  • See how Mr D reviews a location. This location received a Red Flag for recreational kayaking.

    the whole peace river has alligators. the whole lower state has them it's natural for trees and things. that's what make kayaking kayaking! 🙂

    Yep, gators are abundant in the Peace River, regardless if one sees fish jumping or not. Water is usually low when the snow birds visit because it's the dry winter season. During the rainy season the water can reach the parking lot there.

    Thanks for this.
    Yep sometimes rivers are wild and unforgiving.

      I don’t mind a wild river but this place was just a mess and a waste of time. Thanks for watching

    Thanks for the warning. I live in Sarasota and have thought about kayaking, or something, down the river. Looking at the same area from top down satellite shows how the river is so narrow by 60 that it’s hard to trace it in the trees.
    I don’t see the “not so peaceful” though.
    You didn’t say what season it was or if it had rained at all so I can’t tell if those were average conditions.
    Just up US 60 the river starts. Down a ways there are other launch points and a probably easier journey.
    Born and raised in Florida as were my parents.

      Yup Barry, as a recreational kayaking location, that place did not make the cut. Only being able to kayak a half mile in either direction is a total waste of time. As on the Peace river there are several great launch sites. This one however is not one of them.

      Not when you’re 72 years old and live in gator infested waters.

      @@DaleMrDSimmons Ive portaged around that exact spot. It's a fantastic paddle past it. The gators dont bother ya. just Florida Swamp Puppies.

    Hey Dale, It's not called Passable River. It's called Peace River. Looked peaceful to me. Made me nervous, though, when you mentioned gator mating season. They might protest. What is the Florida Park Service policy on felled trees across river? Would they cut it away to make the river more passable or is that the intention? Just seemed a bit more rain and a chainsaw and you're on your way.

      That particular launch is controlled by Polk County, so Florida Parks would not have jurisdiction. Also, I did not see any Florida Water Authority signs. So I don’t really don’t know who is responsible for that particular waters, but I’m thinking Polk County.

    What ramp did you use?

    • @DaleMrDSimmons
      @DaleMrDSimmons  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was no ramp just a mud and grass launch

      Was it a park?
      We we usually go through Gardner
      or Zolfo Springs boat ramp. I’m trying to figure what part of the river you were at..

    • @DaleMrDSimmons
      @DaleMrDSimmons  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robertrodriguez2491 no it was just a city launch site at an end of a bridge. I’ve used Zolfo and would highly recommend it over this location. Thanks for watching
