That detail in the photo is really disturbing, but I think the fact of punishing the player that way is just bad, you complete the game and still get a bad ending, that is just wrong
This is actually a pretty damn creepy and disturbing video to me for some reason. Maybe it's because Halloween is close or it's my inner child self crying in fear and despair. I wouldn't have been able to sleep if I saw this as a child. It's like finding nothing at the end of SNES Prince of Persia but a game over when not finishing the game in time. But with that game, there's an explicit timer whereas this one doesn't tell you how many tries you have left before you get the bad ending. Chills. The fangs make it so much worse.
I'd love to hear a music theory teacher's analysis of this game's music, especially the Continue theme. I'm totally a layman to this, but if I recall the way music theory works, at least in terms of why some songs affect us the way they do, it's because the traveling of audible sounds, from one octave to another or from major to minor, triggers a similar response in our brains? So a person might find a part of a song particularly stirring if during a crescendo the song also goes from minor to major or has a dramatic octave change; in terms of happy songs, this gives our brains a sense of euphoria or familiarity, as we hear the melody return to a sound deemed "safer" by our minds. At least, if I'm remembering this kind of thing properly. That Continue theme in particular, though...I can't stop listening to it. The melody sounds like a perfect balance between gloom and mourning, yet also calm, and given the intended context of the photo, serene and peaceful. It's exactly how you might feel if you (as a person who was invested in the welfare of the protagonist) stumbled upon the lone corpse of Kyle, and perhaps next to his body found this photo. Holding in your hands a happy memory you know will never again come to be, it's so poignant you could swear you can't even look at Erin without seeing things, imagining her now sealed fate. That Continue theme is like, what the inside of your brain would sound like at that moment. A brilliant composition, given the context, yet so simple!
The composer for this game (Masanao Akahori) has done quite a few OSTs for games in the SNES era, and personally I quite like his works, especially on the sound design side of things and with the way he uses the sound channels of the SNES to give off such a full sound for a lot of his stuff; it's too bad he hasn't done anything ever since that time tho it looks like, dude's hella good haha If you want more of his compositions, Brain Lord is a good one to check out; it's actually one of my favorites by him too :P

To those asking if Git is a man or woman...she's both, depending on the time line. When you're continually going back in time and time traveling, as he sometimes does when she needs to defeat a witch who cursed his twin or something, sometimes the changes she makes cause him to be born a woman, or be born a man, it varies. So, Git is a woman today, but his next adventure may cause her to be born a man in the past tomorrow.
Bad ending= your wife and you end up as vampires with eternal good looks, health benefits for eternal life. A brand new awesome castle to enjoy that's clearly built to last, no Belmont in sight and you can party all night!..................... did I miss something here? Or are you sure this is-int the good ending after all?
Reminds me a lot of Clock Tower at first... *shivers* (1:49) That movement looks a lot like in the original Prince of Persias. Oh gosh, just the thought of these two combined makes me speechless. (3:13) Erm, don't all of them? The cellar (or whatever it is) is still part of the castle.
A CBE Halloween special, I guess. BTW, next time you make a Halloween special, you should take a look at the endings of Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption. It's a fine game, and I'm sure it'll be creepy enough for this series.
I'm glad that vampires never existed, otherwise a creepy bad ending (like the one here) would have happened. For those who don't want vampires to exist in real life (if people could make fictional beings real), if they're interested to comment to this reply, say "NO WAY JOSE!", I'll start here, NO WAY JOSE! But for those who want vampires to exist (which I don't), just say " YES!"
It would be more creepy if the girl didnt appear in the photo...only Kyle smiling and Erin is there...but you dont see her because she has no reflection
they love each other, both are immortal, and he just killed a vampire lord who had a mountain, 5 mansions and a castle... join his wife in the life of a vampire sounds kinda good.
So many have ventured into that vampire's castle and none returned, till Kyle went there and fought his way in using his fists? And that vampire was also able to transform into a wolf?
This is so freaky, for the game to provide such a tiny yet unnerving visual to clue that the person you're going to rescue is already lost - before letting you continue your doomed adventure. If only the gameplay had been acceptable, this game would be a masterpiece.

You are the hero TH-cam needs! I so agree on the little but disturbing details... Didn't see it myself!
I can just imagine that the game over is just the game saying : YOU FOOKED UP. DONT DIE 8 TIMES .
Fun fact: They called a dark magic weapon on Fe "Nosferatu" which steals enemy HP
This game was insanely difficult. I don't know if there were some nuances in the combat that I missed or if the game was just terrible.
Damn, Nosferatu's so evil, that even the stages map is trying to protect Erin from him.
Is it just me, or is the continue screen music the creepiest thing about this whole game?
Magnafiend true....when i was 11 i heard that music and played again...but in the third game over i shit myself...then i start playing "Megaman and Bass" then i feel better :3
I need to miss but i can't i'm freaking out because of the game over screen
Are you sure this game isn't inspired by Robin's Down-B from Smash 4 either?
WOW. I thought I was feeling disturbed and creeped out about the bad ending stuff, but then Lub Lub. That's far scarier.
Being a vampire sucks.
Ba-dum-tsss
"Now you get to join your wife in the life of a vampire."
I'm sorry, where's the bad ending?
To those asking if Git is a man or woman...she's both, depending on the time line. When you're continually going back in time and time traveling, as he sometimes does when she needs to defeat a witch who cursed his twin or something, sometimes the changes she makes cause him to be born a woman, or be born a man, it varies. So, Git is a woman today, but his next adventure may cause her to be born a man in the past tomorrow.
Whoisthisgit lore turned out to be weirder than I thought.
Its the best ending ever!
Awesome that you can still find cool bad endings from games few have heard of almost 50 in.
Reminds me a lot of Clock Tower at first... *shivers*
(1:49) That movement looks a lot like in the original Prince of Persias. Oh gosh, just the thought of these two combined makes me speechless.
(3:13) Erm, don't all of them? The cellar (or whatever it is) is still part of the castle.
Could you do an episode on I have no mouth, And I must scream and time soon?
Also the animations in this game are surprisingly good
Dang it. Should've tried harder for that good end.
Who the hell punches a vampire to death?
Kyle: I do!
That means hes still alive to take revenge...
Kyle: ... oh shit...
Just played this game recently. It's a good game with scattered times of frustration.
It took me 6 freaking month but I finally manage to watch all of your videos :D !!!!! You're really someone amazing
A CBE Halloween special, I guess. BTW, next time you make a Halloween special, you should take a look at the endings of Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption. It's a fine game, and I'm sure it'll be creepy enough for this series.
Damn, Nosferatu is like a cross between Prince of Persia and Castlevania!😲
That was the most creative bad ending ever!
But for those who want vampires to exist (which I don't), just say " YES!"
great video. You explaneid so much in few words.
Is it me, or does Kyle on the game over screen kinda look like Peter Parker? Specifically, the Insomniac one before the face change.
It would be more creepy if the girl didnt appear in the photo...only Kyle smiling and Erin is there...but you dont see her because she has no reflection
So...the vampire transforms Erin in a vampire instead of kill her.
Just wh-ah, Wright because the game wouldn't have any type of play.
Ngl, that continue screen music is really soothing.
5:40
You know you fucked up when you see this.
Definitely one of the best soundtracks out there.
DAMN, that title music!
Wow this games music is terrifying and unsettling.
they love each other, both are immortal, and he just killed a vampire lord who had a mountain, 5 mansions and a castle... join his wife in the life of a vampire sounds kinda good.
So many have ventured into that vampire's castle and none returned, till Kyle went there and fought his way in using his fists?
And that vampire was also able to transform into a wolf?
that thing with Erin and the teeth is fucking creepy
This is so freaky, for the game to provide such a tiny yet unnerving visual to clue that the person you're going to rescue is already lost - before letting you continue your doomed adventure. If only the gameplay had been acceptable, this game would be a masterpiece.
