- Hello everyone In today's video we will be discussing the new dlss dll file that has just become available for All Nvidia RTX graphics cards. The new file is located on the tech power up website links will be down below in the link section however in today's video we will be using an application called dlss swapper to upgrade or update the new dlss file for Microsoft flight simulator. You can also use the dlss swapper tool for many other games or simulators but for today we will not be focusing on that only Microsoft flight simulator. First we will go over what the dlss dll file is and whom it will help. We will then go over the download and installation of the dlss swapper tool as well as the download of the new version 3.6 of the Nvidia dlss dll file. We will then use the dlss swapper tool to import the new file and then apply those files to Microsoft flight simulator. Updating a dlss dll file can improve performance and graphics. The level of change that you can expect will be very dependent on your system specs your hardware as well as if you have updated the file in the past and are not using the original file.Please let me know your results down below in the comments section if you have any questions about the tool or anything that we've gone over today please also let me know down below as well. ***************Important Notice for those that cannot import your new dll file.****************The first thing that I would try is to restart the dlss swapper tool If that doesn't work then uninstall the dlss swapper and run the installation EXE for the swapper in administrative mode then open up the swapper in normal mode and see if that will allow you to Import the new dll file. If that still doesn't work then close the swapper tool and reopen in administrative mode and see if that works for you. Also keep in mind anytime there is an update to Microsoft flight simulator you will also need to update your dlss dll file because during the update it will revert back to the original version. Also for those of you that Microsoft flight simulator is not populating in the swapper tool try what I had mentioned above and see if that works for you to get it to populate if not you may have to go the manual route to do so. If you do install the new dll file manually make sure that you change the extension of the current dll file to . BAC this Way when you copy your new file in the folder it does not overwrite the default fileAnd then if you need to revert back to the original you can delete the new file you installed and then change the extension of your backup to dll again.

I suppose it is also possible to update that manually. The file nvngx_dlss.dll should be located in xboxgames\micrsoft flight simulator \content. Once downloaded the new version (3.6) you copy the previous for back up and copy the new one

I just installed this, March 24, 7:00 p.m and it contained version 3.6.

In the brief time I spent checking out the performance gains from 3.5.1 (what I had been using the last few weeks) to 3.6 I'm impressed. It looks like I'll be able to bump up a couple graphics settings and have the same or better frame rate. Thank you so much!

Just as an FYI, when MSFS updates, it resets back to the original DLSS version. I swapped my DLSS a month or more ago and when I checked today it was the default version. SO checking DLSS swapper should be something we should be doing on a regular basis.

This upgrade, along with using dlssg-to-fsr3, and AutoFPS is groundbreaking in terms of increasing MSFS performance! I can now go to any huge airport, using Fenix or PMDG, FSLTL traffic, clouds everywhere, and my frames never drop below my target of 60 fps. Total game-changer even using 4k display with high-end graphic settings. Unbelievable! Thank you so much for sharing these tweaks!

Sweeeeet! I'm running TAA with TLOD and OLOD set very high. I've been quite happy 30-35 fps in my test environment. Swapping to DLSS.dll 3.6, I am now getting around 20% boost of fps and not seeing any stutters or loss of smoothness! Thank you for this upgrade. I appreciate your work.

No I haven't. I'm mostly a low and slow guy but some twins and the G1000. Try the 3.6 and see what happens, you can always go back to the original.@@antoniopettini9503

Thx a lot for the great video again! Quick question for you, remember you work also with nvidia inspector and making some changes there, so no need it any more? Because it helps a lot with some freezes and stutters at that time, but after updating the nvidia driver it is back and I don’t know what exactly change in the settings because they looks to changed too. Anyway, thank you for your work to make our flights more realistic!

Excellent! Installed, fired up VR Crystal 2020 4090 rig, very short flight. I indeed seen improvement from up close clarity, smooth, overall performance. I only fly PCVR with my QPro/i913900k/rtx4090 using the official link cable set to 650mbps bitrate. I was already getting very good clarity and smooth performance thanks to your previous recommendation to go to 3.5.1. I haven't noticed any significant improvements going to 3.6.0. Maybe building rooftops have a litle less edge-bleed. This might be more noticeable when I get SU15 next week. Thanks for your vids mate and cheers.

@@2020fsers I hear that improvements are more significant if you use experimental dx12. After su14 I tried it again and with PCVR is still seemed a litle unstable. Using win11 btw. Similar instability with HAGS enabled. I'll try it again when I get su15 next week.

Yes it's now in the swapper .. I don't think there is any new menu tho.

For some reason, on my system, selecting then DLSS rendering does not bring any better performance at all, only makes glass screens blurry...

thanks for the comment .. my system is the same taa and dlss give me the same fps on monitor . in vr i notice a big difference .
Its because youre probably limited by your cpu not the gpu, check the in game fps metering tool to see if it says "limited by mainthread" if so, your cpu is the bottleneck (as with %99 percent of non-vr msfs players)

A question: I am using the DLSS mod (”AMD is better”) you showed us a while ago and it works relatively fine with my 3070.
How does this that you show in this new video imply to me using the above mentioned mod?
Thanks for the comment . I have never shown that fsr mod I feel to many issues with glitches and such and constant updates with the sim . But this should not interfere with that mod . Vs 3.7 dlss dll file is out now and is very good to update to that vs.

I left clicked on msfs,then hit reset,which took it back to 2.4.Then 3.6 showed up in menu,and i swapped it with 2.4.Works great now!

Excellent show as usual, thanks to your suggestions I'm now getting a solid 60 fps. flight sim will not stay at full screen keeps changing back to window in spite of ALT + ENT or saving it in the graphic setting any way to keep it in the full screen . thanks for all the great help you have given us.
Thanks Mike. A lot of people having that windowed issue . I personally run mine in windowed mode anyway because my fps is more stable . I used cap framex to test and In full screen mode my low fps is lower than windowed by about 5 or more fps. But no I'm not sure of a fix for that switching issue.

Super confused, Nvidia doesn't include this with their driver updates? Why? Why do we need to update some backwards way? Or it this a MSFS 2020 issue and not a Nvidia issue? Thanks for the clarification.

I’m confused a bit here. Doing this DLSS swapper also improves TAA? I thought this was meant for DLSS in game.
The dlss dll file is not only for dlss it also affects taa and the graphics. Try it for yourself everyone may have a different experience and it's east enough to revert if you wish.
Unfortunately the swapper didn't work for me as it could not find Microsoft flight simulator game on my PC even when I followed the instructions. Never mind I did it manually and the flight simulator has never performed so well as now. Thanks so much for helping us all to keep up with all the upgrades and best practises. My flights are so great in VR now It gets more immersive every day. Cheers for now 👍

Do I need to be using the Game Ready driver? I have preferred the Studio driver for increased stability but I don't notice any improvement from TAA (which is pretty good).
You can use the studio driver that's what i use . 😉
@@2020fsers Great. I fly all the time in VR - Pimax Crystal. My PC and VR settings all have the resolution at the highest level 3K by 2K. I don't see any advantage to DLSS over TAA. I am satisfied with TAA using AutoLOD. Anyway, I have DLSS and DLSSG both updated.....
May just be me, but when I press the import file button in DLSS Swapper, I first get that warning message. When I click that away no file screen opens up. When I click import nothing happens at all.
EDIT: The only thing that made it seem to work for me is to NOT run DLSS Swapper tool as an administrator.
Okay great so I take it you got it working then it's weird because some people need to use administrative mode to open it some people need to use administrative mode to run the exe file to install it and some need to do a combination of both it's kind of crazy.
Great video and well explained as usual don’t no if it’s just coincidence but since doing all this every time I load the game it’s opening in windowed mode when I change it to full screen and save it no problem until I start game again and have to go through same thing every time

Hello, thank you very much for the video! Can you help solve a problem that I have? When I press Import in the DLSS Swapper tool, nothing happens, no window opens to be able to chose the new version that I have on the desktop. I tried closing the tool and opening again but it is the same. Help if you can please.
Had the same issue - had to run the .exe installer as admin otherwise security went nuts on it…
You wanna then open the installed app but this time not as admin, should be able to import after that. It doesn’t seem to like being run in admin mode.

Is there a need to do these adjustments if you have RTX40 card, I thought it get updated just by updating driver if you are using RTX40.
The driver does not update the msfs file. It's up to msfs to update that file in their program which they haven't from the start of msfs .
Great video and help with settings. i have run into an issue i have failed to find a solution. When i spawn int vr with virtual desktop and vdxr i am seeing double images. What am i missing in settings or is the quest 3 broken. it only happens in msfs
Ohh that seems like a quest issue or virtual desktop.
You can revert the dll file back to default just to make sure it's not that but I doubt it .

Hello and thank you for your clear and precise explanations. I followed all the instructions but MSFS which is the only game installed on my PC does not appear in DLSS Swapper. However, I checked all the boxes in the game library and clicked the refresh button. Do you have an idea ? MSFS is installed from DVD and my card is an RTX 2070 SUPER. Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure why that would happen I also have the store version .. you may need to manually copy the file to the main exe folder . Run a search of the file name on your c drive and it should pull up the folder and file . Then change the file name to .back to save as a backup then copy the new file into that folder . If you need to revert delete the new all file and change the .back of the original to .dll

I have a question please. Recently I was told I should move my MSFS2020 windows app into the XBOX folder. Are ytou in agreement with this? If so how do I complete this without messing up the game? If it isn't real critical I will leave it in the Windows app . Thank you!
It's not critical that you move it but I think you can do that using the Xbox app and it will allow you to move the main directory .

With my RTX 3070 and DLSS is have very unsharp and unreadable intruments. With TAA im quite happy but i have ghosting when panning. Any ideas?

I forgot to ask you about your Nvidea driver version. I'm running game ready v551.52. I see that v551.86 is available in both studio and game ready versions. Have you tried this new version?
No I haven't tried the new version I am still using 546.01 I think studio version. I heard to many bad things about the new drivers so I felt I was gonna wait a bit .

I've been running 551.76 and it has been running well. I also switched to DX12 and I seem to be running better with fewer CTD's

Is it still necesssary to update the nvidia driver? I have 551.76 and has been released a new one 551.86. I know that is better to have the last driver but I don't love that. It is require a lot of additional check (nvidia filter, nvidia panel, msfs graphic panel and so on)
It is not necessary to update the Driver.
Because you are updating the DLL file.
I download the dll 3.6,put it on the desktop,hit refresh,but nothing happens.I open the dll file,and hit import,nothing happens.I downloaded 3.5,and it worked.MSFS is now running 3.5,which is fine because it had like 2.4 in it.But i cant install 3.6.Whgat gives?
Restart the tool or your pc and then reset the dll back to default. Then try and import the new file again .
MSFS is now showing up in my library regardless of the settings...

Not sure what to try. Maybe someone will chime in here that may know of a solution. The other way is to manually copy the file in the main exe folder for the game but make sure to change the name of the current file to .back so it changes the name and saves as a backup and won't get overridden when you copy the new file. Do a search of you c drive for the file name it's the same as what you downloaded for the name and it should pull up the correct folder it's in .

You can do that as well . Make sure to change the name of the original file to .back to keep if you need it .
Thank you for this tutorial.I have a store version of MSFS and it was installed on C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\. This folder does not allow me to swaper the dlss file. Do you know any workaround for this?
If you cannot use the swapper tool then you need to give yourself permission in the windows apps so if you right click on the folder you should be able to give yourself permission. What I would do first is go to your C drive Then click on the Xbox games folder in there you should see a Microsoft flight simulator folder and then you should see a content folder within that. The dll file should also be located there and you should not need to give any permissions to change it there
@@2020fsers I do not have a Xbox games folder on the C drive. MSFS was installed in my system on launch day. At that time the default install folder was C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ and and those files are very protected. Nowadays it is installed at Xbox games folder. To swap the dlss file I first need to change the installation folder to a Xbox games folder that I need to create, but I do not know how to do that and I´m afraid to do mistakes and ruin my sim...
Okay, then the only way I know to do is to give yourself permissues for the windows apps folder. You could also open the Xbox application and go to Microsoft flight simulator and it may allow you to switch the location of the simulator .
@@2020fsersThank you. I´m going to see if I can move the location with the Xbox app. I have already test to change permissions on the windows app folder with no sucess.
VR question: Should this work better with DX12? I tested the latest version in DX11 and honestly the ghosting is still there.. I would say 30% less than the old standard dlss version that Asobo uses. (Wondering why they don't update this?)
I'm not sure which it should work better with but I suggest to try both and use what looks and performs best. I have not a clue why asobo doesn't update this . Speculation is they are still trying to optimize the software with new dll versions but idk if that's true.
@@2020fsers I think they'll wait and use real DLSS 3.5 in the 2024 version. I've been reading that these file swapped are still dlss 2.x without the ai involved in 3.5
I too had no real improvement until I saw a video which said to use DX12 and some minor tweaks in Nvidia control panel, and now I get noticeably clearer and smoother performance in my Crystal (4090).
@@kennethmkirschprofessional267 yes, exactly what I did. Actually the 3.6 version is not working on the 4090. You need to manually update the dll file and use 3.5.10 I think. The other thing that I did was to use the Nvidia inspector and change the forcing scaling ratio to 8.0x . Those 2 things improved cockpit quality A LOT and now I get the Ultra Quality option under the dlss option in the sim options.
@@2020fsers you know what? I was playing around with some OpenXR toolkit options and now (I don't know if the dlss mod is related or not) with TURBO MODE I get amazing fluid performance. Maybe you should try it.

when i when to the library for the DLSS Swapper, 3.6 was there.

Never could get MS2020 to show, it is not a part of ANY of those directories being purchased through the microsoft online store.
Ok try and run the swapper in admin mode .. if not you may need to manually copy the file to the main folder where the exe file is located. Make sure to change the name of the current file to .back so the new file won't override the current 1 so you have that as a backup.
@@2020fsers Yeah I'm in the same boat. Store version and it does not show, even when run as admin. Will try this manually.
I think is has something to do with permissions. You may need to give permission to your app folder. BUT manual works as well .
can someone please show me how to use DLSS swapper with my MSFS that is installed on a standalone HDD and not on the C drive? it is a microsoft install I got directly from microsoft so I was able to install it onto its own HDD, allow for plenty of updating room...DLSS swapper dosnt seem to want to see the .exe for MSFS although it ofcourse sees all my steam games that are compatible... can someone please point me in the right direction? I know it will be simple but I just dont want to break anythnig while Im trying to figure it out. Thankyou in advance 😊
Does 3.6 that's available in DLSS Swapper support frame gen?
Frame gen dll is a different file and I don't think is out yet .
where can we track dlss.dll updates? how do we know when 3.6 is updated?
You can either subscribe to that website That I showed everyone where you can download it from. I know that it is now current in the swaper tool. That is the other location where you'll be able to see if there's an update is in the tool itself.

When i click in import appears a window with this message :

Placing a malicious dll into a game is as bad as running Linking_park_-_nUmB_mp3.exe that you just downloaded from LimeWire.
Only import dlls from sources you trust.
And finish with a one bottom then says Okay when i click that it returns to the list of DLSS but it isnt includes the new archive
Doesn't sound like you downloaded the correct file for the dll .
You should not get that error
SOLVED !!! Close program and execute once again. Do not run with the installer execute the laucher exe in the carpet was installed
Is there any sort of chance you are able to make a video on how to install Reshade for the Steam version of MSFS 2020?
Unfortunately I don't use any reshading tools I try to remove all of that stuff from my system so I probably wouldn't be a good person to teach that

Okay the only thing I know you could try is to uninstall the swapper tool and Then run the installer exe in administrative mode and see if that works
Some users also said they had to run the application and administrative mode as well but I would do that last

hey buddy there is a new version 3.7.1 but it wont let me import it do i have to delete the other one 3.7.0 the log is telling me that the process can not access the file because it is being used by another process do i have to delete 3.7.0 and then import it?
No you should be able to import it without swaping back .
Ok, you didn't tell me this was a frame gen dll .. that is completely different than the regular dlss dll file that I go over in this video. You cannot use the swapper for frame gen dll files you need to do that manually.

all fine but I cannot import, now i have 3.5.10 but when I click import nothing happens, any idea? installed twice same thing, I have the 3.6 files in my download folder but when I click nothing moves or changes

yeah lots of people had that issue including myself i thought it was just me after i restarted it everything worked fine
I had the same problem.I left clicked on msfs,then hit RESET,which took it back to 2.4,then 3.6 showed up in menu,and i swapped it for 2.4.Works now!

I get a warning replacing dll is dangerous, only replace dll from a source you trust, but when I click ok, I cannot import anymore.

That's strange ok try and do a pc reboot after you have it downloaded the swapper and installed it. You could also try the portable version of the tool . With that version you run the app from a folder and it doesnot get installed . That version may work better
Also if not using the default dll file for msfs then left click over msfs and hit reset to default. Then try and import the new file

Ok try the portable version of the swapper. This will launch the app from a folder instead of it being installed on your system that may work .
Shame that it doesn't work with any of the 20 and 30 series cards, only works on the 40 series cards with new Gen Frame, Unless I hack into my card to get the New Gen software, but risk is not my taste. I don't get why they get DLSS going even that none of the 30 series cards support it FLIP
This absolutely works for all rtx cards and has nothing to do with frame gen that's a different dll file all together.

Close out the application and restart it and it should work.
The other option you could do is download The second file which was the portable zip and run it from a file folder instead of installing it on your system.
Any idea why dlss swapper is not "seeing" DCS World also?
One thing you can try is uninstall the swapper tool and then run the installation EXE File in administrative mode and then open the Swapper and normal mode
@@2020fsers The dlss swapper is portable... so you don't need to uninstall it. You can start it as admin if you want but the result is the same.
However... the "nvngx_dlss.dll" is actually very easy to find in the bin and bin-mt folders from DCS World which everyone I think knows.
what if you just copy and replace? why is this application needed?
The application is not needed I just feel it's easier to use the application than to try to go through a tutorial on showing people how to back up the file and swap the file out but if you know how to do that you can do that as well.
@@2020fsers For me, putting 1 file into a folder is faster. But I don’t think I need a backup. any version is on the site.

I got a warning about swapping my dlss. Now when I press import, nothing happens and no file dropdown.
Try and reboot your pc . If that don't work try the portable version of the swapper that version may work for you .
Also if you are not using the default dll version . Left click on msfs and reset back to default then try to import .

Okay here's a new trick uninstall the swapper tool make sure your dll File is default before you uninstall the tool and then run the installer EXE in administrative mode and then open the swapper tool in normal mode

You shouldn't need to now the files are updated in the tool
You have to double click on the dll file and then import.

Ok you can try 2 things restart the swapper and try again if that doesn't work uninstall the swapper tool and the installer again but run it in admin mode when installing then anlftwr installed open as normal not in admin mode .

I have a 3080ti and use dx11 and I use dlss quality in the antialiasing setting in thebgraphics menu

This actually doesn't have anything to do with the Nvidia settings this has everything to do with the game itself and Microsoft or aSobo not updating the file.

I do not realy belive that this bring anything to performance. Well not on my PC. Still the same but I have no issues anyway but do not get more frames with newer lib. Only thing realy help is managing cache and run it over Steam and not over microsoft environment. I have better performance experiences over Steam ... I don't know why but it is a fact on my pc :) Also more stable as the microsoft platform.

That happened to me one time. I closed the swapper tool and reopened it and it worked fine.
Me the same, I press import and the sofware for whatever reason crashes lol so I have to open it again and again. I do believe there is a way to install the dlss manualy??
@Daniguz2502 Try and close the tool and reopen it. And that should work if it doesn't. Yes, there is a manual way to do that .
There is some vague directions on the tech spot webpage that I have posted in the description.You need to go To the main EXE folder and the file will be in there..
.The other thing you could try instead of downloading the EXE installation folder for the swapper. You can download the one underneath of it which is a portable file and then you won't be installing it on your pc. You will just open the folder and click on the application to run it. Maybe that will work better on your p. C.
