It takes a VERY conscious effort, but if you stay out of the turbo, the gas mileage is very close to the non- turbo version, with all the power on tap should it be needed.
Your town isn't city driving. It's more like rural driving. It's also super flat where you are. It's like you're in a coastal area in the east or in the gulf. With that said, I'm in MD. When I drive on the eastern shore, where the topography looks like your video, I always exceed my rated fuel mileage. Once I get on the western shore, it's it a different story. Especially if I have to drive in Baltimore or DC. BTW, your real world MPG is more because the testing is more realistic than where your driving.
It doesn't matter whether it is super flat or it's not, we do the second have in reverse order to negate climate and terrain. I drive the same route, the same way, with every car and some are better and some are worse. Thanks for watching.
Nice job. However, I noticed that after you initially filled your tank your total range was 290 miles but towards the end of the test you were registering about 410 mile range. Would you be able to expand on this? Does the computer lag in its range calculations?
Yes, it doesn't recalculate right away. When i reached the 1st town, it had gone up to 320 miles and kept going up from there. I believe at one point in the video it was around 500....not positive on that...
My sister-in-law has a 2016 outback non Turbo and it lacks serious power though. She is always complaining when trying to pass people or going up big hills...but she loves it and keeps driving it. They bought it new and won't own anything but a Subaru!

It does seem to be very close to the non-turbo when you drive conservatively.
The Turbo is still well worth it. Very fun to drive!❤
It sure is!
Love the looks and the size but will I get 200,000 plus miles out of the Subaru?? That is my only concern.
It seems to be a reliable car, I have heard a lot of good things about it and the engine is pretty good.

Loved my Subaru, but my BMW X1 Turbo get better gas mileage!❤
Fantastic . I have a Forester 2.5 that. gets. about 1 MPG better than the Outback XT .
That's a good result.
that is really good mileage for what that car is. any sense of how frequently the engine spooled up the turbo?
Essentially, everything we accelerate the Turbo spools up, maybe not to max psi but it does spool up.
Tire pressure should be +. 2 from door post.
We set tire pressures before the test.
Base Model beats da hell out the Turbo and lasts much much longer.
