    Why did you chose to have the shells get thinner as the diameter got bigger? They obviously sound INSANE but I’m curious about the logic behind it.

    • @AaronHoller
      @AaronHoller  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wanted to change the thickness of the shells in order to achieve a desired sound effect. The result for me was I knew Birch has loads of attack to begin with, I wanted my racks to give me more of the shell or "wood" sound, so I went with heavy shells there. On my floors I wanted sustain for days and increased attack, so I went with thin shells on the floors, and the result is demonstrated in the video. I personally feel that I achieved exactly what I sought out for.

    • @crifox16
      @crifox16 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it also makes sense from a tuning point of view. thicker shells activate better at higher tunings and thinner shells have a lower fundamental frequency, which helps in the case of the floor toms. i'm still a bit perplexed about why this isn't the standard in drum manufacturing

    • @AaronHoller
      @AaronHoller  ปีที่แล้ว

      They were probably my demos. 😂🤣😂 it's mainly because they're different kits, woods, series, so people can clearly hear differences between them.

    • @YouTubedrumvids
      @YouTubedrumvids ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! No way, nice, well you definitely composed a theme song cause I researched all the wood types, thickness ect for over a year. It’s definitely on a ton of Sq2 vids, now it seems like it’s being played on some other high end vids, maybe a star, the Phoenix….well done, you’re a drum demo hit maker. Fact not opinion.

    • @AaronHoller
      @AaronHoller  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the finish is a custom burst I created with Sonor that's not available on their SQ2 Configurator. It was a proof in concept that Sonor too can do anything a client would want. Just convey those ideas to your preferred dealer. I personally recommend Erik at CymbalFusion.com; tell him I sent you and I doubt you'll find a better deal out the door.

    • @AaronHoller
      @AaronHoller  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@larrytate1657 The reason I chose Birch was because I was floored by the sound of my first Sonor kit as an artist and that's their SQ1 which is Birch. So I went with Birch again as my SQ2 thinking if I customized some shell thicknesses then I would have the ultimate Birch kit; Listen to this vid and a few others on my channel and you tell me if you disagree? As far as choosing Beech, I'd say go for it! Beech is kind of a Sonor thing, and they've been around since 1875; so they must be doing something right. LOL My road SQ2 will be Beech by the way.
