Really loved the opening and closing stories going on outside the player characters' knowledge again Kelly. It worked in Werewolf Brewery Park and it's great here too. This is classic Kelly storytelling!
Knowing very little of Mage and even less of the Victorian age, this was interesting to see. I am intrigued and will look forward to see the next episode and to more Mage specific hijinks.
@@DorkTales Hitting someone so hard you hurt yourself....little more than a hijinks lol. but interesting turn of events and a reminder to not be flippant with your casting.
I am sick atm so I binged this on Twitch. Absolutely loved it. The fact that they say history will be marginal and then it still comes out so nicely is amazing. Also kudos for Jen as/ Josephine for waxing Latin on the magic. You'd expect nothing else from a Hermetic.
Thanks Luke! We wanted to not be weighed down by history. Hell, I've already violated the Mage chronology in a very, very interesting way for those who know where to look. But choice may be a feature, not a bug. ;)
it was great to see penny dreadful at the beginning! she's one of my favorite WoD characters and i have her as this voice of reason in my own current technocracy game. the mage games i've ran for the past two years have emerged exactly from the events you're getting into in this era, with the electrodyne engineers defecting. one of the NPCs is a prototype hitmark who was stuck in a locker for over 100 years and is now adapting to all the changes of modern life, she's had to make a lot of adjustments. this first session was super-intense and obviously had a lot of love and care put into it. great job to both kelly and all of the players!
I hope episode two kept it up for you. And thanks Yui! I'm so glad that you recognized Penny! I was worried that would be lost on a lot of the viewers, but it's so rad to gave Mage fans in the audience! Your game sounds rad!
I wish I knew about this mo the ago so I feel late to the party. From this opening chapter, this is storytelling at its finest. From four separate viewpoints and stories slowly coming together so well done. That is how a story, not a game, should be told. I am deeply hooked and know what I will be binging.
Thank you very much! It's wonderful to hear such kind feedback. I hope you continue to enjoy it and our other stories! Victorian Age is presently on break, but it's returning in early May, so you have much less time to wait than everyone else!
Mage was always the game I wanted to get into but it just seemed so much tougher to start than something like Vampire. I'm so happy to see such a knowledgeable storyteller showing what this game can really be. I'm really enjoying this so far. Thank you!
@@ParadoxicalGhoul my group had a lot of experience with VtM, but we were all new to mage and it always seemed like so much to know. Disciplines with set powers were a lot easier to deal with.
Kelly, you have a wonderful storytelling voice. All the ladies could be seen enjoying your storytelling style as I have. I'll checkout your other games, as well. Thank you for making the sessions available.
Ok, I did what I said and went back and finished watching this episode. It was well worth the watch. I was a bit confused because I don't know the system but the story was wonderful. The men are buttheads but I know that is the age. Looking forward to what this has in store. Off to episode 2. :-)
I'm glad! Now one quick warning: there's a serial killer arc that gets VERY gruesome. It's investigative and there's plenty of warning, but it might be difficult to watch. The players loved it and specifically asked for it to be like that, but I wanted to warn you.
@@DorkTales thanks for the heads up. As I watch things you all do I am remembering something you said previously, you ask your players to trust you so I am doing the same.😊
I'd love to play mage. Never played a tabletop rpg. Mage and vampire the masquerade are my intro. Got Noone to play it with. I'd love to be a hippie druid in mage and a tremyre in VM.
just the one shots from OPP con and Extra life! the big one that we reference was actually a larp that was pre-dorktales and not recorded :) though there will be more technocracy coming to the patreon!
Osteopathy, homeopathy were big as I recall. Also medicine was much more like Chinese medicine than conventional western medicine today. Could be interesting ❤❤❤
What if they fail how would the book then make sense or will you just let them try untill they succed? Cause you spoilered that they survived and succed before the game even happend? Cause if one dies they will probably reroll and make a new chara and then they were more then 4 ladys?
The only "spoiler" is that *one* of us survives. The odds of that are pretty good in a world with life magic. And failure/success can mean different things based on context. It just said we 'bested' the devil....that could mean a lot of things. Besides, Mage is a game about hope and pushing human limits :) Maybe see how the story plays out before being concerned about spoilers.
@@TheAkiliDaniels really never played it but i heard that in mage as you are just a normla human you every scratch could kill thus you would need to invest points in something that makes you less squishy? A magic vest or something was it? I think they said with enough planning you are unbeatable like use teleport to open a whole of daylight in vampire layer and kill all vampires in one strike but one sneak attack and you are dead? I only know dnd and there when you already know in episode one that everybody will survive the campaign the dm cheats that no matter how bad the rolls are and even worse the character act he will keep them alive which kinda invalidates the adventure does it not? Thats why i was concerned. A lot of streams do that which is a deal break for me. If sombody is laying hurt on the ground and the mosnter avoids the downed player and attakcs the tank, why even play, where are the stacks, poker is only fun with money, wothouth its an extremly boring game, so is roleppay games withotuh causility. Which is sadly pretty common youtube streams thus my question?
@@CaitSith87 Fair enough. I'll definitely agree with you that a game without stakes is boring - in mage you're a normal human with a lot of power though, so while you *can* die from normal human-killing things, we have magic that can stave off death, or create shields that can mitigate damage, or teleport away if we're in danger (but there are downsides to doing those things too, called Straits - or Paradox in modern mage - basically reality hits you back if you do really outlandish things). In episode 2 (which we played on Twitch this last weekend and will drop to TH-cam in the next week), you'll see some of that life magic at work. And I'm not sure how familiar you are with Dork Tales games, but we almost always have stakes. Characters have died, or come close to death. I've had characters die in several of Kelly's games over the years XD and he always tries to make it a worthwhile death at the very least (so, dying from a big fight instead of a scratch that got infected). However, mage also rewards player and character creativity, so expect that. If you haven't watched our Episode 0, we do explain a lot of things about mage as well, since we're aware that not everyone is as knowledgeable about it! :)
@@TheAkiliDaniels i did listen to most of it but couldnt wait for it to start so jumped over to it but this has made me cautios but lets see where it leads. ;) good luck and have fun Last question can we see somewhere your stats sheets or would that be spoilers? @@CaitSith87 it’s pretty user friendly - I might share details from Chastity’s sheet eventually, but sometimes there’s merits and flaws and background details on them that you don’t want made public until the time is right. I hope you stick with it, because there are always stakes and always a chance that things will end horribly even if we technically “triumph” in one realm. And the thing with Mage is that reality isn’t set in stone. Paradox (the Straits here) can and has erased characters from reality before. For my part, as a player, I’m here for a story, not necessarily a victory
