    Thanks for the video
    Great work
    I have been growing dwarf hair grass ina a bucket in my roof top
    It was kept in direct sunlight with dirt substrate
    It was full of alge
    Until I added some hornwort from my pond
    And after a few days alge started reducing plants started to thrive
    And I see this little things in my water running around
    I didn't know what it was and still i am not confident what it is
    But seeing this video
    It looks some thing like the seed shrimp
    If it is
    They are awesome
    Keep up the good work
    Your experimentation helps many people

      The temperature in my apartment is about 72-76 F all year around. It is comfortable temperature for guppies as well. Therefore, I don't use any additional heaters or coolers for them ;)

    What species of land moss do you put in the containers.

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for the question!
      There are type of Bryum and Hypnum moss among some other that I am not sure about their names yet.
      TH-cam user James Merryman th-cam.com/channels/4oKTP9X9KofziDr1psslMg.html
      Identified my Bryum moss as Silver Thread Moss (Bryum argenteum). I yet have to clarify the name and will make another video for it. The video about Hypnum moss is coming next Monday.
      I will make videos about other mosses that I try if they grow good underwater or show some interest for me. You will find details on each type of the moss in this playlist (I will add new videos as I make them): th-cam.com/video/QTc5RTr7Rq4/w-d-xo.html

    I was wondering could they help with ammonia? im worried becuse i have fish in an eycosphere and for some reason the water is going foggy

    • @4me
      @4me  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They can directly or indirectly. Also, algae - common green algae is what feeds on ammonia.
      Algae, tiny critters, and pants put together work great to prevent ammonia and other waste spikes in water. Though, it is best to prevent than treat.

    how to make dechlorinated water

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you for the question!
      It takes about 24 hours for chlorine to evaporate from top (regular) water. Keep the top water in an open jar over a night (24 hours) to dechlorinate it. Then it is safe to drink or use in aquariums ;)

    • @RazgrisFloob
      @RazgrisFloob 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is terrible advice that will kill your fish. Most tap water is today treated with chloramines, which aren't volatile and don't just boil off. If you want to remove them you need either a de-chlorinator (that specifically mentions that it removes chloramines) or a filter rated for the job.

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I live in NY. Drinkable tap water in New York is not treated with chloramines for public consumption.
      All aquariums shown in my videos filled with water dechlorinated as I described.

    • @RazgrisFloob
      @RazgrisFloob 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That doesn't excuse giving it out as advice to anyone and everyone on the internet.

    How long seed shrimp will live. Does it need salt water?

    • @4me
      @4me  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have fresh water aquariums and familare only with freshwater seed shrimp. There are different strains of seed shrimp. I never managed to separate/ keep one individual shrimp to check on lifespan. My seed shrimp seems to live more than couple months for sure while growing up to couple millimeters. Suppose they may grow even larger, but my fish would it the large seed shrimp right away.
      All the best!

    How do you not need a filter and a heater

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the question:
      The temperature in my aquarium is about 72-76 F all year around. It is comfortable temperature for guppies. Therefore, they don't need additional heaters or coolers.
      The filtering is done by similar means as in nature. Algae, bacteria, little aquatic critters, plants - they all are part of it. You may want to check videos on this playlist for more details on my previous (I use filters before 2017) and present (from beginning of 2017) aquarium fish care: th-cam.com/video/5v6OelF1oeU/w-d-xo.html
      PS: I use algae scrubber HOG.5 in one of my aquariums. I consider it to be the best filter and more than filter.

    • @liamsaban5536
      @liamsaban5536 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you make it 72-76 f without a heater

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's done by automated heating/ cooling system. Thermometers are installed in each room to take measurements and turn on/off electrical heater or air conditioner in each room separately.

    • @liamsaban5536
      @liamsaban5536 6 ปีที่แล้ว
