Oh my gosh, your video was so helpful to me this morning. I’m putting compression socks on for the first time, and I am morbidly obese. The person at the store really didn’t give me good instructions for a morbidly obese person, so it wasn’t working. Out of desperation, I turned to TH-cam and found your video. Thank you, thank you, thank you. ♥️

@@thesunnyedge -- Doing the same for my dad for a few years now. But now I am doing it for myself because I am an idiot. The 10mg dose of Norvasc heart pressure medication (amlodipine) is the most anyone should ever take in a single day. I did two straight days of taking three pills or 60mg. I could`ve killed myself. I wish I could share a photo to show how my legs from knee to toe were literally twice the normal size. Ouch. Cheers Brooke Folk and TheSunnyEdge.

No special tools or assistance needed. I can do it all by myself. I know that sounds silly but it really hits the ego having to struggle with my compression socks. The only "real difficulty" one might encounter with compression socks is whether said socks are being used prophylactically (i.e. you) or therapeutically like me, who already had severe edema of the feet, ankles, and legs including my effing knees. I suffered an overdose shock of Novarsc heart medication (amlodipine). It required gargantuan strength and strain to wear my socks and it felt like I was wearing leg vices rather than compressors. Adding to my tribulation was that the pharmacist gave me the wrong foot size for the pressure needed, i.e. 20-30 mmHg. They were a size smaller than they should`ve been. It felt like medieval torture socks.
Now that the swelling is reducing gradually, the socks are indeed much easier to put on. Surprisingly, my first instinct was wearing them the way you demonstrate here, meaning, pulling the sock inside-out to the heel. Nobody can get a 20-30 mmHG compression sock the way you would normally wear an everyday dress or sports socks. You might strain your back or get a hernia. Lol

    • @marykok6703
      @marykok6703 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

For 20-30 mmHG, I would recommend buying a sock aid, and if you have larger legs at all, get the larger size aid. Also helpful, is to get a good pair of rubber type gardening gloves that have some texture on the palm. Wearing these helps you in working the socks up your legs, by smoothing them up rather than pulling them.

As a supervisor, I want to thank you for the demonstration and comparison between the brands since the ease of put on / removal is very important for myself and fellow nursing staff since most of us now get changed at work. With that said, would you consider including the putting on / removal process within future compression sock review videos you create, since that may help influence our purchase decision? There is clearly a difference between brands and thanks for considering!

Awesome, thanks for making this video. I ended up in the ER a month or so ago and the doctor told me I should consider them. Hearing you also saying you wear them on long shifts. I always associated these socks with older people. I have VVS (vasovagal syncope) after my open heart surgery, the vagus nerve was damaged but I take that any day over if I had not gone to the ER when my gut told me so. After hearing it from several places and speaking with my rehab therapist, they were surprised I did not have them yet. Got them from a local store where they measured and ordered them. Today was my first day wearing them, well..... now I know how to do it hahahaha. The Internet has all the answers ;-)

It's John Nozum again. I just tried your technique tonight for putting on compression socks. Your technique WORKED!!! Moreover, I am experimenting with regular white socks underneath, mostly to see if it might cut down on the ITCH, ITCH, ITCH, in addition to getting a little more pressure. My socks are rated "Moderate", comparable to 15-20 mmHg when compared to a blood pressure cuff. When I used compression socks last year, I had better luck with them alone than spironolactone and severe elevation (legs up against a corner, sticking up at least 80 degrees) PUT TOGETHER!!! I'm pretty optimistic that I can take a serious bite out of leg / feet edema in rather short order with these socks. My main thing still left to be seen is the hopeful absence of leg itching. As you might know, leg skin tends to be thin and can bleed easily if scratched "too hard" (and doesn't have to be hard to cause bleeding). I am 57 years old at the time of this writing and just had cryoablation done on my heart back on 05/09/2024, due to both A.fib AND A.flutter--almost certain to be stress related. If the socks fail to fully cut the mustard, I guess my next step would be to call a doctor and see about adding a more powerful diuretic drug to the mix, since spironolactone didn't seem to do squat---not even peeing more than normal, like diuretics are supposed to do. If I remember right, I think I was on 25 mg once a day. Didn't seem to do squat.
    Anyway, thank you!
May God's peace be with you--in the name of Jesus!
    From John Nozum

Hello Following DVT, and Pulmonary Embolisms, I was referred to the surgery nurse. I had a doppler test to make sure they were suitable and measured for my socks. I live in England and was prescribed on the NHS (I know I am so lucky to have them) for three pairs of socks and get a new lot every three months. The make is Activa British Standard Pattern Socks Class 2 18-24 mmHg. The nurse showed me the same method of putting them on but also advised me of a Dry Oil spray to make them slide on, it makes them so easy to put on. The oil I use is from Avon Skin So Soft, so should be readily available in America. The oil is also for looking after the skin to keep its soft and prevent it cracking, which may lead to ulcers and varicose veins. I have now been wearing them for 12 years and totally agree with how good they are to the previous tubular grips bandages I was wearing.

    • @thesunnyedge

    • @randomnesspersonified

Wow, I want your area's NHS Trust lol. I was told I'm allowed 2 prescription pairs, every 6 months. Anything else, I have to buy more out of my own pocket! I snagged the heel of one pair on our stairs within the 1st week - they still work with the ladder in the heel and it didn't spread, luckily, so it's contained within my shoes out of sight. I bought 3 extra pairs for things like going on holiday or in case of accidents, like spilling milk or food (I'm clumsy), snagging, whatever unforeseen events - just in case. It cost me about 150 quid for the 3 pairs, and that was with a first order discount. I treat them with kid gloves lol, I can't afford not to! Also I never go round the house without slippers any more, not even to briefly pop downstairs for something and then go back up - the stair incident taught me a valuable lesson, covering these stockings to protect them is essential. Lesson learned. 😆

So, pulling or pushing hard with my fingers can be painful. I spend 8 to 10 hours a day working on a computer. Consequently, I wear 20-30 mmHg stockings, which are more difficult to don than 15-20 mmHg stockings, especially stretching the sock over the heel. Obviously, 30-40 mmHg stockings, which I wear on long plane flights (assuming we ever have those again), are even more difficult. For wearers who are less flexible and/or have less hand strength, even the 15-20 mmHg stockings can be a challenge. The tension required to take off some of my stockings (especially 30-40 mmHg) strains my thumbs if I simply push them down and try to slide the bunched sock over my heel. To avoid the problem, I push it down from the top and pull the top over the heel first, the same way you pull it over the heel and up your calf when donning it. I have learned another trick to make donning stockings easier. To don the left stocking: (1) I pull the stocking over my left hand (the "stocking hand") and up my arm until the tips of my left fingers are inside the toe of the stocking. (2) With my right hand ("free hand") I pull the stocking down my left arm and turn it inside-out, pulling the top over my left hand and past the ends of my left fingers until I expose the inside stocking heel. (3) I grab the exposed heel with my free hand and pull the stocking snug against the ends of my fingers on my left hand. (4) With my free hand, I grab the outside of the stocking at the end of my fingers on my left hand, and the toe of the stocking inside the fold, and slide my left hand out of the stocking until the heel of the sock is at the heel of my left hand and edge of my palm, and my left thumb is outside of the sock. (5) With my right hand, I pull the heel of the sock away from the palm of my left hand to create a small space. (6) I insert my left foot into the space, pulling the heel of the sock with my right hand and sliding my left hand out of the sock as my foot goes in. (7) I then pull on the heel with my right hand and the top of the folded sock with my left hand to snug the sock against my toes. (8) Next, I pull the top of the stocking over my foot and ankle leaving, one fold of material over the ankle. (9) I pull the fold over my heel and ankle and then insert my thumbs inside the sock to pull it up my calf, avoiding the very top of the stocking. Try it. You'll like it!

Very well done! May I add that if you have ingrown toenails to leave a little extra loose over the toes so the socks do not cause painful toenails.

I use this technique for putting on my 30-40 mmHg thigh high compression socks. I find that wearing some dish washing gloves gives me a better grip to pinch and pull up the socks. Or there are special gloves you can purchase from medical supply stores but are more expensive. I'm not very flexible, so I lay on my back in bed with feet up in air when I put them on. Also, I do a lymphatic massage first to help get some of the swelling moving.

I'm leaving hospital now after total knee replacement. The nurse who put on my compression stockings first placed a short plastic bag over my toes, covering the top half of my foot. The scrunched up sock slid easily over the plastic onto foot, and when fully in place, she pulled the plastic bag out of the hole at the top of the sock. I will do this at home!

I have mobility issues and lymphoedema, and have to wear knee length prescribed stockings. I was having terrible trouble putting on and taking off the stockings, even with my son's help - the pain getting the stockings past the swollen ankle area was horrible, due to how tight the stockings are + the swelling. When I told the nurse at my next hospital appointment how we were struggling, she gave us the blue version of a thing called "Ezy-As". If you search the internet for "ezyasabc" you can find the gadget (I think you'd pronounce it, as in, "easy as ABC", they just spell it strangely). I hope this young lady won't mind me putting a couple of youtube video links at the end of this paragraph, to show how this gadget works, to help get stockings on, and also get them off. As I say, I have the blue one and it has been a game changer - very little to no pain now when donning/doffing stockings. I don't work for them or anything like that. I just want to hopefully help someone who may be having the same kind of struggles as I had with their stockings. All the best from the UK.
