    Easily animate falling leaves. Driftings and flowing, deforming along the path. No simulations. No plugins. Just simple puppet pin and motion path manipulations. As relaxing as an autumn day.

    I absolutely admire your ability to make something seemingly so simple completely within After Effects. The design is really nice, I’m really diggin’ the style. Thanks for the ever helpful tuts.

      Well, thank you very much. There is no limit to what can be done in Ae (in my opinion). It was near to work in a style I don't typically employ.

    Thanks for the tut!:)
    I made a little expression if you don‘t want to keyframe the rotation:
    *yourFramerate=25;* //put your Framerate in here
    *x=transform.position.valueAtTime(time)[0];* //the position of the leaf
    *y=transform.position.valueAtTime(time+1/yourFramerate)[0];* //the position of the leaf one frame ahead
    *if(y>x) value+0;* //if the leaf falls to the right - don‘t turn
    *else value+180;* //if the leaf falls to the left - turn

    Is "Freeze Frame" a faster method than "Enable Time Remapping" in a longer Comp and keyframing one frame only (which might make it easier to pick different iterations/variations made in the template "leave"?

    this is exactly what i needed! now how do i create a shadow for this same object?

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might use the drop shadow effect, or maybe a copy of the same layer but with a fill on it? Does that help?

  • @gnvw
    @gnvw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great tutorial! Except I encounter rotation issues. After I auto-orient, it starts to flip on the Y axis but shows no values in my rotations. So i manually key in the rotation values which are not consistent and toggle hold but that just makes it worse..Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but thanks anyway for making an amusing tutorial to follow along.

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The layer will orient along the motion path. Check the bezier handles on the motion path. That might clear up what's going on. You will need to invert the rotation to account for hard turns and corners though.

    Hi Abrams I have a problem with exactly what you say at min 12.03.
    I'm using a pre-composition (with inside the shape layer), but when I put a pin on it, using the puppet tool, the layer results too pixelated... even if I am not collapsing transformations! So I don't know what could I do to fix it... do you have any tips? Thanks in advance.

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you will want to use a much bigger leaf and scale down. Puppet pin bust rasterize to make the deformation mesh.

      could be something bad with the install. I would just turn it off and on again. And if that doesn't work, reinstall Ae.

    Abrams I am desesperate, I can't reprodruce the trees like you do. I have play around with the effects but I can't get it right, might be the curves effect. At 19.11 you go through the effect but without the details, what setting are you using with the effects ?

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think for the curves I just make the curve more steep to crush the values or make them more extreme. Does that make sense?

    The tutorial was great, I just had a problem at the end when applying tint, the pattern didn’t remain a solid, Once It followed the path the pattern moved around, I think I may have clicked something by accident 😫

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like you're looking at the Value graph. you'll want to switch to look at the Speed graph in the graph's view options down at the bottom of the panel. I hope that helps.

  • @kieranlefort

    Great tutorial, but please show us how you did the trees. Mine look terrible and nothing like yours here! 😆

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks. We use the same process as the leaf texture, but with different rotation and scale options inside the fractal. It can take some experimentation to dial in how you want it to look, but it's worth it to understand what dials change which parts of the effect. Does that make sense?

    • @kieranlefort
      @kieranlefort 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ECAbrams It does. I've done some tweaking and made things look better, but your tree bark somehow looks simultaneously more defined AND softer than mine, and the faux lighting with the gradient and curves never quite looks right. Mine always looks more like a log on fire than an actual abstract tree. I suspect some blend mode or adjustment layer shenanigans in the final comp. 😄

    • @ECAbrams
      @ECAbrams  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kieranlefort Could be the types of grain I'm using. But a lot of it is down to levels of detail or complexity in the fractal. The big thing is to have further objects be less distinct than close objects. I think I tried to fake a focal plane with little amounts of gauss blur in there too.

    • @kieranlefort
      @kieranlefort 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ECAbrams Yeah, I've just started applying some blurs to things. I always enjoy faking three-dimensional DOF with 2D layers.
