A lot of people are confused as to why I re-uploaded this video. I asked for and received written permission from TH-camr DrDuu to use some of his footage in my videos. Then after this video went live he filed a copyright claim. So I’ve got to deal with that now with TH-cam. I’ve also had to pull two other videos that had some of his footage in.

It is good that you got it in writing. That is always a smart move when dealing with people. Hopefully when you deal with it having that piece of evidence will favor to you.

good luck. Sorry you have to deal with such idiots on youtube, but this content is really interesting. I'm glad you did both length and volume. What do we have to do to get one of these superyacht owners to buy the USS United States and fix it up? haha

This is by far the best one of these lists I've ever watched or read! Well done! I absolutely agree that gross tonnage is the correct measure. One small correction though: Azzam's MTUs (20V 8000 M91s) are rated for 9100 kW (12205hp) each for a total of 24,410hp, and the gas turbines (LM2500+G4s) are rated for 35,320 kW (47,370 hp) each - so Azzam really has 119,150 total hp!!!

If I was in a position to afford one of these, I would also go for the Octopus. I love it's modern history being involved in the recovery of the bell from the Hood, as well as locating the Musashi. If money was no factor, I would want to own said yacht, and continue having it used for such expeditions.

Nice video, best of all the "top ten yachts" type vids. For me in my fantasy world of owning one then volume probably counts for more, but if I was fantasising about a custom yacht I would list out the things I wanted and ask the best way to get them. The yacht would have to be beautiful and that I thnk means length would be slightly more important as I would not want a slab that looked like a nasty cruise liner. Anyway, nice intelligent little show, thanks eSysman.

You have mentioned Super Yacht's ages from time to time and how some are getting old. Perhaps you can do a video about some of the older SYs and what happens to some of them as they age. For the record my Favorite on the list is S/Y A. Love the feel of a ship under sails.

I’m not really a boaty person I confess, and my wallet doesn’t currently have the appropriate volume for such a purchase , but I do like looking at these beautifully designed water craft.
This video came up in my feed because I watched a video of the Flying Fox, which is a beautiful thing.
It doesn’t make your list here, but I’m using it as my benchmark and trying to find one in your list that I would prefer to that one.
I’m not sure I’ve found one yet.
I’m going to watch it again.
Thanks for uploading this eSysman, I found it enjoyable and informative to watch.

I think measuring size by volume is the way to go as that’s useable space... Azzam looks like it was designed at a specific size then stretched slightly to be the longest! Either way, I probably wouldn’t say no to any of the yachts on either list if someone wants to gift me one and cover the costs for a few years!

I’ve sailed on several cruise ships that are smaller than these yachts. These are simply crazy. I remember probably 40 or so years ago when the late Malcom Forbes in a Playboy interview discussed what were then super yachts over 35 or so meters. He said the best were FedShips and he said then that you had to make a million dollars a foot per year to properly keep up the vessel. Well in 1980, making over 150 million dollars a year was pretty rare and so were yachts that big. I can only wonder what he what he would think of these ships.

The problem with using length as the basis of measure is that you can get into the same problem skyscrapers have. Architects/owners use spires and other things to increase the height of their buildings without providing any functional or artistic benefit. The same seems to happen with super yachts, overly long prows or unnecessary bowsprits merely added to gain a few metres over the current record holder or closest competitor.

Anything above approximately 100 metres is not a mega yacht. It's more like a small or medium private cruise ship. For example one must sail at least a quarter of a mile from the shoreline with such a "mega yacht". 60-100 metres yachts are the real mega yachts, but even this size range has many limitations when trying to approach the shores. For example, you must often use a tender or otherwise swim with the sharks...

The guy behind the triple deuce is a brokerage pirate, who encourages prospective clients to find a boat with a different broker and then switch to him at the last minute because he can offer a lower closing cost because he doesn't have the price of actually being a broker in his overhead. You can find his channel on youtube, he puts together videos with a second hand model of an out of production production yacht in a dimly lit cinderblock walled basement "office" with ikea furniture.

I think by both it has to have a wow factor spending all that money , and it gas to stick out when the owner arrives on his pri helicopter.

My all-time favorite is still Octopus. Luxury with bleding-edge marine exploration capabilities. What could possibly be more fun about being on the ocean than exploring?
On that note, does anyone have ~$400m to lend me? (Gotta factor in running costs)
P.S. is anyone *really* surprised Fox grabbed the fake yacht story?
