happend?
The large yachts require so many crew that you totally lose your privacy despite the efforts of the crew to avoid the owner. I like smaller crews on 50-60 meter vessels. (7-10 ideally) I would love you to do videos on two tech issues as you are the expert: 1. How effectively do European yachts handle 60 Hertz US shore power in the U S Caribbean. And what problems come up? 2. What is the most cost effective way to deal with internet when cruising both the Med and the Caribbean? Pep wave antenna vs Inmarsat vs coming Skylink.
@@YachtReport I rewatched your good video on Starlink but my takeaway was that Starlink is not yet working and Vsat is outrageously costly. It appears that 4G/5G via pep wave is the only value option but only if you cruise close to shore in the Med or Caribbean.
While I would love to be able to afford any one of these gems, my heart would be on Octopus. As a diver, I love its capabilities. I’ve always been enamored of her since I first saw pictures of her and her capabilities- especially the closing deck for the tenders. Ed one question I do have, on some yachts there is a large pole in the front in the bow, on Octopus it’s holing communication domes, but on other yachts with them I only see a light at top. Why do some yachts have this feature? It seems like it would cause a blind spot.
I believe someone said somewhere in the evening they need to put a light on, bit like a lighthouse. Also heard they might have it out when perhaps some work is being done somewhere on board?
How are these boats financed ? Are they leased, paid for with cash, borrowed for, are they assets of a company loaned to the CEO/Chairman etc ... Maybe my paper round would stretch to financing a small yacht !! Do you work over the Christmas and do owners generally use there boats for the holidays ? Stay Safe !!
A lot of financing on these yachts are extremely shady and sometimes outright illegal. A huge amount of superyacht owners are in the news for theft, war crimes, pyramid schemes and so on. And half of these yachts are sold within a few years and not because the owner wants to upgrade. A few yachts have even been seized over taxes or criminal finance investigations.
