- In its show surveying gay content in the movies, the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles commissioned choreographer Preston Mui to devise this touching dance sequence to accompany the chorus in a medley of songs from the film "Brokeback Mountain." Dance performed by Will Cabrera and Preston Mui. Filmed at the Alex Theatre, June 2018.

This reminds me of "Pink Shirt Day". Celebrated annually around the globe, Pink Shirt Day began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying, after a peer was bullied for wearing a pink shirt.
Hosted by Leslie Jordan, the show was entitled "The Pink Carpet," hence the colorful attire. Seemed appropriate for a show about gays in the movies, yes? At the dress rehearsal many of us suddenly recalled Pink Shirt Days too.

This story has been told in many ways--as a short story, as a film, by guitar music, and here through dance, piano, and perfect harmonies. Thanks to all for adding new dimensions to the beauty of deep suffering.

Why did they repeat this performance??
The success of our initial "Brokeback Mountain Medley" performance in 2012 led to many requests to perform it again. For this new version, choreographer and dancer Preston Mui devised a heartbreaking ballet sequence. Weeks later, Preston was hired to join the Broadway company of "Hamilton" (which resumes on Broadway in September). This video is a fitting tribute to our singers, a memorable gay-themed movie, and the unmatched talents of a magnificent dancer and choreographer.
