The library of rock and roll in your head never ceases to amaze me. Singing Dio is rough enough but doing it 1/2 step up from the original? Brutal. Killer as usual.
I fuckin' love this guy, he is awesome and easily my favorite guitar player on TH-cam he always makes the video exciting and I cant wait to watch more!
Goddamnit Phil!! You never cease blowing my mind with that encyclopedic knowledge of every cool song or riff ever freaking written!! When will you ever bring the Drills to Atlanta??
OMG PHIL! I heard this song back in the late 70's on AM radio and loved it right from the start but never knew who did it until now. I often sang fragments of it in my head over the years but was lost...now I am found! HA!
Fretted Americana releases a new Phil X video and you can practically hear 50,000 guitar plays shout "YES!" Not to get all Masters Thesis, but for some of us Phil X and Rob Chapman have replaced the TV stars that the giant corporate entertainment goliaths would rather have us watch. Imagine pitching Phil X to a tv executive - "Well, this guy is nuts and he screams his own name a lot, and he plays guitar and sings, and sometimes he messes up the song and laughs, and he swears. I don't get it, but the kids love it." Would. Not. Fly. But I bought a Gibson Les Paul 50s tribute with P90's because of these videos. If I could have cable TV with all channels OR TH-cam, I'd pick TH-cam. Oh, and Phil, thanks for the "erection" line which made me choke on my coffee.
I would like to add to this with an open letter to Hollywood. Let's begin. Dear Hollywood, I would rather watch anything, I repeat anything, uploaded by PhilX, Rob Chapman, Tim Pierce, Steel Panther, Dave's World Of Fun, Adam The Woo and a select few additional TH-cam hosts than the vast majority of all your productions combined. You have failed miserably in your attempt to attract my attention, or to entertain, inform and enlighten me. Signed, a Los Angeles resident
Thanks again Phil, very entertaining. I always get a good laugh and I am reminded of some great songs when I stop by for a few minutes. I will be checking my inbox for some tickets next time you play in LA ;)... Happy new year!
I was about to write that I'm surprised how tiny this axe sounded... and then he switched to Marshall... and I'm sitting there just trying to imagine words I could use to describe how amazing that tone was.
Very tasty playing in the beginning of the vid. Now I get why you were a studio guy. You obviously have mad skills and spent a lot of time in the woodshed practicing and learning more than just riff and shred. It reminds me of how Roy Clark cut up with the jokes and good playing most of the time but every once in a while he'd get serious and play something that would make everyone set up and recognize how much knowledge and ability he has. For what it's worth ( which admittedly isn't much) you earned my respect with this one.
damn Phil. your videos are the highlight of my month. I can't remember the song I learned last year. how the heck do you do it? you are #1 on my "guys to have a beer with".
Wonderful... I know that this may only serve to fuel Phil's ego, but his talent and humour get him through. As a 'guitarist' I watch his videos and laugh and cry in equal amounts.
+joe99173122 Really getting tired of Canadians coming to America because they can't make their careers successful in Lilleputt Canada. Time for America just to make Canada part of the USA, voluntarily or by force.
Yes!!! Man! Finally, someone got this thAng about P90's and driven marshall! Always knew you know the ways to run the damn show! So happy now! Killer episode! You're the man! :)
Wow. 10:45 blew my mind. This guitar is phenomenal. That marshal is fantastic. Best guitar I've ever heard. Listened to some Phil X Byrdland, SG, Gretsch & Les Paul reviews before this, but this guitar beat them all. Wow.
They also had to string it under the bridge on the first LP's because they didn't get the neck angle right. If you strung it over the bridge on a '52 Paul the strings would be a few miles high over the fretboard from the twelfth fret up.
The guitar player on rock around the clock fell of the stairs shortly after the recording and died. He never lived to know the fame of his awesome guitar solo
Yes, Danny Cedrone did die shortly after he recorded "Rock Around The Clock". He had played the same lead on Haley's "Rock This Joint" a few years earlier. I read he was paid $21 dollars. He really was the original "rock shredder". It's sad that he never got to see how many people he influenced through his playing. He was an immense talent.
with the ac-30 this guitar sounded so small, the amp changing always has quite a huge difference, volume, tone quality/bass and stuff, cause the ac 30 is alot bigger than thattt. sweet video though
Phil you, VH, and jimmy paige are my favorite guitarist. I have always loved your vids and the drills. Have you ever played a hagstrom ultra swede? keep on doin what ya do man. My life has been suckin lately but when i watch you play it brightens my day and i forget about what is stressin me. Hope to see you in new orleans soon.
Don't mind the hating Phil 'cause you're awesomeeeee! I loved the sound of the guitar especially when you played Strangledhold. Oh, I haven't heard Children Of The Sea for a long time, thanks for reminding me, you are great! \m/
That guitar through the Marshal is one of the best sounds I've ever had in my ears ever. Ever.
I like it when Phil plays new songs and it's just him.
Phil X is my hero. I look forward to these videos like no other.
Phil never gets old ! I'm always looking forward to fridays !!
I really dig that clean on this guitar!!
One of the best guitars I have ever heard you play Phil!
"I don't know any jazz. In know one... and I forgot it." - Phil X.
Awesome.
Might be the best sounding guitar on FA ever. That clean sound is amazing. Sitting on edge of seat for some OD.
Thanks for these videos Phil. You've got a lot of talent bud.
The guitarist from Killing Joke plays this guitar. What an incredible instrument.
😢
Phil X is the best thing on TH-cam on Fridays.
Long.. LONG... may it continue... (are you listening Phil?)
Hair standing up on the back of my neck when the Marshall kicks in. It's like they were made for each other.
John Schwarzkopf update: forgot about this video, came across it again, saw my comment, watched the video, same result.
John Schwarzkopf i love when that happens.
Friday entertainment at Its best! Rock on Phil and greetings from Sweden!
Phil X and these videos are a highlight of life.
Awesome job on Children of the Sea, too. One of my fave songs of all time.
The library of rock and roll in your head never ceases to amaze me. Singing Dio is rough enough but doing it 1/2 step up from the original? Brutal. Killer as usual.
I can watch these videos for hours at a time... brilliant talent!
I literally was like "WHAT?!" when he switched to the Marshall...!
Sound exactly like Geordie Walker
@@thirdeyes9993 it's why I'm here

Every week i see your jam sessions and it inspires me to pick up my guitar and Rock! Thanks Phil X, you are CHINGON!!!
What a beautiful and well sounding Guitar..
OMG PHIL!
I heard this song back in the late 70's on AM radio and loved it right from the start but never knew who did it until now. I often sang fragments of it in my head over the years but was lost...now I am found! HA!
HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE PHIL X.....THIS IS ONE OF HIS BEST VIDS.
This guy is surely awesome fuckin musician and demonstrator.

Faking through Rock Around the Clock and it sounding good. Well done. And that Marshal sound was entrancing. Something like that.
Uau, não conhecia essa guitarra, bela guitarra e que belo som.
Every guitar looks cool strapped to the boy X.
Very cool! Long live Phil X & the Drills!
This guitar probably has one of the best cleans I've heard to date from FrettedAmericana god damnnnnnnn
that old les paul trapeze bridge/tailpiece looks awesome. sound is unbelievable. it's the p90 growl at its best.
Sounds AWESOME!!!
That guitar sounds GOOD!
Phil's always FUN!
Love the tone of both pickups. :D
もう何回、何百回この動画も観てるけど、フィルはスゲェわ。神やわ。最高‼️
I never knew that guitar could sound so sexy with overdrive but the clean was just even more sexy
Thanks again Phil, very entertaining. I always get a good laugh and I am reminded of some great songs when I stop by for a few minutes. I will be checking my inbox for some tickets next time you play in LA ;)... Happy new year!

Dude as always great video, love the Gibson 295, you are so much fun to watch and listen to man. Come back to the UK soon.
I know it's a jazz box, but that thing sounds amazing with distortion!! Great vid.
Sweet mother lemon. That guitar sounds sweet!
great demonstration of how much the amp is part of your instrument tone...
That was really cool ! Thank you !!
I was about to write that I'm surprised how tiny this axe sounded... and then he switched to Marshall... and I'm sitting there just trying to imagine words I could use to describe how amazing that tone was.

Dude this made my fucking week thanks a lot, Phil and the guys at frettedamericana!
Unbelievable tone!
I was hoping for some Killing Joke.
Geordie Walker is one of the most underrated guitarists. I'd like to see Phil try playing 'the fall of because' or perhaps 'fire dances'.
Love like Blood would be great or Eighties.
i loved your guitar cover of the late Ronnie James Dio black sabbath song children of the sea. great work, brought back many memories. thank you
More ES's!! Yes!!
Friggin amazing bro... Wow hey DUSTIN ... Great song choice bud! And Phil you nailed it man. Killer tone. Cheers
damn Phil. your videos are the highlight of my month. I can't remember the song I learned last year. how the heck do you do it? you are #1 on my "guys to have a beer with".
Another KICK ASS Phil X Friday video! You rock brother! Keep em comin'!
Wonderful... I know that this may only serve to fuel Phil's ego, but his talent and humour get him through. As a 'guitarist' I watch his videos and laugh and cry in equal amounts.

Phil's so good I can hear the drums when theirs not any drums
Jamming sitting down or standing up, you can jam anyway you want, what ever floats your boat or rocks your socks off :))
Nice Stranglehold .Uncle Ted would be proud.
Great guitar sounds almost like a Byrdlander
The JMP always sounds amazing, but it really likes this guitar.
I like your videos!
"Look out! Black! Black!" Awesome.
Omg that sounds amazing.......
P-90's and guitar and Phil X...Yeah!!!
Dang that thing sounds good.
Phil X wins the internet with that Children of the Sea ! :)) AWESOME ! even though the lyrics were slightly wrong.
A-G-D: The holy grail of rock power chord progressions.
Man I miss Phil X fridays. Bring him back Fretted Americana... pretty please!
awesome sheet
No outro jam? Could've kicked some serious ass when ripping some Nugent tunes on that one.
Jamming sitting down is not allowed.
MrDroogii Damn.
Except Robert Fripps. He can shred without standing and hanging guitar low.
Great video!!!!
Brilliant and so entertaining
Wow. 10:45 blew my mind. This guitar is phenomenal. That marshal is fantastic. Best guitar I've ever heard. Listened to some Phil X Byrdland, SG, Gretsch & Les Paul reviews before this, but this guitar beat them all. Wow.
Just...WOW!
7:34 Woah. That was some nice sound.
Hey Phil!
Cool videos bud!
PEACE!
They also had to string it under the bridge on the first LP's because they didn't get the neck angle right. If you strung it over the bridge on a '52 Paul the strings would be a few miles high over the fretboard from the twelfth fret up.
I knew KNEW he was going to play Stranglehold. epic
The Bill Haley bit was brilliant!
would love to have heard Johnny B. Goode as the outro with the whole band. Great tone through the Marshall!
That 295 sounds awesome through the Marshall.
The guitar player on rock around the clock fell of the stairs shortly after the recording and died. He never lived to know the fame of his awesome guitar solo

Any way we can see some Phil X action on a 1964 JB Hutto Montgomery Ward Airliner with the Res-O-Glass body?
Massive sound through the Marshall
that was perfect nugent tone, man phil x would destroy that thing standing up
with the ac-30 this guitar sounded so small, the amp changing always has quite a huge difference, volume, tone quality/bass and stuff, cause the ac 30 is alot bigger than thattt. sweet video though
8:55 "..you can't bend..FLAT!" laughed way too much
Phil you, VH, and jimmy paige are my favorite guitarist. I have always loved your vids and the drills. Have you ever played a hagstrom ultra swede? keep on doin what ya do man. My life has been suckin lately but when i watch you play it brightens my day and i forget about what is stressin me. Hope to see you in new orleans soon.
You Nailed "Stranglehold"
But with that Axe I would expect "Eighties" by Killing Joke.
Don't mind the hating Phil 'cause you're awesomeeeee! I loved the sound of the guitar especially when you played Strangledhold. Oh, I haven't heard Children Of The Sea for a long time, thanks for reminding me, you are great! \m/
Heaven and Hell was such a great album.
Don't cry that it's over. Smile that it happened. Nuff said
