She's one of the few actors/actresses period who had great chemistry with DDL. Just about everyone else whose had the honour has fucking blown it each time (Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio to name a few....just awful).
It guts me that she's going to lose this Oscar, because she's not going to beat Hathaway (and Hathaway deserves it) but this is a performance that's going to live on for decades.
I think that she could have EASILY won that year if Spielberg would have just given her another great scene or two to do in the movie -- easily. We're talking Mary Todd Lincoln here. It's not like there's a dearth of material on her that could have been developed for the film. Instead, he lavished most of the screen time (and I guess, kind of understandably so) on Day-Lewis. I thought that Spielberg even allowed Tommy Lee Jones to shine a little more than Field. He should have had the foresight to have given her just a little bit more to do.
Sally Field did a great job as Mary Todd Lincoln. Just like Natalie Portman did a great job as Jackie Kennedy.
Great movie and Sally's performance is outstanding!! She and Daniel Day-Lewis WERE the Lincolns!!
can't wait to see the movie. love sally field, love daniel day lewis. love steven spielberg, this movie sounds absolutely perfect.

Sally Field is georgeous. She does not even look her age! Wonderful talent
It was the battle of the century.
She's too pretty to play Mary Todd.
