  • The 2 most common ethical sales concerns: “I don’t feel right selling hail damaged roofs that look fine now?” AND “My customer said that the damage was minor and they didn’t want to file a claim. How can I ethically sell them a new roof?” Here are 3 ethical reasons to replace hail damaged roofs. Even if it's not leaking or looks fine now.

How to approach minimal hail damage and how to approach people filing a claim when it is not hail damage.

@@jeffskio Great question man! I did a video on this topic a while back, but I may need to update and refresh it :) Watch it here: th-cam.com/video/veDAfcZmUZU/w-d-xo.html If I left you with unanswered questions, drop a comment and I'll respond or make a new video :)

Excellent explanation Adam! And just a heads up for those commercial roofers, they can do a square sample with a sawzall. When they take the sample apart, you’ll be able to see if the roofing material and/or insulation has been damaged from looking at the bottom side. Sometimes we need a microscope to see if there’s any micro fractures. Those micro fractures commonly turn into leeks within a year or two. Your three steps will certainly inspire roofers to help the owners not make an uneducated decision.

Shoutout from Virginia! I love what you’re doing for this industry. Nobody really asked you to, but you saw a need that you could fill and you’re doing a great job filling it. Here’s a challenge from a sales man going on 10 years in insurance sales who also has adjuster experience and thinks he knows it all lol… how would you supplement an insurance claim that has been written in Symbility and is extremely low compared to other similar properties in the same neighborhood? From my experience any company utilizing Symbility will not consider an Xactimate estimate.

Thanks for the comment and for the kind words! Super great question. Yes - Symbility can pay lower. At the same time, we always supplemented in Xactimate. They rarely paid off it, but they did adjust their line items in response to our Xactimate. Truth be told - this whole world of supplementing is not my area of expertise. My focus is sales and marketing. So you have 2 options. #1) Supplement on Xactimate and work line item by line item. #2) Get an expert involved (supplement company, PA, etc.). Wish I could be of more help! Again - appreciate the comment and glad to have you here.

Thanks for all your videos. I'm new in roofing sells and your videos helped calm my fears. However now I'm alil disheartened. Its my first week and I got a brunch of no's and a few maybes. My boss says I'm doing great and have alot of promise. My family however is doing everything they can to stop me from changing jobs..any advice?

I know you were asking Adam, but I felt like offering something I do when I am low on sales. Critique yourself after each interaction and ask yourself would do you buy from you. No? Then why, What reasons would you not buy from yourself in that situation. Best of luck brother.

Joshua Maldonado - I faced a very similar experience - especially from family who was apprehensive about this whole commission only thing. This video may help you and includes the advice I would give you if were talking face to face: th-cam.com/video/2rSo73xwCxI/w-d-xo.html After that, consider watching this playlist on staying motivated: th-cam.com/play/PLZ20p_mXvgkXT-CUZGn-jj-B_iZy4pH8R.html Hope these help!

Just one week? It took me a good month to get just 3 claims. Can't give up that quickly!
It is difficult to sell something you don't believe in. If there is actually severe hail damage that can actually cause issues, and you can actually help the home owner ethically without just taking advantage of their insurance, then you shouldn't have a problem with it. If you are just seeing the slightest signs of hail damage and trying to convince them to replace their roof, this is unethical and a waste of materials - but does help stimulate the economy. I was a door to door roofing salesman, and it just didn't sit right with me. You have got to be a certain type of individual to do well in roofing sales.
You have to find homeowners with old roofs that also want to take advantage of their insurance company - which you will find. It is a numbers game. I am in the Chicago-land area, so the hail damage isn't that extreme.
BTW, my manager also blew a bunch of steam up my ass to raise my confidence and keep me knocking. Remember, they are in sales, too. Good salesman are so damn persuasive and charismatic - which are fantastic traits.

This is gross. We wonder why insurance premiums are becoming unaffordable.

I didn't realize that the ACV portion was blocked. Either way - ACV policies DO exist.
