    Hey Stephen! I thought you addressed this question very well. Personally, I haven't always wanted to be a dentist. I thought I wanted to pursue physical therapy, but then switched to physician assistant. However, it was through shadowing and being exposed to these fields that confirmed my desire of pursuing dentistry (almost like process of elimination). What you're doing in making your videos is definitely supplying one more exposure for pre-dents to see what the dental field encompasses and if they could see themselves doing it. I'd say to the pre-dents out there to not be scared to ask questions and explore other fields that peak your interest. You'll at the very least have an appreciation for what other fields do and learn something new! :)

      This is awesome, Helen, and I'm super happy I'm finally seeing this comment!! Thank you for your perspective and I look forward to hearing your thoughts about school once you start! I hope I am genuinely helping students that has certainly become my #1 goal! Thanks again for the comment and support. I hope your break is going well!

    It’s interesting because I’ve had the opposite reaction to your videos and Dr. Meyerson’s videos. Both of you have taken my initial passion to pursue dentistry and brought it to the next level. Thank you for that.

      That is amazing to hear! The content impacts everyone differently which is exactly how TH-cam has impacted my own life. My objective these days is to be as realistic and honest as humanly possible. I want you all to understand the ins and outs of dental school so that you can make the right choice for YOU. Thank you for the comment, Andres. I truly appreciate your support!!

    As an artist with an artist turned dentist dad , I always asked him why he “gave up” on art . Many years later now looking back , I’m learning dentistry is a kind of art ! That realization plus watching your incredible journey has definitely made the decision to be a dentist much more clear ! Please keep making videos ! So many people love seeing them :)

    Another great video man!
    I’m a D1 rn, I do love the actual dentistry we do in sim lab, and I cant say anything bad about my school.
    The biggest challenge I’m having right now is feeling that I’m missing out on life in my twenties. I went from a very fun undergrad school, and was forced to leave for dental school while most of my friends stayed.
    I know I’m making an investment for my future, but it still hurts seeing them make money, have free time and just more enjoyable life experience.
    What I’m saying is, if anyone here is applying to dental, just understand/research how strenuous those 4 years will be. The outcome of a life as a dentist sounds fantastic, but the road is long and if your aren’t truly up for it, it may not be for you and that is OK!
    Don’t feel forced into it

      Let me add to this, that “fun undergrad” was the university of tampa, ever been?

    • @stephenraydentist
      @stephenraydentist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LMAO have I ever been?? I started my college experience at Tampa and played lacrosse there for a year!! I was absolutely shocked to see your comment and not expecting for the school to be Tampa! That is amazing! And yes I completely understand this feeling! Give it some more time, though. What you will find soon is that most who are already working do not by any means love their job and you will realize that your earning potential out of school will be likely double what most of your friends are making (not a guarantee of course). But you're right! It really is something to research and understand before you commit!

    Pre-dents need to shadow a dental student, not a dentist. The dentist has already “made it.” However, I don’t think pre-dents would be allowed into sim lab, let alone clinic. Your über honest videos should give pre-dents a no-holds-barred reality check of what to expect in dental school. I couldn’t stand a 2-grade drop in GPA. Since high school, I made “As.” In dental school I was down to making “Ds.” The constant mistakes, accidents & low grades took a toll on my psyche & confidence.

      I agree completely! I had no idea what to expect out of dental school before I started but I do think there are many of my colleagues on TH-cam who are now doing their best to display the reality of dental school. Watching a really good vlog is kind of like shadowing a dental student in a sense. I would love to show pre-dental students around. Of course, as you know, there are a lot of situations in school where it is just hard to give someone a tour because so much is happening and there is so much chaos.
