      Michael Langerman can you make a video about how to get fry grow faster
      I have problem with one fry that i named "Carl" he is a 2 month Guppy fry he looks like a 2 weeks
      Old one! Meanwhile my other fry are colurful and more bigger. Can you give me tips?

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! I am trying to breed them small and you are trying to get them larger :))
      It could be smaller than siblings for number of reasons...I would move this small fry in a separate nursery and let it grow there without any stress from larger fish.
      Generally, you may need to cull any small/ week/ seek/ unwanted fry as soon as possible to keep your strain purity.

    What started you making these little aquariums? You have such dedication to them.
    There is a nice amount of moss growing in my front garden. I’m going to try growing it underwater!
    Where do you find your seed shrimp, daphnia and cyclops ?
    I have 3 small aquariums full of pond snails.

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you for the questions!!!
      My little aquariums adventure started with...gaming mouse package :) Here it is: th-cam.com/video/jm2D4-dnKqg/w-d-xo.html
      Though, it were negative comments on my first plastic bottle aquarium (you probably watched it: th-cam.com/video/2tnqo1m_Oxs/w-d-xo.html) that pushed me to ask questions about aquarium sizes. I am very grateful for those comments! I could not find decent answers on my questions, only recommendations - I've been following those for all my life for fish keeping, but those recommendations don't stand reality check and don't have good reasoning to support them. The more I asked about this matters...well, dedication comes from seen benefits for me and people in making small but suitable for fish natural aquariums. I could not buy this type aquariums or fish suitable for it in a store. So, I make it ;) There is a long way to go yet...but even the results that I have so far are positive and promising :)
      Land moss - I am working on couple more videos about land moss. It's important to wash it thoroughly. Keep samples in dechlorinated water. Check on it daily for bad odor or mold on water surface. Wash moss again if you see any of those signs. A couple weeks without those signs or if moss starts growing - that's all mean it adapted well and ready to be checked with fish ;) some types of fish eat moss like crazy!
      I got all my little tiny critters (and snails) from ponds of Central park NYC. Warm season is the best time to pick them. They love warm water and algae for food. At winter I found only cyclopes (last month samples ;) You will find them easy pulling out some aquatic plants or filamentous algae. This video should help with details: th-cam.com/video/mQb7cKeTKqA/w-d-xo.html
      All the best on your new adventure!

      I have some projects to share with regards for aquariums, plants in aquariums and etc. All of them kind of related to each other in different ways. And there are always old aquariums with fish on the background - for everyone to see them ;)
      I lost two adult males in the past month...and got many newborn fry...you can look up the most updated info on this page: docs.google.com/document/d/1lfHyYHmW2u-9aYqA8X19pGkENQpSqnF9w1bvg9Nvha0/pub

    • @4me
      @4me  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. That is the short answer.
      The long answer is way too long to put in comments...
      You can add any algae feeders and plants - the combination of those makes the best. I've been working on number of videos to explain it ;)
      All the best on your adventure!

    It could last for years though only if there're bacterias existed in the water that can convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate.

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could last indeed. Only I think it's bacteria along won't do much for critters and snails would prefer to eat algae. And algae consumes ammonia, nitrite and nitrate too.

    I'd love to make one of these, and I can buy the moss from somewhere in my city, but the only issue is that I cannot find seed shrimp, daphnia and/or cyclops anywhere. Can we add anything else (anything else live) to the bottle aquarium to make it self sustaining? I live in a concrete jungle with no ponds or lakes nearby open to visitors. Thanks, Sir!

    • @4me
      @4me  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I live in New York concrete jungle...lucky for me there there ponds, rivers and ocean :)
      There are many critters in the Nature that feed on algae. I make videos only about those that I find or buy and only about them I can tell you for sure. Certainly one can buy online whatever is for sale...but I would first look in pet stores or even better ask friends, coworkers, family - people keep aquariums and love to share knowledge and whatever spare they have.
      All the best on your adventure!

    I have a question what do you do with your guppy babies i want to breed them small and what should i do with the ones that are not good for breeding

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for asking!
      I want to breed them small too!
      I use selective breeding. Let babies grow to maturity (when you can distinguish gender). Then separate the smallest (it is the desirable trait for us). Let them breed. Repeat it. Breeding a specific desirable strain in this way is long process that takes many generation of fish to achieve desirable results - if ever. There is a problem! The smallest fish is often is the weakest/ sick/ infertile and etc.
      Another approach is to crossbreed guppy with other similar small fish (Endlers for example). I don't follow this way.
      Also, environmental conditions (food, space and etc) can be leverage along the way.
      You may get some more details on what and how I do from videos on this playlist: th-cam.com/video/BUAu9vM_T0M/w-d-xo.html
      And here is some data I put on one page: docs.google.com/document/d/1lfHyYHmW2u-9aYqA8X19pGkENQpSqnF9w1bvg9Nvha0/pub
      All the best!

      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Get rid of the fish that is not good for your purpose. How to do it is up to you. Give it away , keep it in a community aquarium, use it as feeding for other larger fish or animals.

    nice project! do you have some tips for my natural ecosphere?

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for asking!
      I see some cyclopes. Cyclopes eat algae. They are harmless to fish - fish eat them. I have them from pond with daphnia and seed shrimps. They all cool - harmless. Some of your critters look like seed shrimps. You may discover worm like critters at the bottom, if you look ;) Most of those critters feed on algae. You can add a pinch of fish food once in a while to keep them happy.
      I would setup couple tanks and try to separate different types of critters (using pipette) for breeding and further experiments. There could be some harmful bacteria and critters for fish.
      Look through videos on this playlist for more details: th-cam.com/video/5v6OelF1oeU/w-d-xo.html

    where to find gravels?

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for asking!
      You can buy gravel at pet stores, gardening/ flower stores and etc.
      I asked local construction guys for handful of gravel - they give me half of a bucket after I explained what I need it for.
      You can find gravel at the beach or near water bodies or...everywhere else - gravel/ paddles are just a pile of rocks of about the same size. Most kids digging on a beach would be happy to help you get a handful of rocks of certain size ;)
      Best regards!

    In something like this, guppies would likely die soon after being put in. I recommend against it, but do as you please

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!
      I am clearly not ready to put my guppies in self-sustaining aquarium. There are numbers of problems that I deem need to be resolved to allow any fish (including guppies) to keep in self-sustaining aquariums. That is where I am gearing up with experiments.
      What is your recommendation for building self-sustaining aquarium for guppies?

    • @tpaytas4004
      @tpaytas4004 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Langerman I wouldn’t truely know myself. They’d need a constant food source, and I wouldn’t really know if algae would be enough. Sounds interesting though, good luck to you!

    • @4me
      @4me  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much!
      Diet of wild guppies consist of different food. Insects and algae (remains of algae) are primary sources.
      I have ongoing experiment with filamentous algae and seed shrimps. Seed shrimps gets eaten by fish rather fast, though there are some lurking in clusters of filamentous algae where fish cannot get them. Filamentous algae on the other hand grows doubling its amount in a matter of couple weeks. That posses a problem - it leaves no room for fish to swim...I am going to share more details about it in future videos. Mean time I am considering some other fast growing plants for this project. Another seems to be interesting idea is to build a nursery for growing food (plants and/or critters) right inside of the aquarium with fish ;)
      Also, the size of fish matters a lot for the size of this aquarium. The smaller fish need less food and less aquarium in general making it more desirable for this project. Breeding dwarf strain of guppy would help ;)
      All the best!

    Привет, друг .. Я слежу за твоими замечательными видео
    Я экспериментировал с растущими водорослями в воде
    В зависимости от метода реализации, который вы определили
    Я косил водоросли в воде в течение одного дня, я вижу, что водоросли производят в воде зеленый краситель во время вливания
    Почему?
    Извините, переводчик использовал русский
    С моими приветствиями, Дэвид

      Спасибо за вопрос!
      Мне удобнее общаться на вашем родном (любом) языке. При необходимости я сам воспользуюсь переводчиком или попрошу вас уточнить ;)
      Зелёный краситель скорее всего является ничем иным как микроскопическими водорослями (in English - algae). Они присутствуют в воде не зависимо, до того как вы подрезали растения. Присутствие этих микроскопический водорослей можно и нужно регулировать уменьшая доступное для них питание и свет. Более подробную информацию о том как я это делаю увидете в этих фильмах: th-cam.com/video/VyjeDFyoDb8/w-d-xo.html

      Я не это имею в виду. Я последовал за Федхо, который я отправил
      Я имею в виду, когда водоросли расцветают в начале первого шага в течение дня
      Затем переносится в фиксированный бассейн
      Когда вы тонете, эти водоросли выпускаются одновременно, а цвет воды меняется на зеленый?
      Я купил эти водоросли через мой сайт извне
      Благодарю вас!
